We, myself and Gray, thought it might be a good idea to have a thread in this section where people can come and get to know their characters better,a practice/social area if you like, so here it is!
Basically you can come in here and introduce your character in a nice relaxed, informal, social atmosphere, chat to your fellow RPers (in character) swap Narnian gossip, tell tales, sing songs, eat food etc. If you haven't joined in the current RP thread that's running this is chance to warm up before jumping in, and if you're already involved with it a good way to get to know more about your companions without messing about with the story too much!

NB this is separate 'thing' from the current running RP, so what happens in here won't affect what's going on in there, that doesn't mean it can be a free for all with lots of killing tho!
Whatever type of creature/race your character is doesn't matter, if you fight for the WW during other threads we'll turn a blind eye to it in here, just come on in and have some fun!
Same rules apply as in other RP threads, stay in character, be nice to each other, keep it clean - this is a family site afterall!

Any questions, queries, suggestions feel free to PM me, I won't mind!

Aslan's How is the ancient place where the stone table once stood in the days of the White Witch, it is a place of deep magic and lore, a place where council of war is held and secret alliances grow, it is also a place to meet and be met.
Friends gather on balmy summer days and cool autumn nights to talk and dance and rejoice in the beautiful land of Narnia.

It is a warm day in early June, to use the English calender, and it is approaching evening. The sky is still blue with slim fingers of pink creeping over the horizon. You can see the sea in the distance glowing under the ligth of the waning sun. From the edge of the forest emerges a young woman.
She walks to the centre of the natural clearing and places the bundle of dead wood she has been carrying onto the floor. Her hair is long, dark and could do with a brush, her face glows in the rays of the setting sun and her eyes are sparkling.

Removing the pack she carries on her shoulder she sits on the ground looking around her to see who will be the first the arrive...

Up the green hills walkes a lone tall figure clad in a cloak of flowing gray. For once she has drawn down her hood, to reveal long dark red hair underneath. It appeares to be the only bit of color upon the woman, as her skin and eyes are as pale and gray as her garb. She smiles to see Rosy already sitting at Aslan's How, and extends a greeting.

"Hello, it's good to see you here."

Rosy gets to her feet and with a small bow greets the newcomer " And it is also good to see you here. I am glad to see that some still remember the tradition of meeting here in the summer months. Please sit and tell me about yourself, I have not seen you in Narnia before, have you travelled far to get here?"

The newcomer smiled, and sat crosslegged on the grass. "Not far, but quite long-I am easily distracted by the beauty of the woods and for at least a day I took leave to speak with a likeminded Willow dryad." again she passed a smile. "I am rather fond of dryads you see, for I was raised among them when I was very young. It is they who gave me my name, Gray. They thought it fitting." the gray-clad woman paused "And what of you? I have wandered the wilds of Narnia many years now and met and remembered many faces, but you I cannot place. Where have you come from, and do you have a tale or two to tell of it?"

rosymole

"I do have some tales to tell that is true, but i shall wait and see if others join us before i tell them, but of myself I will tell you all I can" She lay back on the grass and propped herself up on her elbows and looking out to see she said " My name is Rosy and I have not long been in Narnia, only stepping onto these lands some four weeks agowhen I arrived by ship from Doorn.
I have spent my whole life sailing the oceans around the Lone Islands and beyond. My parents made a living through trade, and now that is what I do, I will buy and sell anything, although it is not profit I seek, unlike some, but knowledge and understanding of the wider world, and after twenty years of hearing tales of Narnia and its folk I thought I should come and see the land for myself thus expand my knowledge and " here she laughs a little " and my understanding! That is my story friend, or a version of it at least.
And you, you seem wordly wise, and to be so free with the wood women! That I am in awe of!"

Suddenly, a wild wind tore through the surrounding trees, tossing leaves violently about. A grand, winged stallion descended onto the green hills, the setting sun reflected gold in its dark flanks. Gracefully alighting from her steed, the rider bowed to the assembled party. One could immediately tell she was of foreign descent, with her black hair flowing behind her. She was shabbily dressed, though the broad sword strapped to her back betrayed her true rank. Rather shyly, the lady approached the two, leading her obliging horse by the reins. "I do not wish to intrude, but is this the legendary Aslan's How?", she spoke in a rich, soft voice. "I have travelled far and wide in search of this place."

Gray cocked a glance the lovely arrival's way. "It is indeed," she said, the ranger extended a hand and a smile to match. "I am called Gray, and what would your name be?"

Ithilien
01-24-2005, 12:57 PM
"I have no name but Thilayn" the stranger replied,"for that is the name of the village from which I came. I was abandoned , in the cold dense of the wood, as a baby with nought but this sword. The villagers there kindly took me in and cared for me as if I were one of their own. I have no parents that I know of; I have come here to seek tales that might delve into the mystery of my past."

rosymole
01-24-2005, 01:37 PM
" You are welcome here friend Thilayn! I am Rosy, a trader from the islands out yonder" here she gestured to the sea, " please sit with us and share a little food. Tell us more of the village from which you take your name, I do not beleive I have heard of it before?"

