  • Only just now, a month later, have I seen the astute reply you wrote to me. I should have told you back then: people here are accustomed to a conversation jumping back and forth between the profile pages of the persons involved. When you see a message like this one on YOUR profile page, you click the other person's underlined username and thus go to THAT profile page to write your answer.

Did you ever find "Sophia Renee"? Or look at my novels?
Amen, brother! The stereotype that tough, masculine alpha-male types can't be intelligent or artistic or kind has always really annoyed me. I love Peter! He was always one of my favorites in the Narnia series. I wish more people would realize that most of the manliest men throughout history have exhibited MANY great qualities, not just dumb brute strength or crassness. Whatever happened to the warrior-poet being celebrated?

I strive to contradict those stereotypes. I'm ex-army, I grew up out in the middle of nowhere hunting and backpacking, I ALWAYS carry a gun, I do a lot of manual labor work, and I rarely wear anything besides jeans, hiking boots, a Carhartt jacket, and my .45. And yet I'm also an aspiring filmmaker with an IQ in the 150 range who loves writing both screenplays AND essays, debating morality and ethics, landscape photography, reading libertarian philosophy, and learning about just about anything.

I think we agree on a lot of issues, Copperfox!
One reason for that gender ratio is the fact that, SINCE Lewis' time, the ever-decaying popular culture has increasingly taught young people that rugged manliness CANNOT EXIST unless it is accompanied by rudeness, crudeness and coarseness. Which has robbed characters like Peter Pevensie of the appreciation MALE readers should be feeling for them as role models.

If you can find it in Professor's Writing Club, my narrative poem "The Tale of Sophia Renee" will show you how I've been attempting to revive the ideal of manly men who ARE NOT jerks.
Haha, I've noticed that... I've visited several Narnia fansites and I've noticed that the fanbase does seem to be predominantly female.
