I was just thinking.

We know the first names of all the pevensies, but do we ever find out what Prince Caspian's first name is?

I don't remember ever reading it.

What do you think?

But is Caspian his First name then?

I always assumed it was his last name, but then again, if we look at Queen Elizabeth (Currently England's Queen) her first name comes after her title.

Probably "of Telmar" I mean, what's Queen Elizabeth's last name? Royalty doesn't have last names.

I would presume that Caspian is his first name. As for his last name, it would probably come from the name of his House/Dynasty. Megas Alexandros was of the Argeads (my House), which derived from the name of a mythical ancestor, Argos (I think that he was supposed to be the Argonauts shipbuilder, but he could have been the founding king of the city of Argos). Unless Caspian had someother mythical ancestor, besides his forebear Caspian the Conqueror, I can't see where a surname would derive from. Perhaps, assuming there is a seperate and independent Telmarine language, the word for conqueror, victorious warrior, or saviour (similar to Soter, Bhadur, or Khan) could serve as a surname (name of his royal House). But none is given, at least specifically. So, I geuss we're left to speculate.

See ya on the flipside,

Caspian isn't the only one with no last name. It seems that Rilian and Tirian didn't have last names either, and come to think of it, neither did Miraz or King Frank and Queen Helen.

CS Lewis created such interesting names like Caspian for the rulers that all they needed was that one name alone. :D

That's a good point.

Mrs McCreedy (sp) didn't have a first name either, did she?

Don't think Andrew has a surname, but I don't think it's Kirke, because he's Digory's uncle on his mother's side

She was called Hellen because it's Georgie's mother's name, and it sounded more believable with that name.

They also tried Violet and something else.

Andrew's last name is Ketterley.

Andrew Ketterly, taken from Polly: "Is Mr. Ketterly really mad?"
I think that The Conqueror is the closest we can get to a surname for the line of Caspians. Like Aravis, she uses "Tarkheena" as her last name, but it's her title. It's unlikely that the line of Caspians EVER had surnames, considering the were descended from pirates, and pirates don't often have/use surnames.

In the book, Mrs. Pevensie never had a first name.
In the movie, they used Georgie's mom's name, Helen.
It's a nice touch because not only is it Georgie's name, but it is also the first Queen of Narnia's name.

It wasn't CS Lewis who gave the name, but it was very in keeping with Narnia, and a nice tribute. :)

It seems to me that in Narnia, if you were born there, nobody had first names and that those who were born in England did.

There are different traditions in Narnia, and perhaps the whole last name thing was apart of them.
If you notice, while in Narnia the four Pevensies aren't referred to by their last names by anybody there...they are King Peter, Queen Susan, King Edmund and Queen Lucy.

Interestingly, King Frank wasn't referred to as King Frank until he became the first King of Narnia. He was simply called the Cabby. Also, Frank seems to refer to his wife as "Nellie" though perhaps that could be a nickname from Helen.

This is the first reference to Queen Helen:

"If you please sir," said Queen Helen (for that is what Nellie the cabman's wife now was)...

It seems to be in tradition of Narnia.
Tumnus was only ever Tumnus the Faun.
The beavers were Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, but that is like being called Mr. Human and Mrs. Human - it wasn't their names.

Heyy, LadyEm, long time no see!
And yeah, that's another thing, the animal names. I mean, "Badger" and "Beaver" can hardly be names!

I don't think Caspian has a last name-- or even if he does, they never used it :) he was known as a bunch of different things, like Caspian the 10th and Caspian the Sea-Farer, wasn't he? So he doesn't really have a last name.

Yeah. Even though she wasn't in the book VOTDT a lot, she did become Caspian's wife. So I think she should have at least had a first name.

Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe CS Lewis didn't give Caspian a last name? Meaning, Lewis just refered to him as "Caspian"? He never bothered to make one? It's not important, maybe.
Or he did have one, but Lewis just didn't put it in the books, but it's in his notes?
Also - this should go in the section for the books.