Ithilien
01-24-2005, 03:35 PM
The new-comer gathered her cloak about her as she settled onto the soft, dewy grass. "Thilayn is a small, humble farming village near the borders of Archenland - perhaps the reason it is unheard of in these parts. The people there were gentle, innocent, and content, until a band of raiders plundered what little possesions we had. Since then, joy and life at Thilayn was completely destroyed. What villagers remained became suspicious of my mysterious descent, thinking that I must have made some contribution to the mounting evils upon the village. Eventually, I left to wander around Narnia, hoping that I, myself, may answer the questions of my childhood friends." A silence ensued during which the two others pondered the lady's sad tale.

GrayCloak
01-25-2005, 12:57 PM
"I am sorry for this,Thilayn," said Gray, her misty eyes showing a deepness unnoticed until now. "There seems to be much sorrow in the world as of late. But come there must be some joy since leaving your home. Have you discovered any of the secrets you set forth to seek?"

Ithilien
01-25-2005, 02:33 PM
Thilayn laughed lightly. "Thank you gor your kindness Gray: it is very welcome. I've seemed to encounter more hostility, rather than empathy; more questions, rather than answers. Perhaps one of you could provide an answer to the many mysteries that plague me."

rosymole
01-25-2005, 02:39 PM
" We will answer your questions as best we can, although I fear my knowledge of Narnia itself will be limited, however I have heard many stories as and maybe able to aid you a little- speak freely friend"

Ithilien
01-25-2005, 03:13 PM
"Again, thank you. Perhaps, I should begin by better introducing myself. As, I said before, I was found in the Andian, a forest near Thilayn, with this sword." At this, the woman reached to her back and unsheathed the blade. The glistening metal shone pink, reflecting the glow of the setting sun. the hilt was simple and unadorned, yet beatifully crafted with intricate carvings of delicate runes. "This, and my foreign look, is all I have that may perhaps guide you."

As they spoke thus, a girl, whose dress had once been white, but has been stained with long travel, stumbled out from the wood. Her hair was long and brown, and her eyes green; she stood almost six feet in hight - she looked, indeed, as if a good meal would do her no harm.

rosymole
01-26-2005, 04:21 PM
"Greetings fair stranger!" CAlled Rosy to the newcomer, " Come and sit with us, the fire shall be lit soon and you must share a meal with us". She got to her feet and surveyed the girl " If you will forgive me, you look weary and could do with a rest?"

Dernhelm
01-27-2005, 02:57 PM
"Thank you for your kind greeting, my lady." the stranger said, coming closer to the ladies, "for I am weary from my long travels, and would not take the rest, nor the food, amiss."
Sitting down slowly on a stone nearby, she told them; "My name is Arethel"

Ithilien
01-27-2005, 04:10 PM
Thilayn stirred the sullen ambers until a little, obstinate flame burst up. "Come, Arethel," she said, smiling warmly, "what quest brings you to Aslan's How?"

Dernhelm
01-27-2005, 07:34 PM
"I come from Archenland in the north, where I lived for many years with my Mother and Father. But nigh nine months ago this day, my Mother fell sick and died, and my Father soon after."

She drew a deap breath and went on: "After their deaths, there was nothing left for me in that land but memories; and those memories were bitter." Creaping closer to the fire she continued, "I took with me nothing but the garments I wear, and a little food, and traveled towards Narnia; and on my journy I thought; What better adventure may I look for, but to go to Aslan's How, and seek what comfort may be found there?"

She looked around at the circle of warm faces around her, and said, almost in a whisper, "But I never dreamed Aslan would send such comfort as this."

Ithilien
01-28-2005, 11:36 PM
"We hope we do offer the comfort that you seek. Indeed, I came here seeking the same." Thilayn paused, then turned to her fellow companions, "Truly, Gray, there does appear to be much sorrow in the world as of late."

rosymole
01-31-2005, 05:04 PM
"Tell me Thilayn" said Rosy pulling a skin of wine from her bag " What sorrow is this that you speak of? I have found nothing but beauty and joy in this land since I arrived?"

Ithilien
02-03-2005, 09:44 PM
"Beauty and joy that seems to have been marred by many sorrows."Thilayn spoke uncertainly. She gathered the faded folds of her riding skirt closer to sheild off the brisk evening wind, crouching nearer to the security of the crackling fire. "Arethel's family...my village...the increasing violence and sickness in the south, near the border of Archenland..." Thilayn suddenly shook her head violently as if trying to ward of the sad thoughts swirling in her memory, "Perhaps there is beauty and joy in these lands - I only fail see it."

Dernhelm
02-04-2005, 06:15 PM
Gazing sadly at Thilayn, Arethel said, "I could almost think there was a curse upon these lands. Or is only that those who seek refuge at the Stone Table are mostly of those who are sorrowful; those who are happy, forget." Shivering, she crept closer to the fire. "They do not need comfort."

Ithilien
02-25-2005, 12:49 PM
Suddenly, a huge gale of wind passed and the fire crackled and withered. The ambers glowed for a few moments more before the travelers were smothered in darkness.

