The HHB is an account of what happened in Narnia while the pevensies were Kings and Queens. That is, before going back to the real world.

yea i know but i think it was weird how Lewis did it...if i was him i wouldn't make the pevensie's go back thru the wardrobe at the end of LWW

Yes, QueenAravis is right. Remember in LWW how the kids became kings and queens, and grew up there before they returned to our world through the wardrobe? During that time, while they were riegning as kings and queens, they had adventures, and HHB is one of them.

No It's more of a prequel in a way dont think of it the way you were. The kids are already in narnia. They dont need to re-enter.

What do they teach them in these schools?
For what it's worth, practically no film ever made has stuck very close to the book, and none would be a very valuable resource if you had to do a book review. Every film adaptation leaves some things out and introduces others - LWW is no worse than most, and better than many.

I understand why you'd be confused. That's one of the problems you run into when you read the books in chronological order instead of published order. Many things won't make sense to you when reading them in the order you're reading them. The Silver Chair actually refers to the Horse and His Boy as a grand old tale back in the Golden Age, but since you won't read that for a few more books, it won't have the same effect.
I think it's alot harder to understand the rules that govern coming and going in Narnia when you don't read them in published order. The purpose of LWW is to introduce you to Narnia. PC establishes the difference in time between the worlds. I can't fathom reading the books chronologically, then finding out 2 books later why they mentioned or did something.

Well I think many of us read the books in a differnt orser but I know which order they should be read in cuz i had an offical guide to narnia and it said Lewis wanted the books to read in this way....
1. MN 2.LWW 3. HaHB 4. PC 5. VoTD 6. SC 7. LB

i don't see why you guys can't read it in chronological order. i should think it makes more sense than the publishing order. and if you remember, you don't run into the problem of when the horse and his boy occurred, because at the start of the book, it says something like 'this is the tale of a time during the Golden Age of Narnia when High King Peter ruled with his brother King Edmund, and sisters Queen Susan and Queen Lucy'...something like that anyway.
so i don't know what you're going on about. and if you read them in publishing order, you get to the silver chair, and they say something about the horse and his boy, and you've got no idea what they're going on about.
just my opinion

Everyone's entitled to read them in whatever order they wish. People who read them chronologically, however, tend to have more questions about continuity than those who read them in published order...and it only makes sense.
I mean, if you read the Magician's Nephew before Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe...you're reading a book that was written nearly 5 years later. It wasn't written to be the first book, so I just don't understand reading it first.
It's very similar to the differences of opinion in star wars. Those who watched episodes 4, 5, and 6 first got a completely different experience out of watching episodes 1, 2, and 3...whereas people who somehow never watched 4, 5, and 6...and started with 1, 2, and 3 never really developed the same hatred of Vader.
You can read the books in whatever order you want to, but I have yet to see an instance of someone reading them in published order not understanding the flow of the books, whereas many who read them in chronological order do have questions.

i guess it depends on which order you read them in first. i first read them in chronological order, and i didn't have any questions about continuity, it all made sense to me. i think i'd probably have more questions reading them in published order.
but like you said, each to their own, and i didn't mean to offend anyone by what i said before. sorry if i did offend anyone.
