Why are they not sports? Is it because you can't play them? lol. j/k's. I'm just wondering why you don't consider them sports.

I think that it would have to be C.D.S. (or for the less informed, Competitive Defence Shooting). It is alot of fun, the only problem is that the Tournaments are held on sundays .

Soccer is a sport, it's just, more of, a Eurpoean one. Tennis and golf were, traditionally, upper crust pastimes that have become sports.

Ice Hockey rules the universe, but Baseball, Basketball and Football rule the "States".

I love sports, movies, and books.

I've never liked baseball or basketball. Football is pretty good, but only when Tom Brady *takes short pause in silent reverence (but not in a blasphemus, breaking the First Commanment way ;))* is playing. He should join the Greenbay Packers...

Hockey is the only sport in which you are allowed to beat the crud out of the other players. Well actually they also let you do that in Boxing.

I have no stake in golf, but my mum is quite attached to tennis, and even sometimes gets me to watch it with her. It's not as intersting to watch as football, basketball, ect. but it certainly is a sport. At least the way the pros play it.

As for soccer, I have to be respectful because my cousin plays, and supports Blackpool big time.

But football is the best! It's amazing to watch, and fun to play when you have a crowd. (That, and I always get to be quarter-back! :) )

I don't like playing football (thats soccer to you people who anme things strangely), but i do like reading, messing about on good old t'internet, it's quite naughty but I love television - you can learn a lot and occassionally be entertained, I also like to go out and play with my friends, but our version of play usually includes pubs and bars and lots of random conversation. I also spend agreat deal of my time looking for another job. but we don't want to talk about that.

well, after catching up on sleep (getting an average of 5 hours a night)...

writing, drawing, movie-making, photography, piano. I also like spending time in the woods, whether I'm doing anything or not. It's such a relaxing place to do anything: write, think, study, doze, especially if it's far away from any place.

I love to play pool, but I don't get to much 'cause I don't have a table, and I never feel like using my money to use the school's tables (especially when the money could go for me getting supper).

...and I just started animating and creating adventure games on the computer with a program called "Game Maker." We'll see how that goes...

The Prince
03-24-2005, 12:01 AM

Hmmmmmmmm... I don't want to rub anyone up the wrong way with this comment (although it probably will), but to say that soccer, tennis and golf aren't very good sports is a bit wrong I think. These sports are played by hundreds of countries all over the world to a high level. Theyre are popular everywhere. Sports like baseball and american football are only played (to my knowledge) in afew countries such as USA, Canada and Japan (to a HIGH level I mean). I think this sort of shows that maybe soccer and all that are better sports as they have more worldwide popularity.

PS Please correct me if I'm wrong about the baseball/american football thing!!!

Dernhelm

...But all the world over,
each nation's the same;
They've simply no notion of playing the game:

They argue with umpires,
they cheer when they've won;
and they practice beforehand which ruins the fun!

The English, the English, the English are best:
so up with the English and down with the rest!

The Prince
03-25-2005, 08:42 AM
I knowthis is going to get heated but mabey the reason only a couple countries play football(american) is because it takes more skill you have wide recievers who sprint downfield almost as fast as olymic sprinters then you got cornerbacks who cover them(some times unless they play for the Detroit Lions) and you got quarter backs who have to make split second decisions about who to throw to etc... not to mention the huge offensive linemen.
BTW what about NFL europe

lsipher

Gee, I thought it was because we Americans just really like to watch people clober each other...
...Plus, were the only nation that really grows them big n' fat enough to do it properly.

Did I mention that NFLers only have, on average, a 2 season career span, go figure.

That always ticked me off when people say that....anyone who thinks it's just a game of tackling and pushing over needs to try and throw a ball down a football field, and have to go EXACTLY where you planned it to. Or you could always try catching a ball with a buch of bulky guys on your tail, waiting to kill you...;)

Too right. Football is football - From this point forth I will not use the word soccer again in this forum! And another thing about american football (we'll call that A football from know on) is the amount of protection they wear. Rugby players wear nothing exept possibly a skull cap and gum shield (and possibly clothes aswell!)

Yeh. I do support Leeds. Just cos they went down means nothing! I am never to be called a fair weather supporter. My sis was devestated cos shes a proper sports fan and player. Its funny tho, I dont know any of the new players names now. The old Leeds team is basically spread throughout the other teams in the premiership!!! With which team does your heart lie (and do not say manchester united. I can't belive there is someone on this forum who does support them!!!! )

PS. Notice how division 1 is noe the Championship. I think they changed it just to make Leeds feel better.

Smog

Well, it depends on the position. Quarter backs, Running backs etc. usually play for twelve years. However, Line-Men (the guys who are 6'4" and 350lbs) play for about two competitive seasons before their knees give out.

(And "A" Football takes ALOT of skill. Most guys will spend five years training for ONE season. Talk about practice)

waterhogboy
03-27-2005, 04:56 PM
But just as much training, skill and preparation are required in most other sports!

I didn't mean to imply that it doesn't take skill...all pro-sports do. I'm sorry if I rubbed anyone the wrong way. I just couldn't resist poking a little fun, that's all.

Well, I hate to disagree with you (actually I like to disagree with you, it makes me feel important :D) but "Line Backers" CANNOT play for five years, period. After two they are forced to stop playing because the damage in their legs is to much.

And my favorite past time is getting into pointless arguements about the competative carreer span of NHL players.

I know that ad you mean WHB, but then if the content of programmes is as it is after the watershed then why shouldn't the ads follow suit?
I think with music videos the only feel the need to show lots of flesh if the song itself is rubbish!

Being with friends and celebrating love and life, a lot of music (listening or making!), talk of God, politics and religion and relationships...things that matter to those who are together, playing cards!