02-25-2005, 01:42 PM
"This is strange business afoot!" exclained Rosy, standing suddenly "what power could possibly dull the light and extinguish our fire?"

Dead Rain

No one answered Rosy. Then after about a quarter of an hour, the copmany could see a dark figure walking up the hill. It seemed as if the figure were comming after them, that the figure was an enemy. Gray fit an arrow to her beautiful bow. But the figure soon became a bit clearer. It spoke: "Do not shoot. I am a friend. I seek only the comfort of warmth. Please, may I sit with you by your fire?" the person said these thing very calmly. and just as Rosy and the others were about to point out that their fire was out, it came ablaze and was warm and all of the company sat down. Rosy and Thilayin and Arethel and Gray sat there in silence, some with their mouths open a bit. After that long silence the new person said, "My name is Arinatha. I have come from the land in Narnia called Caldron Pool. My troubles are of my own. And my grief is heavy upon my back. Pray, what are such beautiful women doing here at such a dreadful time? And so sorrowful are their faces."

02-26-2005, 09:17 AM
" Forgive us Arinatha, we do not mean to greet you unkindly but you startled us a little. we are indeed a little sorrowful for despir hangs in the air of Narnia for some while now. We meet here under the ancient magic of Aslan to discuss what ails this land. But pray, sit with us friend. You look world weary and in need of comfort- that we can provide with our fire and perhaps a little food?"
Rosy bowed low to the new arrival, and sweeping her arm behind her showed Arinatha to a place near the now blazing fire.

After a while, Arethel could hold back her impationce no longer.
"What has brought you here, of all places, from so far as the Caldron Pool? And, forgive me, but when you came you brought a strong wind, and a - strangness. It may be that you are a friend, but why, then, do you bring terror with you?"

Ithilien
02-26-2005, 05:53 PM
Thilayn did not speak but slowly and uneasily withdrew her hand from the hilt of her sword. She folded her hands in her lap but continued to stare at the newcomer with a faint note of distrust and anxiety.

What the companions could see of Arinatha's face did not change. Nor did Arinatha look at anyone. But she only stared at the fire. "I am sorry if I have frightened any of you," she said at last. "That was not my intention. This strangness that you say I brought with me is merely an old curse, that sometimes can be blessing. I will say nothing more of that for now. But business from afar has..." Arinatha stopped. "I once was here, a long time ago, when the Good Lion's How was not covered, but was only a table. Some of you may remember stories from when you were young of a White Witch who ruled this land with a never ending winter. It was before she called herself queen that I first came here, to the Stone Table, it was then called. It has been such a long time since then that I felt a stong need that I should come again to this beloved place." Arinatha waited for the others to understand her. Then, without turning her eyes from the fire, said, "Thilayn, as i believe your name is, you need not worry. Nor do any of you have need to worry of me. I serve the Great Lion. He is my King. I mean no harm. He saved me. By Him, and only Him, am I here today. I travel here from Caldron Pool, where I was... only passing through, I suppose you might say. I met such a strange creature there. so very strange. It seemed not normal for him to be there. But nevertheless, that creature did not meet me. He turned out to....." her voice trailed off. the others offered her food and drink. Arinatha accepted these kindly.

"Come Arinatha," said Rosy "You need not hide things from us- we are all friends here, brought together to this ancient place to share our wisdom and lore. You may speak freely and fear no repercussion. We all have tales that need to be told."

Dead Rain
02-28-2005, 01:14 PM
"My tale," Arinatha replied, "is too long to tell. I once was an enimy of the Good Lion, and not i am His servant. Please, do not ask me to say more. It grieves me already with such horror every day that it would bring too much pain to tell it again. I have had to tell it to the Great Lion, and that is enough." She paused. "But pray do tell your stories. Although mine may be grievous, yours cannot be so sorrowful as your faces protray them as," she said these last sentences with cheerfulness, as to lighten the other's spirits.

Um... firstly, are any new characters allowed because... yeah.
If so, I would like to introduce Sutae and her mysterious guardian, Sir Mercenar (short for mercenary because he used to have no name).

"Hello friend, Sutae." said Arinatha as she stood up to greet the new comer. the others were quite startled, for they did not know that there was someone else with them. "Everyone, i'm sorry if she startled you. But this is my friend Sutae. Here at Aslan's How, Sutae. We have arrived. You have no need to worry of treacherous islands here. And Sir Mercenar, stay to yourself."

Things which go unnoticed are at sometime found," Arinatha said. "But please, Sir Mercenar, do not worry yourself. But Arethel had heard; "Until? Until what? Please, if there is danger, should we not know of it? Or...maybe it is that you cannot be sure of us. Is that it? Can you not trust us?". She turned away a little, ashamed of her doubt.

Sutae glanced around the group suspiciously, thought one could say a thread of trust dashed through her eyes, "Hello, all," she said quietly, "I am honored to meet you great peoples. I am curious to know your names, to know the mighty warriors I shalt be journeying with. I believe dear Arinatha has already introduced us, but I will do so once more. She smiled at each one of them and then stepped back beside her guardian, Mercenar.

