I love poems don't you? I think we needed more in the movie. So here we go let's get all those poems out on paper, kind of. I don't care if they're from the book or something you made up, I want to here them.

Here I'll start:

In Western Lands beneath the sun the flowers may rise in spring
the trees may bud the water run the merry finches sing
though there may be tis cloudless night and swaying beeches bare
the Elven stars their jewels a white amid their branching hair

though here at journeys end I lie in darkness buried deep
beyond all towers strong and high beyond all mountains steep
above the shadows rides the sun and stars forever dwell
I will not say the day is done nor bid the stars farewell

I'm not really sure whether it's all right but I think it is, oh well, it's everyone elses turn now

Yellow eyes like the sun,
His work will never be done,
Dagger teeth, razor claws,
It obeys its own laws,
No other can defeat it,
If they try they'll be hit,
With the full rage of Smaug,
The dragon of the morgue.

I did it on the spot, I didn't even think about it. And it's more The Hobbit than LOTR. Seriously, this sucks!!

This is a poem I wrote on here in mostly Quenya, but with some Sindarin elvish mixed in. It's for my sisters, whether they're the ones in my family, or my friends who are like sisters, whom I want to protect from all the bad things in the world, and let them have all the good they deserve. I also included a translation.

Meldanya oselle,
Merin sa haryalyë alassë.
Lelyuvan minyavë,
Ánin anta estelya.
Áva rucë. Auta i lóme
Aurë entuluva.
Meldanya oselle,
Melinyel

Translation:
My dear sister
I wish you joy
I will go first,
Give your trust to me.
Fear not, night is passing,
Day shall come again
My dear sister
I love you

P.S. Now of course, some elvish scholar will probably get on and critic my rhyming, or translation, so if there is one, let me apologize in advance, and say I wrote it pretty quickly.

Out of doubt, out of dark to the day's rising
I came singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
To hope's end I rode and to heart's breaking:
Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red nightfall!

It's not that pleasant but I opened the book and there it was. And Hobbit poetry is fine too I forgot about that.

I am reading The Hobbit now. just started a few days ago. i love it so far. they have just entered Mirkwood well are about to enter Mirkwood

Fifteen birds in five firtrees,
thier feathers were fanned in a fiery breeze!
But, funny little birds, they had no wings!
O what shall we do with the funny little things?
Roast 'em alive, or stew them in a pot;
fry them, boil them and eat them hot?

lol i know that one is a wierd one to think of but i did look in my book just to make sure i was right

(Actually, the first poem that was posted was technically hobbit poetry, since it was composed by Sam. You gotta love that guy!)

Here's one that I made up a tune to:

To the sea!
To the sea! White gulls are crying
The wind is blowing and the white foam is flying
west, west away, the round sun is falling,
Grey ship, Grey ship, do you hear them calling?
The voices of my people, who have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave, the woods that bore me.
For our days are ending, and our years are failing.
I will pass the wide waters, lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the last shore falling.
Sweet are the voices in the lost aisle calling.
In Eressa, in Elvenholme, no man can discover.
Where the leaves die not, land of my people forever!

Wow, come to think of it, that wasn't the happiest poem in the world either! Wow, someone needs to come on and post a nice happy, Sam poem.

P.S. That one was from Legolas,(All the fan girls scream!) who nary lets a bit of song fall from his lips in the movies, but is almost constantly singing in the book. That's holly wood for you. Not that I don't love the movies anyhow. That's the average consumer for you.

The Dark Lord smote ye,
With His mighty axe of pain,
Ye should better run.

It's a haiku! :D
Not too good either, I know.

Hmm, Haiku, eh? (And yes, Haiku, is one of the proper pluralizations for haiku)

The Nazgul:
Terror flies. Dark wings
block out the sun. Run hobbits
or never return.

Wow, so dark! (Yet kind of silly. My haiku are never very professional) How about a happy one:

Sam's love:
"Rosie Cotton, sigh,
She had ribbons in her hair."
He has been faithful.

Sam makes me cry at the end of Return of the King. The whole time he was on the journey, he was in love with Rosie, and he still went on, even though he knew he might never come back.

The nine men of Sauron,
Wearing black hoods of terror,
Fear them, or perish.

Another haiku.

