I thought Will did a wonderful job as Peter, but I must say that he was WAY to old, atleast according to the book, Peter was only 13 in LWW! I like it better with him being...17? 18? Who knows...

A lot of critics were somewhat unkind to William's performance as Peter (it seemsthat Georgie was about the only one that nearly all of them liked), but one must remember that critics like avante-garde stuff like "Pulp Fiction" or "Brokeback Mountain". William played Peter as he was written, a genuinely nice, caring, true-hearted individual. I particularly liked the way he faced his battle with Fenris... not only was he facing a fight for the first time, but he had to deal with killing a Talking Beast, which by Narnian law was no different from killing a human. It wasn't an easy thing. Also, in the final battle sequence, you could see where the amount of physical training that he did was necessary. Some rather silly critic said that the kids all wound up acting like "action heroes". I didn't see that of the others, but Peter definitely qualified as such. Appropriate, given the warrior-king that he grew into.
One thing notable about Will was how closely the person he was off-screen emulated the person he was on. On the one hand, he was the young man who worked out constantly, trained heavily in armed and unarmed combat, and learned to ride a horse bareback so well that he was on a level with his stunt-double. On the other, he was the affectionate, big-brotherly guy who Georgie could always rely on to look out for her.

Yes! The critics said in one particular review that the only thing that let Narnia down was William's acting! They said it was wooden, but I think he did everything pefectly! His facial expressions were brilliant! :D When he lost Lucy he was like" AHHHHHHH!" ;)

I was overall very satisfied with William's performance as Peter. I think he underwent much character development-from being the very imperfect older brother to the Hing King of Narnia. I think my favourite scene with him was actually the opening scene where you really get to see his intensity, passion, and self-sacrifice to go back into the house and try to rescue Edmund who has gone back for a picture of his father. I was especially moved when he grabs Edmund and falls on top of him as a bomb goes off very nearby, outside their window.
Having said that, I would also like to note that of all the outstanding performances of the Pevensie children, I thought that William's performance as Peter was actually the least outstanding. (Please don't misunderstand me; it wasn't bad, just not as good as the other Pevensie kids, in my humble opinion). It seemed to me that he was just a bit whiny at times; I wouldn't go so far as to call his acting "stiff" or "wooden" as some critics do, but I think it could have been improved. In fact, this may not be entirely his fault; in my mind, it's as much (or more) the fault of the screenwriters and director as William's. I thought they made Peter over-emphasize the fact that they 4 were just kids, and in Peter's mind, not able to fight or save Narnia from the white witch, which led to the delivery of some the lines that I didn't like-for example, in the Beaver's house, when he says, "I think you've made a mistake, we're not heroes." He just sounded unnecessarily whiny and aware of their shortcomings, rather than embracing the inevitable conflict at hand. One other issue that again, was as much (or more) a problem with the director and screenwriter was his apparent lack of reverence for Aslan. Especially when he is talking to Aslan individually, he seems too familiar and not as reverant and overtly respectful as I imagined him to be in the book.
Of course, in my mind, these are minor complaints, and overall, I thought William made an excellent High King Peter; I'm looking forward to his performance in Prince Caspian.

Agreed.
I can't wait until I see him again, fighting King Miraz. It'll be fun! It has to have a decent length, you know, last about at least 10 minutes. That'll also mean more pictures....

Well, to some extent, they all were.
One thing I liked about the way the kids played the parts was the Edmund/Lucy/Peter dynamic: Edmund resented being ordered around by Peter, so he'd try to make himself feel like a man by dumping on poor Lucy. Since Peter's quite protective of Lucy (it's no great surprise that William was always looking out for Georgie), he comes down on Edmund even harder, which makes Ed even angrier and more resentful... it was the proverbial vicious circle. And the conflict between those two was, understandably, the hardest to resolve.

This thread--serious discussion on his acting or a quick link to an interview. Not the thread for casual fan conversation. Talk about that in the Willianite thread.

Aww, I thought William was a blond. :(
So Will and Skandar both love Family Guy? That's funny.
What I love about William's performance in Narnia is that he takes his acting seriously. He really gets into the role of Peter and, like Georgie, his acting was very real because he was taking on responsibilities in his life just like Peter in the film. I love how William was totally blown away by his experience while working on the Narnia movie. And I also think it was cute how he kept hugging little Georgie. Aww...Georgie's so lucky and very smart to be hanging around him so much. :p
William had to do a lot of physical training for the movie, too, so it was hard on him. He had to stay true to his acting and be focused in his training for the battle scene. I think he pulled it off really well.

