Do you think unknown actresses should play the roles of Polly Plummer and Jill Pole (two different actresses of course :) ) in The Magician's Nephew, The Silver Chair, and The Last Battle?

I think so. Like in LWW, they used mostly unknown actors and I think it helped keep the magic a bit, and make it a bit more unknown and serious in a way. I mean, what would the movie have been like if Tom Cruise had played Mr. Tumnus, tehehe.

If the casting directors picked already known people, we wouldn't have "met" william, anna, skander, or georgie. New people help the new movies. :)

Yeah I totaly think it should be an unknown actor. Like lets say me!!! I'm pretty much unknown. All I do is stage right now. So, it would work. : )

I agree with you. if I lived anywhere near there I would drop what I was doing and audition. I love acting and I'm pretty good. but yeah I think we could have unknowns be Jill and Polly. but do you realize that the Magicians Nephew would be like impossible to do? there are so many descriptions that I don't think could not be fit by anything in this world. especially the singing.

I defitantly think if they do make them into a movie an ukown shold defitantly play the roles, all the other actors and actresses have been unkowns, expect Anna who wasn't that well know, and they did a great job so i defitantly think that unkowns would do a good job!

that is totally fine with me! i mean anna popplewell, skandar keynes, william mosely, and georgie henlely (sp) were total strangers to me until my friend told me about them! if you had asked me who they were before i saw the movie, then i would have told you to ask google.com! i would not have known who they were! i think it is totally fine that we are having 2 more new people in the movies! :D

Thanks for voting in my poll, peeps!!!
I totally agree with what all of you said.
The only one of the kids (meaning Peter/William, Susan/Anna, Edmund/Skandar, and Lucy/Georgie) who had ever been in a movie before was Anna, but she was so young (the movie was 'The Little Vampire') and she didn't get well known at ALL for it.
So, totally. But I think that maybe they should branch out from just European kids and go for some other kids in the world. Have you noticed that the three major fantasy series in the world right now are European? (Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings) And they ONLY CAST EUROPEANS???
I mean, way to give Americans and Asians and Africans a chance to show their stuff! (Acting abilities, I mean!)

I agree!!!!! They should give us americans a chance!!!!! For Harry Potter, J.K. Rowlings didnt want to have anything to do with americans AND she wont let americans adition for a part in the movie!!!!! Isnt that soooooo mean?!!! I dont think she likes americans very much. Or maybe she does, i dont know.

Don't forget about NZ peeps!
Liem Attiken from Lemony Snicket is American isn't he? He was going to be playing Harry Potter but then JK Rowling said Brittish and I think that is because she wants the characters to stay faith to the books!

Well I can understand them wanting English people, or at least people who sound English for the movies, but I know I personally can turn on accents easily. But people don't seem to realize that is possible. Like a lot of work that would be done in the US is now being moved to places like England and Canada and unless the people are big name stars, they are just going to get those from their country. I think "Pride and Prejudice" is the only movie I have seen that has had English actors and American actors with English accents together.
But yes, to go along with the topic, they should choose unknowns.
ernie
04-20-2006, 01:22 AM
Definetly unknowns! I can't think of any actresses of the right ages that I would want in those roles. In fact I can't think of any the right age. Dakota Fanning? Ewww!
Kate12whisper13

I think young actors and actresses who are already famous can't bring themself to take on a role in a Narnian movie

well..actually i've always sorta seen Polly and Jill as looking very similar I know that the books depict Jill as having dark tresses and Polly something in blonde but I haven't read the books in a while so maybe i'll form some new appinions on how they should look...that said;
well...I think it should deffinatley be some unknown...or if not the maybe some castoff from HARRY POTTER just kidding...
hmn..has anyone seen the girl playing Kitty Pryde in the new X-men movie?
I know she's not brittish as far as we know but she sortta looks like my version of Jill...just a thought...don't everyone rally behind me at once...

Hey, thanks for the other opinions.
I don't think, will_is_my_man1234, that JKR doesn't like americans, but still: People who can (as I can) turn on British accents easily, it doesn't give us fair shots.
So many people think Dakota Fanning should play either Jill or Polly. NO. She's too much of a..well...Uptown Girl.
Good-bye to that Idea.
Thanks again,

04-21-2006, 10:14 PM
yes
i think new actors are usally better (my opion) or actors that haven't really haven't been descovered yet. they aren't cocky or anything yet (and i'm staying Skandar and Will and Anna and Gorgie are going to get cocky and become terrible. they got pure talent).
SusanoftheSouthernSun
04-22-2006, 03:17 AM
Well, you want to be able to see the actors as their characters not just "so and so" who was in a dozen movies that you have already seen. Unknown actresses would be a good idea. As long as they are real like these kids, unlike many of the actresses today.
Kate12whisper13
04-22-2006, 06:11 PM
Unkown actresses who can act and pull of a strong character like Polly and Jill, so maybe a few tv commercials, extras in movies, extras in tv shows etc.
I have blonde/brown hair and I would LOVE to play either Jill or PollY!

I think you'll have to be happy with Aravis (I'm guessing they'll have to cast an Arabic girl-where will they find one?). I think she's the only one who doesn't fit the English type that is so common in the series.
I don't mind if they cast Americans or whatever, but I'd only hire them if they could fake a good British accent. I read about an American actress who was talking in her "British" voice to an actual Brit actor and he was completely fooled. He thought she was a fellow Brit.
well..actually i've always sorta seen Polly and Jill as looking very similar I know that the books depict Jill as having dark tresses and Polly something in blonde.
Um, how can you tell? Have you seen pictures I haven't? In my copies of Narnia (omnibus volume), the pictures are black line art. I honestly don't know if they're blonde or have dark hair, unless it says so. And I didn't really notice if the books say anything about it one way or another.

Unknowns are always so exciting to watch (as long as their good, and judging from Pippa Hall's choices they were ^_^) and also they don't have those labels on them that the media or audiences have put on them. So yes, I think that Jill and Polly should be unknowns.

I deffinetly think that unkown actresses should play as Jill and Polly. I don't want something like "ALISON STONER AS JILL POLE!" I just want "Jill Pole".
If someone already famous played Polly or Jill, you'd think of Jill/Polly as the famous actress other than seeing the actress and thinking of her as Jill/Polly. It's also much more fun being introduced to new actresses other than already seeing them in like 5 million other movies. It's really hard to explain it, but that's how I feel.

I think that the main thing most of us love are the stories of Narnia that CS Lewis wrote and we don't want to see them spoiled. With known actors and actresses it would become more about who is staring in the movie as opposed to the story being at center stage. I like the idea of unknown actors. If they've been in other movies in non-staring roles that's fine because then they have some experience, but I really love the idea of unknown people so that the story isn't diminished.

I totally agree. I hate watching a movie and thinking the whole time about the other character that actor has played. And it bugs me when a company is selling a movie by the actors not the great story. I don't think the Chronicles of Narnia movies need big names to be hits. They're awesome stories on their own.
