I absolutely love the extras on the extended dvd's, like the "cameras in middle earth" on each one, and a day in the life of a hobbit. I love seeing the cast as they really are, but in the cameras in middle earth (under the section of filming the movie for each one) in ROTK they show that Viggo literally seriously kissed Billy to make the kiss easy for sean on screen, It's hilarious!

Yeah. You don't really realize how much you are missing until you actually watch the Extended Editions. They are amazing!

I watched those extra DVDs as often as I watched the movies. You appreciate the movies even more after seeing how much effort and time went into creating them. One time last year I had a bad cold and wasn't able to get out of the house so I played every single one of the DVDs...all the extended versions and everything...trust me, that stuff made me forget all about my cold :D

that's a lot of hourse, cause if you watched just the extended movies minus the extras is *adding up in head* 10 hours and 50 minutes! so with the extras that must have been a LONG time, but a good time of course!

I still have em of course :). I LOVE the Argonath bookends esp and the Minas Tirith one. I wish that Sideshow had come out with larger statues of both though, because the details on Minas Tirith are amazing. Can you imagine living in a city like that???

they did such a great job with that too- as far as the extras if I may bring them up again- they said in the thrid movie the did the motion capture and andy with the actors at the same time- it was possibly the first time someone thried to do those two things together...Go pete! lol

Oh I forgot too...in the Two Towers extended DVD set there was that Gollum sketchbook which showed all the different sketches before the special effects people and PJ settled on the final design.

Do you guys remember the animated Hobbit, where Gollum looked like a dark, frog? I thought in the book the Hobbit he was also described as dark and covered with slime. The pale effect though was better in the PJ movies.

yeah I have the hobbit game too and he is dark and more froggish in the game...hmm oh well he looked pretty believable in the movie- possibly moreso than if he was more frog like!!

Actually he didn't. That was a rumour spread around by Dom (sneaky little stinker, isn't he?), and it's popularly circulated throughout LotR stuff. I love the Cameras in Middle-earth too, but I don't get to watch them as often. I'm outnumbered a lot.

Favorite parts of the extended version for me definitely include the scene with the Mouth of Sauron. Some people didn't like that scene or thought his design was stupid, but I got real interested in LOTR collecting after I saw that scene, and my first collectible was the Mouth of Sauron bust. Man, I guess they didn't have any dentists in Mordor.

*Cringes* The MoS, eh?

The extended additions are well worth it, plus all the bonus features you get. I'll never forget after Christopher Lee and Brad Dourif finished filming the final confrontation at Orthanc, Brad Dourif (after killing Saruman) turns to the camera and says, "You should see me with a magnum," LOL.

I actually hated the horrible way Saruman died in the extended version. I jusst didn't think it was fitting for a great wizard, albeit one who turned evil, to end up impaled on some turning wheel. If he just fell off the Orthanc it would have been okay...but that scene was just too gross for me.

I admit I was altogether disappointed with how they ended up making the characters Saruman, Denethor, Gandalf and Faramir. They certainly were nothing like they were in the books. And yes, Saruman's ending in the movie was not at all to my liking. Gandalf, at any rate, was much more merciful and compassionate than simply watching Saruman fall to get impaled, and then turning to his companions suddenly, as if that didn't even happen.