Faun 3.0 got that quote from the audio commentary with Andrew, Georgie, Anna, William, and Skandar. I can explain it for you, princey.
It was in the scene where Lucy, Susan, and Peter are meeting Aslan and Georgie is talking about how William and Anna are trying to be all serious and sexy and she's just smiling stupidly. It's hilarious! :p
You must listen to the commentary for more quotes!

He did an excellent Job but they all did very well. I mean they were just kids who liked acting and really hadn't had the chance to do it very much...I mean pro...and so all that they did was pure rough talent. I thought they did very well and Will rocked as Peter, though peter was not blond :p
NarniaFanatic
04-23-2006, 06:36 PM
I don't know why I was bothered by this. I guess it was from watching the BBC LLW movie so many times and seeing the pictures from the book.
But I think that Peter should've had dark hair and Edmund should've been blond. :D
Oddish
04-23-2006, 08:27 PM
As far as I know, no physical description was given of either of the Pevensie boys. Susan (adult) was described as having extremely long dark hair, and Lucy (adult) was described as golden-haired. So if anything, Lucy was incorrectly drawn; she should have been the blonde one. Also, Jill was described in "Silver Chair" as having curls (when she was being all friendly with the giants), but she had short straight blond hair like in the books' pictures. In the end, it's just one of those things we have to learn to deal with.
Princey

Yeah, it's weird and it confused me when I was looking at the pictures of LWW. And even though there was no physical description of the two Pevensie boys, I still think that Edmund should've been blond. LOL :p
But, William does look great as a blond. Much better than Skandar if he were to be blond.

You do have a point there about Edmund's hair matching his personality.
And, like I said before, William does look awesome with blond hair! (He should keep it permanently blond) :)

Yes, William is the oldest of three in his family. Daisy's 16 and Ben is 13.
All of the Pevensies have at least one sister in real life. Will is the only one who has a brother. :)
I don't think William was awkward, LadyLasaraleen! :p
His role called for him to be hesitant in accepting his role as high king of Narnia and he had to be insecure because he has this big responsibility of looking after all of his siblings. So, that's probably why he came off as a bit awkward.

I think he was suposed to come off as being awkward coz he was in a strange place and he was older. Plus he had to learn to fight with a broad sward which are really awkward any way.

Exactly! In the book Peter would have been a natural swordman, because of all the magic. In the film there was no magic and there is only so much a 17 yr old can do :( (William should be 19 now).

Yes, but I feel sorry for William. Please stop asking Rogue to ask him who his girlfriend is- give him a LITTLE privacy since he probably doesn't get much, what with people asking really personal questions and stuff at interviews. Leave him alone. And whoever his girlfriend is, if he has one, I hope he's happy with her and she's not just going out with him because he's famous, but because she truly appreciates his amazing personality. Wow, look a me going all mushy and stuff...

It doesn't really matter to me who Will's girlfriend is. I mean, since he's going to be famous and all, I think he'll be going through a LOT of girlfriends before he finds the perfect woman. Or he might be so busy with his career that he won't have time to settle down into a family. Who knows?

not true just cuz you're famous doesn't mean that you have to go through 20 different girl friends just to find the right one. who knows maybe the one he has right now is the "right one". i hope not though..... lol

hmm well i think first he wants to find someone who he can trust.. trust and a strong foundation make the "right one" the "right one" as a 18yr old he is still a little immature.because he might feel one way.. and act on his feelings, not take time to think. Its the same for everyone you don't have to be famous.. i mean i'm quite sure will just wants to be loved.. and he's gonna do crazy things.. know i have no idea what exactly we are talking about.. but i just felt like saying that.. --something i learnt in sex ed.. (hmm strange)

Oh yeahhhh...You know that one scene where Edmund is like half dead because darn ol' JaDIS (I love saying it like that) stabbed him with her broken ... thing...LOL and then everyone else is all crowding around him and then Lucy gives him her medicine thing and then just when Edmund starts choking, you see Peter (Will, of course) trembling. I LOVE THAT. Even I can't do that. Man, he's so good.
NarniaFanatic
04-29-2006, 08:34 PM
Yeah, and that was the only scene where William had to cry. Even Andrew was impressed with Will's performance. He really portrayed the emotions of almost losing his brother really well.
happilyeverrandom
04-29-2006, 09:16 PM
Oh and there's that one part when Peter's holding Lucy's coat and he and Susan thought Lucy was possibly drowning in the water, but then Lucy goes,"Has any of you seen my coat?" then Peter turns around and you can just see the change of emotion on his face. Oh man, I could just feel the sense of relief in his expression. And again...he is SO good. :)

Yes, I agree. Will did do better than Daniel Radcliffe with emotional scenes.
Daniel hardly shed any tears and William was crying and in his role, he wasn't even sure if his brother was dead. So it's kind of funny. :)
But I also agree with moi_18. Dan is improving, too....but this is William's thread and we shouldn't even bring Dan up. Aah!