"your courtesy is most appreciated Sutae" said Rosy indicating to floor around the fire" please come, sit and join our company. The place we are now is known in these times as Aslan's How- an ancient place full of magic. In the past it has been used for terrible purposes during war, but this night we meet here to sit and talk. We are all strangers of some degree in this land and merely wish to make f ew new friends. Come feast with us and tell of you provenance?"

I could backtrack further, but I do nto believe my friend, Mercenar would appreciate it," Sutae glanced up at her friend, but when he did not agree or disagree, she turned her eyes back into the flames, "We have traveled from a place far from here where many things that have happened are unheard of here."
"We do not know that, Sutae, for we do not know this place," Mercenar surprisingly spoke! He actually talked!
Sutae whirled around to stare at him for a moment and then her face broke out into a wide grin, "You are correct, friend. We do not know." She then glanced among the group, "I still don't understand this place. May anyone please introduce me to this place and explain to me why we are here and such?"

Rosy leaned back on her elbows stretching her feet towards the fire and turned her face up towards Thilayn "You have no need to worry Thilayn. There is no danger in this place.War and strife may not touch it for it is protected. Even enemies may sit face to face here and talk of better times. Please sit and do not concern yourself with troubles. The night is still young and we have many hours to pass.
Surely someone must have tale they wish to relate?"

Gray nodded in agreement. "There is no adventure in this place; we come here for rest, for thought and even for company. Perhaps there are many great deeds still to be done in the world beyond Aslan's How, but while we are here, let us take a small respite from them..." Gray sighed "I can think of no tale to tell at the moment, please, doesn't someone have a song, or such to bring merriment to the company?"

Rosy turned to her bag - travel worn and full of holes and pulled out a battered wooden flute- " If any one wishes to sing I could provide an accompaniment?"

She blew into the flute, her cheeks puffing out with strain of little practice, and an old leaf flew out of the end, making a ffhweee sound.

Ithilien
03-17-2005, 04:08 PM
Thilyan laughed and sat back down on the soft grass, watching the old leaf crackle as it landed in the fire. "Too weary am I to jouney at this late hour. And, upon reflection, nor am I too willing to travel again so soon. Indeed I can do with a little music, though I only know of folk tunes unbefitting of such company. Arethel, your voice is sweet. Perhaps you could charm away our anxieties to journey."

"You flatter me; yet - if Rosy is willing...

Long, long ago,
In this great land
The trees danced and the birds sang.

Fair was the Queen
Of our fair land;
Yet all lovelyness must pass away.

For when the strange,
Protecting tree
Lingering o'er many years

At length its great
And weighty boughs
No more could hold aloft,

Evil then o'er-took the land;
The Sorceress our kind had brought
Now had returned - to reign.

But in that bitter hour
A hope unlooked for came;
The Son of the Emporer over-sea.

He called across the worlds
The four great Kings and Queens
And he himself destroyed the vile Witch.

The royal four he crowned
And great was their reign;
The Golden Age of Narnia."

"Arethel, your voice has a beauty no instrument could match, and the words are wonderful indeed! As with gray I heard songs such as this when I was younger, although I also heard many a bawdy sea shanty, perhaps if I can remember one a little later I will attempt to entertain you all with it!"

"That was beautiful Arethel! Indeed, such a melancholic melody and a beautiful voice is bound to leave me even more weary than before." Thilayn said, stretching in the grass. She glanced at her horse, already asleep is the shadows. "Dark is the hour." She mildly commented.

Sutae smiled at the phenomonal voice of the singer and allowed her loyal Mercenar to help her up. "That was beautiful, Arethel, absolutely amazing. I've never known anyone to do better!" Still smiling she leaned against her guardian contentedly her head resting on his shoulder, "This is such a beautiful place. I would love to stay here forever, but I know such luxurious dreams cannot come true."

Mercenar stood rigidly, his form erect and unmoving. He seemed not to notice Sutae's presence, looking as if he was in a different world, dark eyes penetrating the limitations of one's imagination.

"Mercenar?" Sutae looked up at him suddenly, her quiet voice barely audible. His flashed back into focus as he averted them from the ceiling and at her, "Isn't this place just beautiful?"

Mercenar hesitated for a moment, but then nodded reluctantly.

Sutae sighed as she took on the task of supporting herself and stood nearly as erect as Mercenar, "I would be delighted to become more acquainted with you all," she glanced around the room smiling, "It is a rare pleasure to be in your company."

A quiet, shy woman had been sitting a little ways from the group but still fairly near to the fire, listening to the beautiful song. She stood and crept nearer to the group. Her black hair glistened in the firelight and her black eyes were alight with the beauty of the song she'd just heard. She wore a dark blue cloak, faded and tattered from much wear. Her sandals were worn and her face dusty. Yet she still managed to look beautiful. She was tall, thin and graceful, with beautiful white skin that had an eerie greenish glow to it in the firelight. Her delicately arched eyebrows and beautifully shaped lips gave her face a sweet tone to it, with a sharp nose that seemed quite out of place on it.

