Kite, young boy, is sent by his father to watch over a specially created blade for the king as it is sent southwards to the capital. It is a weapon to fight the evil sorceror Azaz, a weapon forged upon the Golden Anvil, which endows the weapon with great strength. Along the way, Kite is forced to rethink the stories of war and the roles of heroes, what they are, and to decide what's truly important. He meets interesting friends, evades Azaz's servants including the otherwordly and terrifying Black Lich, and sees that what's important isn't always to be found abroad, but right at home with family.