I am odd I know but…anyway
Lucy_QueenofNarnia
05-02-2006, 11:27 AM
I think I heard somewhere that he would be interested in playing the part of a gangster... like being able to carry a gun and all that jazz.
He also wanted to play Leonardo DiCaprio's role in Romeo and Juliet. I could see him in that part, I really could!!
Ginerva
05-02-2006, 11:30 AM
I think he'd be great in a leading role of some comedy and there he'd play some a bit shy, a bit clumsy but very warm hearted man. Or in a role of some great hero! Yes, that'd be great!
NarniaFanatic
05-03-2006, 01:10 AM
He can really pull off the role of some big hero or a knight in shining armor.
And I agree. He would be an amazing Romeo in Romeo and Juliet.
I don't think he would be great in comedy because I see him as a kind of serious guy, but he would be wonderful in an action/adventure movie or a romance one. :)

William Mosely seems like the sweetest type of guy. I love his big brotherly side especially. Lucky is the sibling that has him as on older brother. He's a wickedly talented actor, aswell. Especially at the scene where it looks like Edmund is dead. I tear up every time I see it. He's also very funny in the DVD commentary.

That's right! I'd love to have him as a big brother. Although he isn't AS funny as Skandar, he is FUNNY and much more gentle and nice! And he is so sweet to others! (Well, not always to Skandar but Anna at least ;) )

I wish I had an older brother like Will... instead I'm stuck with a younger, annoying one... :p Yes, I really like his big brother-protectiveness too. That's one of the reasons I love Peter, both in the books and the movie. He did it very well, because he really does have younger siblings. *sigh* lucky Daisy and Ben...

he played an awesome big brother... gosh i have 2 and yes they're nice to have but sometimes their protectiveness is just a little to protective... but to have some like will (peter) as an older brother would rock.. maybe it would be better to just have 1 not 2... hummm...

About William. He is such a sweet guy and I'm sure he's a great older brother. He treats Georgie like a little sister (which is so cute!). I have one older brother who's 16, but he's in college already and everytime someone at school is harrassing me he gets into protective mode and it's very sweet. My brother, Andrew, reminds me of Peter a lot. (But my brother likes Edmund better. lol). Andrew even saved my life a few times when I was a baby. :)
But it's a long story. So, yeah. He reminds me of Will and Peter.

I think William did an excellent job portraying Peter. Critics were rough on him, calling him a softie...among other things...but thats Peter's character, kindhearted and caring, along with brave and noble. William also matches his off screen character in a lot of ways, like ODDISH said; he's very sweet and big-brotherly, but also can play a war hero. He actually made me cry after Edmund was healed when he gave him a hug...and for me, that is saying something.

First time I saw Narnia movie, I enchanted by Peter Pevensie. I want to have a brother like him! I thought I only adore Peter coz I EVEN DONT KNOW HIS REAL NAME (I dont know who is William Moseley, eventhough I watched his movie  )!!
Then, I watched BBC CoN Prince Caspian n Richard Dempsey played as Peter Pevensie. I dont know why....but I didn't feel to have a brother as THIS PETER!
That's the first time I realized that nobody could be as Peter as WILLIAM MOSELEY (I knew who's Peter cast by opened Narnia site after watch BBC PC :p )!
He'll be a great actor soon (if he'll seriously to increased his acting) coz in LWW, I think Skandar's act still better than him.
But....I dont care! I luv Will!

I expect Skandar probably opened his mouth during an interview, said some stuff that maybe came out wrong or that he didn't mean, and Will took it the wrong way. Hopefully those two'll bury the hatchet by Prince Caspian time, or we might find out the answer to the question about who would win in a fistfight between Will and Skandar!
Regarding Will, though, you really got a sense from all his material that he was a genuinely nice and caring person, full of affection for his co-stars and great regard for the material. After years as a frequent also-ran, he finally landed the part of Peter Pevensie, proof that sometimes, nice guys do finish first.
He really seemed to me to have strong positive relationships with all three of the others: he and Anna were close friends, and worked together very well. He and Skandar seemed to enjoy getting into mischief together. And Georgie took to him like a little sister straightaway. I think it really speaks well for him that when she was feeling overwhelmed or insecure, she knew that she could find him and park herself in his lap, and he'd help her feel better. A lot of grown-ups and older teens, especially guys, just don't have much use for little kids. Will wasn't like that at all.