Rosy had begun to doze with the heat of the fire and lilt of the song, but something awoke her.
She eased herself slowly up to a sitting position and turned her head from side to side as half looking for someone. Her head suddenly turned to the left and an eyebrown raised." I beleive someone is watching us?" She struggled to her feet, at the same time picking up her dark green mottled cloak to wrap around herself.
Pushing back her hair over her ears she called out "Who loiters around our fire? Be not afraid friend- come and join us!"
As she uttered the last of these few words she saw a tall feminine figure glide from the surrounding woods.

She (NAME?!?!) jumped to her feet, startled, by the woman's voice. She looked around at them warily, but the temptation of the bright, crackling fire on this misty night proved too much for her danger instincts. She crept forward and sat down inbetween the woman who had spoken to her, and someone else. She made sure there was plenty of room between them.

Suddenly the group felt a presence, an unfortable one. They all felt cold swirl through the air around them. The look on their faces all changed to a fearful expression. "Please do not be alarmed" The group then turned and noicited a person dressed in all black grab that was old and teathered. It was a dense, heavy fabic, and brought a sense of mystery. A pale horse stood next to her. That was glowing because it was so white. His wings were closed around his body, as he snorted. "I am Thanatos, the incarnation of Death. I know it may seem strange that Death, herself would join you. But of course i am weary of my job, and it brings me sadness." Then Thanatos untook her mask upon her face, that was part of her uniform. She placed her sith in its sheath, that was upon Mortis, her steed, shoulders. "I am the first female to enter the office of Death. I hope you dont mind dinning with Death." Mortis walked to a near by tree and laid below it to recover for their trip.

Thanatos then removed her clothe from her head. Underneath was hair that was black as night, and her eyes were as silver as fish scales. Her face was as pale as the moon. "i understand why you might think that, and worry of my presence. But i am here on a "vacation" of soul collecting. Please do not worry, you will rise for many more sunrises." Thanatos then took a seat on a near by rock, close enough to the fire to feel the warmth. "I have come here on recommendation of a good friend, Fate. I am sure you know of her. Fate has told me amazing stories of the land of Narnia. Every few 10 years, us incarnations, are able to "vacation"." Thanatos then shifted her position, and looked upon the group. "Before i became Death, i was a mere mortal. My name was Nessa Nenharma. I havent been called upon that name in a few 100 years. I have been in the office for 400 or so years. I had seen death take my beloved father, and i killed him...I killed Death. The postion was open, and it had to be fill by me. I have merely come here to relax, and explore the tales of Narnia." Thanatos (Nessa) then looked around to look upon the faces of her company.

" So, from what you say we are to believe that you are no threat to us? But how can we know this is true? Do you follow the path of the Lion, or are you allied with those who would deny him?"
In an attempt to lighten the dark mood which now decended on the group Rosy picked up her skin of wine and offeredc it to the newcomer, " For it you are not in our way of thinking then this rich wine may not shared with you!" A light of gentle humour flashed behind her eys and she smiled a little, looking toward the stranger..

"Rosy speaks well. As for me, I place my faith in the Great Lion, in Aslan." said Gray "Whatever you call yourself, madam, is up to you, but I will not fear as long as the Lion keeps his breath upon me." The ranger passed a small smile, enough to indicate that, if this was indeed death, she did not fear to dine with her. "But if you would permit," said Gray "I would like to know by whose will do you do such unpleasant work? Is it by Aslan's decree?"

"I see where you are coming from. If i were the incarnation of time, whould you think i pose a threat? Incarnation Of Nature? Just because Death is the office i hold, that doesnt mean that i dont share the feelings that mortals have. I am on the side of The great lion. You should hed no fear. I do this because i have to, it is a job and i am the keeper of it. If there was no death, then people would go on suffering, starving, sufficating, but never dying. I may not believe what i do is right at times, but others i am happy to ease pain and rid people of there troubles. It is God's will that people die and join him in Kingdom of Heaven, or people will join Satan in the pits of Hell.......... I was married to a wonderful man, but i had to take his soul. I regret everyone i must take, exspecially if they are young, but you have to think i am doing a job. It is not i that kills them, it is Fate that tells me when the people die. She is the one that cuts the string of life, not i. I just take the soul, to stop suffering, to stop sadness that may be in my patience's hearts." Thanatos had never really thought bout her job being so threating before. This group was testing her quite well. Her head was swirling with confusion, sadness, excitiment, and happiness. Mortis then walked over to her, and nogded her shoulder to place comfort. "thank you, Mortis," thanatos whisphered. "How, what can I say to place ease to your hearts?"

"Perhpas we could have a tale or song to lighten the mood?"

