  • I hope your summer is going well. There is a new contest --Live Like a Narnian-- which I think you would rock.
I hath updated my story with a new chapter; I'm takin some of your suggestions and using them, hope that's okay? :)
I then went to the University of Wales for 3 years, reading Classical Studies at Aberystwyth. After graduating in July 1989, I moved to Rugby where my mother lived and have been a member of Rugby Ward ever since, first in the Northampton Stake, then as part of the new Coventry Stake. Rugby is about 30 miles, to the east or southeast of Birmingham. My guess would be, if you live in Blackheath, you may also be a member of Harborne Ward, or possibly Stourbridge.
I hope you are keeping well. If you are interested, I shall give more information about myself next time.
    All the very best,
    Corin
P.S My message was about 300 characters too long, so have had to send it in two parts!
Thank you for your message. I was only aware of this thread by chance. I have been aware for some time of the fact that there are many Christians using this website, but didn't know whether there were any other Mormons. So, on the day I posted my message, I had earlier posted Mormon or maybe Mormonism in 'search', found this thread, and things have developed from there.
I have been a member of the Church since 28th August 1970 when, at the age of 20, I was baptised and confirmed at Woodsetton chapel, between Dudley and Wolverhampton. From then until September 1986, I was a member of Birmingham 4 Branch in the Birmingham Stake, which became Harborne Ward at the end of 1983, I believe.
Yes, I did find it fairly quickly. The end makes me choke up just reading it without anything else haha. I have read The Idiot. I loved Myshkin (the main character), but horrible things happen to him.
Recently, I've been switching from Harold Pinter's plays to manga, which is also a very weird combination.
Oh, I shamelessly cried at the end, too (and at the end of The Brothers Karamazov. And at the movie Dumbo, but that's neither here nor there) I was sick and reading late at night. And now I'm flipping through my copy to find that part.
ooooh, Crime and Punishment is a good one. It's been awhile since I've read it, but it was excellent. I am so nerdy.

My religion search is slow. (this semester is eating my soul). I've finished 1 Nephi but haven't had time to start on the 2 Nephi, and I've been learning about Catholicism in between (I went to Mass once that that was cool.)
Ha, I'd love to be on Broadway, but alas, I can't sing worth a darn. I would like to write a play, though.
...one of the sons of king Zedekiah escaped and was led to the same land as Lehi's family. His name was Mulek and is mentioned in a couple of places in the book of Mormon as the only surviving son of king Zedekiah. Anyway, that's probably more than you wanted.

So why did you spend most of your teenage years trying to get away from religion? And what brought about a change in you to desire finding something to believe now?
The Book of Mormon timeline is based beginning on 1 Nephi 10: 4 in which Nephi says that the family left Jerusalem 600 years before Christ would come. The city had not yet fallen to Babylon, occurring around 587-588 BC. 1 Nephi 17:4 they had been in the wilderness 8 years, and it was just after that when the command came to Nephi to build a ship. It is estimated about 591 BC, during the time of Jeremiah & Ezekiel. Jeremiah was known to Lehi & his family, while Ezekiel would not have been as he lived among the Babylonian exiles. Zedekiah was king of Judah at the time, and according to Jeremiah 52, after Jerusalem fell, king Zedekiah watched his sons slain, then he was blinded by his captors, and lived the rest of his life in prison. The Book of Mormon does give one little bit of additional information here...
The weird thing is, I've spent most of my teenage years trying to get away from any and all forms of religion. Now I'm 19, I feel like I need to actually stick with something (even if it be Atheism, though I'd rather believe something), so I guess I'm just exploring my options.
I do have a question, though. I'm at the part where the Lord commands Nephi to build a ship. Is there any indication to what year this is happening (especially in relation to the Bible's timeline)?

Yeah, the musical is about two missionaries who get sent to Uganda and are woefully unprepared. (only one has actually read the Book of Mormon). From a techincal standpoint, the music is wonderful (there are some really great harmonies, especially on the first two songs), and the lyrics are pretty clever, but since it's written by the South Park guys, they more often settle for being shocking rather than funny. However, the songs "Hello!" and "Two by Two" are amusing AND clean, if you wanted to try any of it.
I've started on the Book of Mormon. I got by the introduction about Joesph Smith and now I'm nearly halfway through 1 Nephi. It's a bit difficult for me, because I'm not usually the type to read Holy Texts (I don't think I've ever read the Bible all the way through, though I've read most of it over the years.)

I think it's pretty interesting so far, though. I've had a copy of the Book of Mormon kicking around my house for about half a year (picked it up for 5 cents at a library sale) and am just now getting around to it. Although I'll admit that my interest was piqued by the (aboslutely foul) musical of the same name.
    Sorry I missed your birthday
    Thanks!

"Iriadoriel" is an Elvish concoction of mine that means "red ruby [iriador] maiden [el]."