Grey beard, wooden staff,
Peircing eyes, merry laugh,
Friend of man, friend of elves,
He frowns on those who think of themselves,
As fierce in war as he is in love,
His reputation he is proud of,
So speak wizard, speak, speak, speak
Our future is looking horribly bleak.

Guess who that is T_T

They're not good because I did them on the spot.

I know a tune to that "Fifteen Birds song". Strange I know. Actually I know another orc song from the animated RotK. Oh man that one was weird. but I think the song went this way pretty much.

Where there's a whip there is a way (repeat this a lot)
we don't wanna go to war today
but the lord of the nazgul just say nay nay nay
we're gonna march all day all day all day all day
where there's a whip there is a way

it's probably not all right but that's the gist of it. pleasant isn't it?

Gondorgirl

Pippin and Merry in RotK poem

He's always been there
to join me in my pranks
He's never left me

Now he's gone to them
He's gone to help them in war
He might not come back

Alright I give up, If I had more time and patience it would continue. As it is this isn't very good.

The goblins fear it,
The wizards know it,
The orcs depise it,
The elves respect it,
The dark Lord laughts at it,
The dwarves don't believe in it,
But it is real,
As real as the sun shining on your face,
Made of fire,
With weapons of its essence,
It is the horned, the gigantic, it is The Great Beast,
It is the Balrog.

A poem about your favourite guy- the Balrog!! Like?

I noticed this was a contest? Who's winning?

Gondorgirl
03-18-2006, 02:59 PM
it's not actually a contest. otherwise I would be the judge and I don't want to have to go through every page. actually maybe I could judge. maybe whoever posts the most original poems or whoever posts the best poem, maybe both.

I like your Gandalf poem and Thedryadhobbit's Elvish poem. (not just because she's my sister but because it's a nicely written work.)

O! Wanderers in the shadowed land
despair not! for though dark they stand
all woods there be must end at last
and see the open sun go past:
the setting sun, the rising sun,
the day's end, or the day begun.
For east or west all woods must fail...

but then the poem ends because the trees don't like Frodo's singing

this is a song but i think of it as a poem i dont know why lol
WUNDERKIND
oh perilous place
walk backwards toward you
blink disbeliveing eyes chilled to the bone
most visably brave
no appehended bloom
first to take this foot to vigin snow
i am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
i am wunderkind ooooh
i live the envolope pushed far enough to belive this
iam a princess on the way to my throne
destined to serve destined to roam
oh ominous place
speelbound and un-childproffed
my least favorite chill to bear alone
compatriots in place
they'd cring if i told you
our best back pocket secret" our bond full blown
iam a magnet for all kinds of deeper wondermind
i am wunderkind ooooh
i am a pioneer naive enough to belive this
iam a princess on a way to my throne
destined to seek destined to know
most beautiful place
reborn and blown of roof
my view: about face weather, great will be done
iam a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
i am wunderkind oooooooh
i am a groundbreaker naive enough to belive this
iam a princess on a way to my throne
iam a magnet for all knids of deeper wonderment
i am a wunderkind ohhhh
iam joan of arc and smart enought to belive this
iam a princess on a way to my throne
destined to regin destined to roam
destined to reign destined to ...roam

Actually I haven't been on here for a while. Thank you for that, i was wondering what the words to that song are. here's my poem for today:

The road goes ever on and on
OUtfrom the door where it began
Now far head the Road has gone
let others follow it who can
Let them a journey new begin
But I at last with weary feet
will turn towards the lighted inn
my evening-rest and sleep to meet

I liked your poem/song. I love to turn poems into songs, so why not do the reverse more often? ;) I also love the poem that Gondoriannarniangirl posted. Beautiful. I've also liked this one about the Rohan people's battle at Gondor:

Out of doubt, out of darkness,
to the day's rising!
I rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
To hope's end and to heart's breaking
Now for wrath, now for ruin, and a red nightfall!

Kind of pessemistic, but inspiring, nonetheless I think.

(I may be off a little cause I'm doing this from memory)

All that is gold does not glitter
Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not reached by the frost
From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

Cause Bilbo rocks. As does aragorn. I don't think I've written any lord of the rings poetry myself though.

I write it on the spot when I do. no preparation whatsoever.
this is part of one from the book that Gollum sang in the movie. it was originally from Fog on the Barrowdowns (or whatever)

Cold be heart and hand be stone
cold be travellers far from home
they do not know what lies ahead
when sun has faded and moon is dead

all my poems are so pleasant aren't they?