Thilayn's feature's softened, quiet, and sedate. She whistled to her horse and the majestic steed bowed it's head and approached softly. Taking a knife from her boot, Thilayn pared off a sliver, offerring the fragrant meat to the newcomer. Strangely their seemed to be a faint resemblence between the two dark-haired maidens. Then I traveled on ward with my family to a town off the rivers of Eves. These lands are very secluded, and rarely found among men. There I met my husband, and we wedded. Two years past, and death came upon my father. That was the day that i suceeded death, and took his place. That is my sad tale. Now i am here at Aslan's How." Every death has a purpose for good or for ill. I am sure that there was some reason behind your parent's death, for there is for every death. I do not the stories behind people's death, for that information isnt even shared with me. I hope that this will not cause a gap in our friendship, hopefully to come." “ I have tale to tell” said Rosy stretching her arms in front of her. She picked up the full skin of wine from beside her and took a long draught from it. Coughing a little and wiping her mouth with the corner of a sleeve she leaned towards the fire " I shall tell you a little tale told to me by an ancient astronomer I met on my travels around the Lone Islands. When I met him it was the beginning of night in mid-summer, and he was walking along a beach where I was sleeping at the time. He sat next to me and began to talk of his knowledge of the stars and of the sky...

Many hundreds of years ago in a world not unlike ours was a great king. He was good and just but was faced with wars from many enemies. This King had fallen in love with a beautiful Princess who was the daughter of one of his enemies. But in the way of old, love prevailed and King and the Princess were married thus bringing together their two countries into a friendship of peace. The young Queen bore 4 daughters to the King and they lived happily together for many years.
The family would play and talk together- such love was never seen in the court before. Laughter echoed through the corridors and a smile lingered on the faces of all who went there.
One hot summer the King was called away to help his neighbour and father of his wife to fight in another great war. During this war the King saved the life of a great wizard who in return granted the King eternal life. At first this pleased the King greatly- he could remain young and strong and take care of his country and family as well a much younger man could.
However as the years passed and the Queen grew old and grey the King remained youthful and lamented his acceptance of the gift from the wizard. In time the Queen died and the King became melancholy beyond reckoning, even his daughters could give him no comfort. Yet more time passed and the King’s daughters grew old too, and also passed on to the next world. The King still remained as he had so many lifetimes ago, until one day he took the decision to seek out the wizard who had given him the accursed gift of eternal life and ask to end his torments.
He found the wizard and begged him “ For the sake of all happiness and goodness in this world my Lord, please end my pain! Without my beautiful wife and daughters I have no passion to exist anymore and wish for nothing but to see them once more, or else to cease living this very moment.” The wizard looked upon this broken man with a kindly heart and replied “My son, when I bestowed the gift of life upon you I too was young and did not understand what a curse my action would be. I can not reverse what I have done, for the ways of magic do not operate in a such a way, but perhaps I may offer some relief from you pain? A wife and 4 daughters you say? Tell me, what were they like to look upon?
“ My wife,” the King began “ was tall, like willow tree, but with hair like fire from the sun- such a mixture of red and gold would make your heart leap just to look on it, and her smile- the warmest reddest most welcoming you could wish for.
My eldest daughter had hair of the darkest ebony, and such pale skin that you thought she would break if you touched her. My second daughter also had the blackest hair, but she had the olive toned skin, from many hours spent in the light of day. My third daughter had the hair of her mother- alive with colour and passion- she shared a love of outdoor life with her elder sister. And my youngest daughter – beautiful like something not of this earth, her hair was deep burned orange but her skin so pale, almost like ivory. All my daughters and my wife were more beautiful than anything I have yet to see on this earth. What I would give to look upon their faces again”
“ Then it shall be so” the wizard razed his great staff toward the sky and spoke long words of magic and time to the sky. “ Look to the sky my son when ever you feel the burn of lost love in your heart. Above the horizon you will see five planets. The largest is your wife – see the red colours swirling around her and if you look you may even see her smiling lips. The four smaller planets around her are your daughter- each with appearance you have described to me. They can look down on you until the world fails, and you in term can look up to them and know that love still holds strong. One day you will be united again.”

Rosy looked up to the night sky above the Dancing Lawn and peered in to the stars above. “I asked the man on the beach if we could see these heavenly bodies from our world, but he replied no. He did tell me that in another world they go by the names Jupiter, Ganymede, Callisto, Io and Europa”

Thanatos then smiled with a nod to Rosy. "If a story of happy times falls upon me, i will be glad to share," Thanatos said with some excitiment in her voice. "Perhaps a song, I can offer - one of the traditional madrigals of my village." spoke Thilayn, emerging from her deep contemplation.

"Fair Helena was sitting all alone,
All alone on the mountainside,
Beneath the open sky and sweet clouds,
Over the soft pastures and its maiden flowers,
tending to her father's poor flock.

Night drew near and it was still;
and yet fair Helena did not return.
The shepherds knew not where she wandered.
And so her betrothed roamed the lonely hills,
calling to his beloved.

And there he found fair Helena,
All alone on the mountainside.
Beneath the open sky and sweet clouds,
Over the soft pastures and its maiden flowers,
Fallen asleep under the stars."

Like Helena, my childhood friend and I would wander every morning with our flock to the favourable pastures on the mountain pass. What a silly child i was. Out of all the things i could have had, a slice of pie, is what i wished for." Thanatos then pushed her hair behind her ears once again. "Well since that day he stay with my family and I for 5 more years to come. He tought me few things of magic, but nothing really special. Mortis landed behind the newcomer, and troted behind this Hoaleal. Thanatos looked at the newcomer as he walked closer to the company. She lowered her scyth, but had it ready just in case. "Why do you spy on our company if you mean no harm, speak swiftly," Thanatos said in a stern voice, but in a welcoming sort of way.

