what's disturbing about that?
that was filmed during 1980's and no , i mean NO film maker did a very GREA job in terms of effect during those times.
and actually The effects that they did was pretty good then.
I know it's kinda funny to look and watch that NOW, but if considering it was done in the 80's its not bad after all.
peace.

Actually, I don't think the effects are as disturbing as the totally overboard overacting by both kids. However, the Lion puppet is quite reserved, and puts out a masterful performance. Comparatively. ;)

(Waits to be mobbed by BBC purists)

Please don't hurt me! You can still like it! I'm not saying it's all bad, just some of the acting and effects. (Actually, most of the effects....)

Are we to believe that the lion is not a stuff animal that can be found in a Child's room?

NOTE: I tried to change the headline before anyone could reply but it didn't let me. I have a feeling that the forum won't let me live this one down

Does it being the 1980's explain the horrible overacting?

IT is a Stuff animal, it is a puppet, but that's all they can come up with. That time, seeing a lion talking or flying, is magnificent, and the effects, is great, BEFORE.
What others were talking is comapring to the effects now...
you will see, the EFFECTS in the PRESENT will be cheaper twenty years from now..
get me??
anyways.. no fight people, i was trying to point things out.:)

The stuff animal was just for the body. Don't even get me started on the face! It looks as if a first grader made a lion mask from colored paper :p

Glamel, We're just having fun!

horrible overacting??
their acting is good.
besides, let me tell you again, before, there are only FEW ACTING WORKSHOPS
unlike now,
children today are more exposed to serious and more workshops,

I wasn't fighting, I was just pointing things out too... ;) Seriously, I was never mad or anything, just having fun with you.

You do have to admit, that it looks rather silly now. It may have been great back then, but now it looks silly. It's what you just said. So I guess it wouldn't be too far a long shot to call it "disturbing" (Love ya QA48 ;) I'll let you live it down)

I think to really benefit from an acting workshop, one would have to have some real acting talent in the first place. I'm NOT saying that those kids have no talent. I am saying, I'm not sure the workshops of today would change thier acting that much.

I think Lucy bugs me a lot in that version because she's trying to act younger than she is, and they cast her too old. Perhaps it would be better taken as a stage play, where acting is supposed to be bigger than in movies.

But I'm not knocking the movie. I liked it a whole lot when it was the only one I had when I was younger. But I do think the acting is more stage playish than movieish.

Cos it wasnt cast by Pippa Hall... Or directed by Andrew Adamson or starred by Skandar Keynes, william Moseley, Anna Popplewell, or Georgie Hanley, Dawn French, Liam Neeson..etc. and it wasnt filmed in NZ or produced by Walden Media.
Sigh, the BBC version might as well have been filmed during the apocalypse.
But Peter was awesome in the BBC version..he just looks too young. And, yes, I am only saying this because he was awesomly handsome. :D
