I just got a private message from a concerned member about this forum. I explained it to this member like this:
The purpose of the forum is to have a place for the discussions that wouldn't fit in the Christianity and Narnia forum. Plus, it should be a very mature conversation area, where people go and post only in a charitable way, thinking not only of themselves, but of others as well. It is my hope that it brings about fruitful discussion and that feelings are not hurt, but that people begin to understand things. Lewis didn't shy away from doing the same thing at Oxford, and many intelligent minds went through there.
The first Socratic Club was formed in the 1940s, at Oxford University, by C. S. Lewis in order to provide "an open forum for the discussion of the intellectual difficulties connected with religion and with Christianity in particular" (The Socratic Digest, No. 1 (1942–43), p. 6).
I hope you understand what I mean.
Paul