There was a moment's pause before this new stranger spoke, but it spoke with such fear that it disturbed the group, "I spy because of what has happened in the past. I wanted to be sure who one of your party was before I joined the group. For I was sure I had seen her before. I am sorry if I had frightened thou, but I just had to know."

Thanatos

"Who have you seen before?" Thanatos said with curiosity. Thanatos then whistled over to Mortis. "Mortis come," and Mortis troted over and stood beside her.

Thilayn did not speak. Her face was enigmatic and placid, but withing emotions raged. There was something familiar about the man's demeanor, yet she could not understand why.

"I'll tell in due time. But for now, lets sit by the fire, and listen to our stories. For that is why we have gathered in Aslan's How."

Thilayn settled back to her place by the fire. "Perhaps you could tell us a story, Holeal."

"I can see the anxiety in your voice to hear my story, and since this is so, i guess I will entertain your request. But first, we need food! I am sure we all hunger for the catch we can get and the harvest from the surrounding trees, for a good story always needs good food!" It was obvious Hoaleal was avoiding the subject, but this could not be helped.

Thanatos took seat to her prior sitting next to the fire. She noticied that Hoaleal was trying to avoid the subject. "Well you must be hungry from your long travels, but do not worry we all have plenty of food here," Thanatos said as she pointed out the food that was already about. "I am anxious to hear your story," Thanatos said as she drew back her night coloured hair.

(you guys are evil. EVIL! Making me tell my story so soon. First, Ithilian wrecks my entrance, which she did intentionally(remember, badminton startes tomorrow. See Canada thread for more details), and then you people make me tell my story before i have it worked out. Fine I'll tell my story to make you all happy :D)

"I come a village called Alsimeric in Archenland. It is a magical place where prophacies are often told from the oracle blessed by Aslan. I was given this prophacy from the oracle.

Days will come where evil will appear
Some will gather, where there is no fear
They will gather to right the wrong
But to happen, you must obey this song

One of the group must be saved
From the Calorman, her path will will be paved
A traveller, one will be
But the world she must see

Fate will will be an ally
Death will not lie
Where some feel the need to arrive,
To come back to the hive

The hive of Narnia's salvation
Where warriors will come, where you're intention
will be challenged by all
In the party, where they will recieve the call

"After I heard this prophecy, I immediatly set out for fate, for I knew she was one of the beings I needed to find to make this prophecy happen. That is how fate came to know of the prophecy, and told Thanatos to come for her "vacation". She then told me of two other members of the group that needed my help to come to this place. One was Thilayn, which I had to take drastic measures to get her here. After her parents died, she was to be raised by her uncle, who wanted her inheritance from her parents, by any means necessary. I took her from her home, and placed her in the best place I could find that was out of the reach of her uncle, and where the villagers would raise her. That is why I brought her to Thilayn, and I let fate finish the job. The other person I had to help bring here was Rosy. After I brought Thilayn to her village, I convinced Rosy's parents to see the world and become traders, to inspire Rosy to travel the seas.

And that is my story"

(that was the coolest post ever!!! I loved your story, sooo awesome!!!)

"Wow, what a story you have, Hoaleal." Thanatos said with much surprise. "I did not know what Fate had in store for me when i came on this trip, but now it makes little more sense. At first i had my suspicions, but now i see that you are true. I am sorry for my doubt," Thanatos said as she bowed her head.

"so.." said Rosy, leaning forward to look mor closely at the newcomer "you seem to know great deal about us, and you say you have engineered our coming together here- for what purpose? This How is simply a meeting place for weary travellers. PLease tell us more!"
Rpsy continued to stare intently at Hoeleal, but still not quite trusting.

"Let us offer the newcomer some refreshments first before we parch his throat from such endless interrogation," Thilayn spoke at last and threw the skin of wine at the newcomer. She never took her eyes of the stranger. Despite their common past she showed no sign of emotion. Instea, her face remained a cold mask.

After quenching his thirst, Hoaleal spoke this statement "All I know has been told. All that is left is for us to wait for the call mentioned in the last line of the prophecy. However, others may come before this call, and once this call happenes, we must obey it immediatly. But for now, we wait and rest" And then, he sat down, for the first time in ages, and waited to see the fellow warrior's reaction.

"Well, I can see no other course of action we can take," Rosy relaxed a little seeing the newcomer seat himself by the fire "If we must await something which we know little of then all we can do is sit and talk, and eat and drink also" she grinned a little a took another sip from the wine skin.
"I feel the air getting a chill, which means morning is approaching. If you look out the sea you can sea the warmth of the sun slowly bleeding into the water out on the horizon. Now is also the best time to view the stars, look up to the sky and you can see each of them shining..what stories they could tell if only they could speak to us!"
Rosy lay back on the grass, but as the cold dew soaked into the cloak she lent forward again and warmed her hands on the now dying fire.