I agree with you 100%. Gosh, everything you say is so intelligent.
Will's relationship with Georgie was so touching. For her, it was like having an older brother there who will be ready with a hug anytime she's nervous about a scene. That was so cute. (She is a smart girl)

She is incredibly smart...
I remember one of the critics big things about Will was that he was a softie in his role. Well, what's wrong with that? He was adorable and perfect as an older brother-figure!!
happilyeverrandom
05-07-2006, 07:03 PM
Yeah, absolutely perfect. What's wrong with SOFTIES???? Cotton candy is soft and people like 'em! OK, pretty random (just like my screen name, heehee) but still. I don't think anyone could've played that part better.
Lucy_QueenofNarnia
05-07-2006, 08:01 PM
Of course, now Peter can't be anyone else!! I think all of them portrayed them wonderfully--Pippa Hall couldn't have done better.
But Will was great...if anything his sensitive side just made it more believable. I think those are my favorite tidbits in the movie, whenever Peter gets protective-ish (like when he runs after Lucy when she runs to Tumnus's house after it was trashed; the famous scene where he runs to save the girls from the wolves; etc).
Just like the kids in HP, no one can replace these actors now without ppl getting UPSET!! (Just see what happens if you try to recast Will.... I think I'd have to go mug someone)

WIll did a very good job.
He was convincing, and his hair was sad.
He said in teh interview that he has not been offered any other parts in other films....
That is probably good at this point so he can be in PC.
I thought his interview was over-all amusing, but I can see why some people might get offended. (at least he wasn't talking about them!!)
And as for "burying the hatchet" I think it is all in fun that they call each other names. Typical for siblings to do.
I don't think he was too much of a softie. He played the part very well. He acted like an excellent big brother both on and off screen. He was perfect for the part. I'm glad he was chosen.

I think one of my favorite things about his acting styles is the way he can pull off emotions just with expressions on his face. He can look sad and forlorn (train scene), helpless and confused (beaver's dam and in front of the witch's house), brave and protective (too many scenes to name) and many many more.
Plus, who doesnt love that great english accent ;)

I agree! I love his accent, it's cute... And He is great actor! His eyes are so full of emotions and they are so atractive, too. I liked his hairstyle in the end of LWW (in the battle, where his hair were a mess) and in real life. I can't wait untill PC! :)

I think one of my favorite things about his acting styles is the way he can pull off emotions just with expressions on his face. He can look sad and forlorn (train scene), helpless and confused (beaver's dam and in front of the witch's house), brave and protective (too many scenes to name) and many many more.
Plus, who doesnt love that great english accent ;)

i agree with you wholeheartedly. He has a certain "realness" (yes I know that's not a word) that makes you forget he's acting. He really becomes Peter.

Wow when I say the movie I was in shock. Peter is my fav in the book and to finaly see some one good play him in a movie was incredible. Will did the best of all of them other than Tilda witch I think did a great job. But back to Will and to see his face like when he lost Lucy or when Edmond was hurt or whe nthe battle started. Just how much emotion he gave to Peter. He realy looked the part played the part. He even made book be more amazing because he realy was PETER THE HIGH KING!! I think he realy should get to as many films as he can if he shows that kind of emotion in all his roles. But any way if he is reading this I just want to say you are great. :)

He did "become" Peter. I can't envision anyone else playing his part now... and even as I read the books after seeing the movie, I see Will. That is something quite unique for me, because I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter books, and although the movies have been out for years, I still have MY imaginary visions of what the three main kids look like when I read the books. I don't see Daniel, Emma, or Rupert. But I see William.
I don't get why critics were saying he was a softy in his role... whatever :p I thought that was just how Peter should act. Very brotherly and a perfect hero!

You should, it's very interesting. I've heard it is a lot more interesting thread than the Skandarnites, though I've never ventured in there before. Plus the Skandarnites have a whole lot more members, I believe, so join us!!! Right now everyone is kinda depressed though, because some go to school with Will and he is leaving school soon.... *tears*
Anyways, William did do a very good job with Edmund almost dying. It wasn't overdone. His face was screwed up in a perfect sad, scared expression, and it didn't look like he was faking at all.

I've drawn this pic with Will in his armour, Anna in her archery dress, Georgie in her train clothes and Skandar in his train clothes. To be truthful I think Georgie and Skandar came out the best. Anna's face came out weird and Will was pretty okay, but the other two topped it!

I thought this was an interesting find. I'm born on April 27th, same day as William Moseley. In this book of THE SECRET LANGUAGE OF BIRTHDAYS, here's what it says about those born on this day:
Good qualities:
self-sufficient
dedicated
centered
Negative qualities:
withdrawn
overserious
repressed
Magic number : 9
Tarot Card symbol: THE HERMIT
Quote for the 27th: THE TRUE CHURCH IS ONE'S OWN HEART
If anyone wants a REALLY detailed look of William's birthday, I can copy off the two long pages from this book and send it to you.
