I saw the poll asking which book was your favourite, so i made one just the opposite! heh. B)

I honestly don't dislike ANY of the books. I just voted so that my second favorite book (Horse and his Boy) wouldn't have that dreadfully huge percentage on it! The only reason I voted for Voyage was because I remember that after reading it I felt really depressed, because two more Pevensies were banned from Narnia, and Caspian didn't get to see the end of the world, and Reepicheep (arguably the most loved character in the whole series) dissapeared. But I still liked it.

I picked Prince Caspian just because it's a little slower than some of the other books, but it was a really tough decision for me.

Augh! you've got me pulling my hair out here trying to decide which book i like least! Every one that I think of, I think, "Well this part of it wasn't so great..." but then I think, "But this part was awesome!" Sorry, I just can't do it...

i picked the horse and his boy because well... that one just isn't as interesting to me as the others. Not quite the same ya know. I suppose Lewis was trying to give people a taste of the other part of this world that we dont know so much about(Archenland, Calormen[yeah i spelled it wrong]... etc). Probably thought he'd be a nice twist to write a story about that. But I dont know, it just wasn't the same... didn't appeal much to me

It's not my least favourite any longer ( I don't think I have one now) but for a long time The Last Battle was the one. I would read all the others repeatedly except that one. I read it quite young and I guess just didn't want to deal with it - I was raised atheist and it made me uncomfortable. However, my thoughts, feelings and beliefs have developed and grown as I have become independent and I can read it happily with hope and happiness now.

I don't have a least favorite...even the one that I would count last, I couldn't call a LEAST favorite. I love them all!

I would probably have to say TLB, but I would definately NEVER say HAHB!!! I love that one ... culture is my favourite thing to read about - espescially if it's one that doesn't really exsist.

Yep, HAHB rocks, and I think I'd have to say that PC dragged on a bit.
I mean, it had a good plot and good characters, but there were times of
not much happening in the book. Just a bit boring, that's all. ;)

faeriechylde
05-13-2004, 01:54 AM
Yes, Luni, I never thought about it before, but in a way PC seems to be the least memorable of the books, to me anyway.

Gleeleaf
05-13-2004, 01:20 PM
Yeah, sometimes I feel like that too. Maybe it's because I always thought Caspian was a kind of boring character in the first place. Don't get me wrong - I love Caspian just like I love all of Lewis's other characters - but he's very predictable and obidient and almost a little flat.

i don't see how anyone could pick PC as their least favorite. What about that great battle against Miraz? And the appearance of Aslan to Lucy alone? simply cool!!!! B)

You're right... it is cool. I just haven't read it in a while, that's probably my problem
And by the way, welcome. Mind if I call you DOE?
(Just kidding. If you have a prefered abbreviation for your name, please let me know. I just like making things shorter...)

I was gonna put down SC, but that was only because when I was little I got scared by the underground kingdom. But now I realize how much fun Puddleglum is, so I'm not gonna vote.

Lunis
06-08-2004, 11:53 AM
Yeah, that's the problem, there's always SOMETHING one likes about each of the 7 books! ;)

I think we should just call her Eve. That'd be simpler. Welcome, Eve! :D ;) B)

I really dislike "The Last Battle". IMO in that book Lewis carried the Christian allegory a little too far. Why oh why did he have to concoct a Narnian Armegeddon? A depressing book to say the least. And I still can't get over the departure of Susan from the friends of Narnia. If new Narnian books are indeed written (as the rumor goes) then IMO Susan must definitely be dealt with in at least one of them. I want to know what happened to her after her family was killed. Talk about angst! ;)

BTW, my favorite of the books, if anyone wants to know, is "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe". I love the imagery, the realistic portrayal of children, and most of all the phrase, "It's she (the White Witch) who makes it always winter. Always winter but never Christmas - think of that!" :D:D:D

I really need to read LB again--I'm not sure that I have actually read it; I remember starting it, but not much else. I'm reading all the books in order (chronological) and am almost done with PC. By the way, welcome to the site, judyfromkansas! What makes LB so depressing for you, jfk? Oooh!! B) That's an awesome nickname! Do you mind if I call you that?

