Dark shadows surrounded her, looming on every side
Huge, twisted, black trees looked menacing in the moonlight
On every side lurk the phantoms of her imagination
Fear grips her heart in its icy hold
At every snap of a twig or rustle of the trees her terror increases
Her heart lurches at every twist in the path, wondering what new terrors await her
Trapped in what is now a mindless terror, she finds it hard to breathe
Suddenly, there is more ahead that just the darkness
A light shines like a beacon of hope to the desolate traveler
She quickens her pace, pressing on towards the light
No longer do the shadows seem so foreboding
No longer does she jump at every sound
The light grows nearer and nearer with every step
The terror begins to loosen its grip on her mind
She is running now, heedless to the branches tearing at her
Nothing matters now except reaching the light
And now she is bursting out of the forest
She is out of the darkness and into the light
All her fear and pain are stripped away
At the end of the path she finds rest

This is a poem I wrote for English class, I'd appreciate comments on it.
