From Can: Specifically Turkish Delight is actually called lokum, first appearing in the West during the 18th century due to a British traveller returning from Ottoman lands. [see different varieties]
From Mary: I am eating some right now with my second graders after enjoying the movie and finishing our book, chapter study.
I am a 2 grade teacher and feed the "magic candy" to my students every year. My first year teaching I hunted the stuff down. It took me a month and a half to find it. I live in a huge metro city and still had trouble finding the stuff. It is sometimes listed under the name "Kora". Check a Middleastern bakery since that is where I finally found it. Best description I can tell you is that it is like a large gum/jelly filled/fruit filled drop or gummi bears with a pedigree-haha. They are jelly filled rubbery candy with confectionist sugar on top. There are different flavors and I have tried them all, at least the ones I have found. Pistachio, Mastic( tases strange like Roses?) fruit filled, lemon, Rose, Mint and those with peanuts. The kids like the multi varitey Rose, lemon, mint ones and agree it is like gummy candy but fancier. Mastic ones were hated by everyone in my class. Very odd flavor. The best I can say is it is like the taste of perfume or flower roses.Boxes cost about 4 dollars a box. Enjoy!