I voted for MN. For some reason it just doesn't seem as connected to the rest of the series as the other books are. I know that Polly and Digory ARE in other books, but their characters are almost unrecognizable from age, so it's like the main characters aren't carried over into other books like with some of the Chronicles.

i voted for prince caspian. it wasn't as enthralling as many others; i remember getting tired of trumpkin's really long story too.

however, possibly one of my favourite bits in the whole series is in prince caspian:

it's near the end when the old narnians are running around spreading the word and they go to a village and there's a dying woman in a bed. aslan gives her wine from a well to drink and she recovers. she leaves her delapidated house and sees caspian and he runs over and embraces her 'for it was his old nurse'.
she told him all the stories and got sent away for it.

i thought it was a really beautiful moment. it's the only time i remember crying when reading the series.

i'm surprised M.N. has so many votes. i love that one! it's a really well written book.

I voted for the Last Battle. I don't really care if a new Narnia was created, the idea of the old Narnia being destroyed is depressing and heartwrenching. Furthermore, I feel that the fact they say Susan doesn't believe in Narnia anymore sucks, because you never see any reference to it in any of the previous books; and they did not explain to my satisfaction what had happened to her. True, she was a little testy in Prince Caspian, but she was reconciled with Aslan before leaving Narnia. How could she lie to herself so much that she doesn't even believe in Narnia anymore?! I like that book the least if for no other reason than they eliminated a queen of Narnia without ever giving a proper explanation.

Wow! I am really suprised by the results thus far! On NarniaWeb there is a survey of everyone's favorite, and The Horse and His Boy was usually in the lead! Plus, TLB is my absolute favorite, so that's another reason I am suprised by the results.
I voted for The Silver Chair. I have recently been shown some cool insights, but still...it's always kinda bugged me for some reason...don't know why.

I still refuse to vote. I love all the books. I am very surprised by the results as well, because HHB is my favorite! Oh, well.

Well I like them all, but Prince Caspian was the less exciting one. Trumpkin's story was too long. I thought HHB was good, how come most of you don't like it? But none of the books I don't like. Also, PC is when I first found out the Pevensies will all eventually have to leave Narnia.

I really don't think there was a bad book or story in the lot, but since it said "Least favorite" I decided to go with a Horse and His Boy. However when they do the film of it I hope they get the same actresses that played the older Lucy and Susan to do their parts again.

Mya, they added and took out a lot of things in the movie. The book is always different. :D

I'd have to say TVDT because, well, the first time I read it the magician/star's house creeped me out a bit. It's a great book to read now, but it's still my least favorite.

Wow I havn't been on this site for a while, any way, my least favorite is prolly The Silver Chair, but now that I've re-read it again I have a new perspective on it. The first time I read it I couldn't read very well, witch can kind of kill a book if you know where I'm coming from.

I don't like The Last Battle. It's just not very Narnia-ish. It's, for me, kinda sad.

Wow! A surprising number of people hate the Horse and his boy! I love that book. It's different from the rest, and it has a good message. It also gives you a taste of what living as a Narnian would be like, and what the rest of the world is like.

I don't like The Last Battle because it's kind of depressing and sad. It ends happy I guess, but getting there is torture.

"hating" is not the good word. I chose HHB because it's my least favorite, not because i hate it. I still like it, and as you said: it has a good message in it definately. But i think some people just find it too different from the rest of the series (at least, that is why it is my least fave)

And LB is my fave

I can definitely say that I love all the books. I am very surprised about the HHB being the least favorite. it is one of my favorites, and my little sister's favorite. I chose SC because it always grated on my nerves about the Emerald Witch nearly enchanting them all, Thank goodness Puddleglum saved the day. and I strongly disliked the children's chosing of the comforts of Harfang over the signs, they nearly bought it for that stupidity. However, Silver Chair's ending would definitely be my favorite part of the series. Think about it Aslan cared so much about us that he sent a person from his Narnia to set a school in our world straight.
