ahh ok. hee hee then heres mine for you!

Age comes with wisdom
Time with jaded eyes
in a world with misinterpreted freedom
He can sort out the lies.

The copper fox watches with quiet
strides, the world go by
as the villagers riot
and the earth goes ary.

Decades change
seasons stay the same
and the copper fox looks over the range
of this bitter world, that seemed to forget his name.

But I see him in his steadfast love
knowing completly, that one day he'll be a dove.

I'm going to see if somehow I can get all the way through this one without ever using the word "badger."

* For Evening Star *

Jack Lewis knew the times of "What, you too?"
When two souls find one spot to stand upon.
For me the concept's meaningfulness grew
As soon as I was introduced to John.

For both of us knew just the way it feels
To be more helpless than a newborn babe,
When (as it seems to us) God cruelly steals
Your love, and leaves you staring at a grave.

That's far from all the common ground we share,
But that's our most distinctive unity.
Now I wish Number Two for Magister,
While for myself I hope for Number Three.

I won't keep nagging John about romance--
But MY loves don't begrudge me some new dance.

Just to show Inkling that I can vary my style:

To Prince of the West

Far-soaring scholar of The Dancing Lawn,
You savor both of eagle and of mole:
However high the metaphysics reach,
You follow them upon the wings of dawn,
Or dive to chase them down a rabbit-hole,
To make them yield to us all they can teach.
Sometimes you just appeal to common sense,
When someone grows irrationally wild,
Insisting that emotions face the truth;
When Christian morals need a strong defense,
You won't let any unreflecting child
Be injured by the ignorance of youth.
Some who resent you will see in five years
That you spared them unnecessary tears.

*sighs happily* Joseph, this is my favorite thus far...mainly because of the heights your ideas and imagery stretch to. It makes me think of Dante, which is high praise indeed; may we all learn to see with eyes of eagles.

Well, ma merveilleuse Fantine, I'll just have to keep trying to impress you further!

For The Absent LIFEMAIDEN....

At once adult and childish, meek and vain,
Michelle was one to whom no one could be
Indifferent--for everyone could see
Her struggle to make sense of crushing pain.

She had both suffered wrong, and sinned herself;
The latter she repented, while the first,
Hard to forgive, pursued her like a curse,
The whole time she gave tips for others' health.

She wrote to me awhile, and would confide
Some feelings; but the feelings always changed.
She left The Dancing Lawn as if estranged--
I don't know if to seek, or if to hide.

I pray that God will heal her secret sore,
Yet I scarce know just whom I'm praying for.

They're all so lovely, Copperfox! I particularly like the one you wrote for Prince... it's so vivid...

I was thinking about Michelle today. I wondered what ever happened to her and if she might look back upon the time she spent with us and if we left an impression.
Awesome work Joe! Awesome as always!!!!

Wow, Joseph, these are beautiful! I especially like the one for Michelle -- I hope she will read it some day.

"scarcely know who I am praying for"
That was just right.
