Wouldn't be for me either but Queen Susan's right. He never wanted to hold onto feuds. He just wanted to find people that would love him. And Snape did all he could to help Harry and such. I don't think he deserved to have him name next to Dumbledore's though.

So, in my opinion, yes, he does deserve his name next to Dumbledore's. He may have hated Harry and he may have hated James, and, yes, he only did what Dumbledore wanted for Lily's memory. But he still did it. And that's enough, I think, to warrant such an honour.

I guess... I never really thought of it like that. All I could think about was the fact that he was so maen to Harry and to James just because James saved his life. Then he killed Dumbledore. But I suppose that he could of deserved having his name there. You just have to realise the bravery and skill it took to lie to Voldemort.

Well, you have to remember he killed Dumbledore at Dumbledore's request. In DH we learned that Dumbledore's last words ("Severus, please") weren't really begging Snape to let him live, but to kill him. Dumbledore knew he would die very soon anyway, and he decided that it would benifit the Order, &c. to further prove Snape's, eh, Death Eater-ness by having Snape kill him.

True. But I've only read the last one once not the 3 million times that I've read the others. I must have read the first soooo many times when I'm bored I just grab the first one and read it.

I think, yes. Snape and James were enemies and Snape shouldb't have taken out his hatred for James on Harry. But like QSoN said, Snape was a double agent against Voldemort, which takes a lot of courage.

"And Snape did all he could to help Harry and such."
Loco, Snape did all he could when it was life or death circumstances, but in everyday life, he treated Harry about the same as his aunt and uncle. He gleefully made Harry's life harder than it should have been. As I mentioned, Snape made Harry abhor potions, which probably had an effect on his education. I agree that Harry was right to demand that Snape's picture hang in the Headmaster's office along with all of the previous Headmasters, but to be able to honor him by giving his son his name is quite anoter honor. To think that the only Hogwarts friend he honored with this was Luna...not even Ron or Hermione. MrBob

Harry paid appropriate honor to Snape and Albus. You may not have noticed that Albus Severus Potter is initialed A.S.P. - the resolution of the Slytherin and Gryffindor house feuds. Read the epilogue again and pay close attention to what Harry tells ASP.
This disapproval stems from looking too much on the outside of Snape. Harry is looking with his heart. All those years of emotional response to Snape mean nothing in the light of the knowledge of Snape's choices. Both Dumbledore and Snape chose death rather to betray their true centres. Both learned to do so after horrible mistakes/errors/sins had taught them the value of their losses and the meanness of their persons. You will note that neither Dubledore nor Snape were perfect human beings after their conversions. Harry honors both in their humanness and in their heroicness. The fact their heroism did not appear identical to observers is not material. It appears the same to Harry, who most benefited from each's heroism, and suffered most from each's character flaws. There is a moral here. But I shall let you frame it rather than giving it away. |
