Default Brace Yourselves...

I'm told that the Jim Carrey movie adaptation of "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" made a radical theme change, by making it "not the Grinch's fault" that he was so cold-hearted. Instead, it was the fault of THE WHO'S THEMSELVES... for the tediously-overused reason of "being mean to him because he was different."

If this is indeed what was done, it shows that the disease of book-ruining is not confined to Andrew Adamson. So even with him removed, fresh outrages may still await us in films of the remaining Narnian books. The reason I say this, and the reason I have created this thread, is because a dread suspicion has just hit me.

You know the school bullies at Experiment House in "The Silver Chair"? My dread suspicion is that a movie of SC will do what I was told the Grinch filmmakers did--EXCUSE their evil conduct. I can see it now: Aslan brings Eustace and Jill back to Experiment House....and orders EUSTACE AND JILL TO APOLOGIZE to the bullies for "judging" them, because it isn't the bullies' fault that they became bullies.

It was the evil oil corporations that caused it.

Yikes. They'd better not do that. It would completely ruin the movie (and SC is my favorite book!)

If the do something like that to any of the movies they'll get repeated angry e-mails from me (and others too probably).

But if they mess up Last Battle in any way though I'll go give them a piece of my mind. (Last Battle is my favorite book, and if they change anything in it....)

Honestly, I think that would be very unlikely... but I would be pretty upset if they did that. =/

I sort of doubt SC will be made into a film at all, based on the idea that the VDT movie borrows material from the future books; I think it will be the last one to be made into a film in this cycle. So we don't have to worry about SC.

I am curious to know whether the new movie version of A Christmas Carol due out this year and starring Jim Carey may try to make some point like that of Scrooge's character? It's rather like "The Grinch" in the story ... will it provide some explanation for him?

In the real world today there are certain persons, in certain situations and settings, who DO expect those who are in the right to apologize to those who are in the wrong.
