Sonnets Here, In-House

For The Young Lady Again

When suffering intolerable stress
That empties out our minds of other thought,
Past comfort is remembered less and less,
Past victories look like they were for naught.

But please do try to penetrate the mist
Which current misery spreads round your brain,
And realize how lengthy is the list
Of _other_ times when this or that harsh pain

Had you depressed; _those_ cases also seemed
Unending and incurable--and yet
God brought you out of them, so that you gleaned
Experience, which you must not forget.

Unhappiness will end; believe my word.
Look for good things which have not yet occurred.

Thank you. And now, as promised....

To Suelo's Mother

You giver of bearhugs and luscious meals,
You lover of the tulips and blue skies,
I know, as you do, just how grand it feels,
To see the love shine from a daughter's eyes.

I'm sure that you recall a Teacher's Day,
When she gave you a pencil; she recalls!
Her heart-shaped Valentine would also play
A role in warming academic halls.

I understand God called you in His time,
Which mortals don't find easy to digest.
May those who love you, feel the Love Divine
Upholding them, since you went sailing west.

No more goodnights; but sunrise will arrive,
When those who miss you now, see you alive.

the one about uncertainity was quite nice.

i understand uncertainty... college just ended and i need to take summer classes but transfering then transferring back is more difficult than i think it should be. and after another year-and-a-half of college? who knows! lol :p

hey...it's beautiful Copperfox, thank you...I can't stop my tears when I read the poem..Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,...

My Mom was the Best ...:)

Time to write another one, and to see how long it takes before the subject of this sonnet notices that it's been written and is about her.....

TO GINNY,
UPON HER DISAPPOINTMENT

The dating game, a sort of contact sport,
May seem to have more fouls than honest wins.
Some players come to wish there were a court--
A court in judge-and-jury sense!--where sins

Of meanness or unfaithfulness would be
Indicted, tried and punished; but with you,
I know revenge is not your specialty--
You simply want some way you won't be blue.

Prevention of new troubles may not look
Like what you need, when harm's already done;
But girl, there IS a future, and the book
I recommended ought to help you run

A safer course through rocky teenage seas,
In quest of love's God-given mysteries.

To Gentle Voice,
in light of her prayer
issue about art college

Oh, niece I cherish in my online tribe,
And whom, one time, I carried on my back,
I wish that I could bring you, in one stride,
To where you would be on the perfect track

To reach the independence you desire!
I truly think I know the way you feel;
For circumstance has trapped you in barbed wire,
And in some ways, your life seems not yet real.

For you it is more difficult, I know,
To follow dreams which others chase with ease.
It feels unfair; yet still you try to grow.
You cannot fly, but you refuse to freeze.

Whatever God will place within your grasp,
Do that much, and you'll get someplace at last.

For The Young Lady,
When She Had A Fever

I've had to pray a lot for you, my sweet!
Sometimes it seems that trouble never quits;
Not only that, it works with opposites.
Thus, while a fever makes us think of heat,

The person with the fever feels a chill!
An illness will fight dirty, so it seems;
And fever visits us with fever-dreams,
Which weaken the afflicted person's will.

But girl, try to remember how you have
Come out of other crises in this year;
I hope to see you winning over fear,
And being able once again to laugh.

So now for prayer again, and more and more;
But praying counts as love, not as a chore.

I'll try to traduce... but there's things I don't really know how to say it in english, but let me try :

somewhere, far from where I am
lives a veteran
who lived so many ''wars''
a man, with a really big heart

and though, he knows so many things about life
in this forum he charmes us with his sonnets
with his art that mingles talent and beauty
we learn that in life you should never have regrets

because no matter how old you are, and who you are
Life still have so many things to show you
lets not believe that happiness belongs to past
'cause we have to live, darling, live to the death. (well... I dont really know how to traduce ''vivre a en mourir'' .... live to the death.. doesnt fits, but I dont find a better traduction right now :( )

:)

Chere Mercia, I could remember just enough of my past French knowledge to have some idea what you were saying even before I scrolled down to your English version. I believe you are the first person ever to write poetry about me in TWO languages!

I know the word "traduce," but "translate" would be more familiar to the English speakers reading this. I thank you very much for your compliments, jeune fille, I shall try to be worthy of them.

Mais de rien, tout le plaisir etait pour moi.

your welcome.

and thanks for the corection, I'll use the word 'translate' instead of 'traduce' next time.

:)