Thanatos then looked up at the stars, "They are beautiful, indeed," she said with a happy sigh. "My good friend Chronos (time), has been to the stars of their formation and to their destruction many times. He says it is quite a sight to see, for it brought wonder to his eyes," Thanatos then took a sip from her wine skin. Thanatos then lend back to lay her head upon Mortis' stomach. He was laying behind Thanatos, and she could feel the warmth of this body and the fire. She then let out another happy sigh, and continued to look upon the heavens.

She sat down and just before she was about to tell her story, a scream arose from out of the woods. All were silent, and then Yet another newcome came struggling out of the woods. Twas a royal Tarkheena as all could see but she was dressed in rags and the side of her head was cut terribly. She came and sat down by the fire, and said, "I hear this is where storys can be told," and fainted.

Jumping up with a look of severe surprise on her face Rosy exclaimed " Well, at least she's polite!"
Rushing over to the now prostrate girl she ripped a strip off her dress, one that was a little less moth-eaten than the rest, and rapped it around the wound.
" Friends," looking around to the group gathered around the fire she called "could one of you collect me a handful of primrose leaves from the forest so i may make a poultice to help our new friend!"

The girl slowly came to, but all the while murmmered things about Arkenland and the Tisroc. Was she affiliated with him? or was she sorry she ever was near him? This was a story just waiting to be told, once she was fully concious.

Sitting herself next to the prostrate form of the girl on the floor Rosy rummaged in her bag and pulled a small faux crystal vial into the light and uncorked it. She tipped alittle of the warming liquid into the girls mouth and waited for the reaction.

Saying to no one in particluar.." this tonic is made of a grain found only on the Western end of Doorn. It must be steeped in honey for 40days and then mixed with water and simmered over a low fire for 3 hours. It has 'refreshing' qualities, but be careful not to take too much!"
She hoped that the home made liquere would have the same effect as the natural poultice she'd hoped to make.

Thanatos was completey surprised when someone just came out of the woods, just like that. "I can help....i have seen many injuries like this and much worse," Thanatos said confindent. Chronos had given Thanatos many stones, that held wild powers. But they were of white magic. Thanatos reach in her bag and pulled out a small Jade stone. "Here this will help," She said placing it on her wound, "This has little power left so it wont fully heal it. But it should stop the bleeding." Thanatos said

Timelessness, emptyness, that was the only way to describe what Samuel felt when in the wood between the worlds. He hd jumped through many of the pools always hoping that it would be the one that would take him to Narnia. But alas after many days or weeks or months. He had still not found that elusive pool, as he sat down next to one of the identical trees next to an identical pool he slowly began to sing. He sung of Aslan and of the wonders of Narnia, of Talking animals and walking trees. Giants and Centaurs, Heroes and villains. But most of all he sang of a King across a sea and the wonderous paradise found therin. As Samuel decided that all hope was lost and he would never find that singular pool he made up his mind to try once more. As he looked for a pool he heard a voice in his mind stong and kingly, yet passionate and kind. "For there is the Utter East." He felt a hot breath on the back of his neck as he gathered his courage and jumped.

The trip through the pool was almost instantaeneous but he could feel the cold touch of the water upon his skin, but wondered as if it was the first time he had done this. Why he did not get wet. It was a mystery better left unsolved in his mind.

Samuel landed with a loud thump.

Gray stood up suddenly, and tried to shake the strange tugging sensation that was pulling her up from the fire and her companions. Something had changed in the air around them – and for a moment the night seemed odd and mysterious.

"I think I heard something," she said "Does someone else draw near?"

Samuel shook himself off as he came to, it seemed that he had landed a little to hard. Well there were worse things than being covered with snow......SNOW!!!!! He was in Narnia, he looked around frantically for the lampost and ran right into it. As he rubbed his head, he noticed a fire a little ways off. He strapped on his Sword and backpack and started off towards the light. As he exited the forest surrounding the glade he saw 4 people sitting around the fire staring at him. he raised his hand in greeting and began. "Hello I am The Sojourner."

Thanatos

Hoaleal knew many people at the fire had something to hide, and he was not sure how to get a story out of them. But maybe a story is not what is needed, he thought. He saw the sun rise above the horizon, noticing that not a part of the sun was hidden anymore.

"Well, I guess there's no way for us to sleep now, lets gather some breakfast and feed the fire."

The old man got up and started towards the forest, going to get some more firewood. He was hoping someone from the party would follow him, perhaps he can get a story if it was just him.

Thanatos
06-25-2005, 04:23 PM

"Well, we shall offer no more, fair Tarkheena." Thilayn said to the still form. She, herself, was feeling rather tired at the moment, having spent an entire night with exciting interludes of newcomers arriving in various dramatic ways. She saw the old man struggle to get up. Instinctively, abandoning her cold demeanor, Thilayn helped Holeal to stand. "I trust you are going to gather wood? I'll join you. God knows, I can do with a little walk." Thilayn stretched luxuriously and yawned widely before setting off after the old man.

Arethel stood, and followed. She felt a little chilled as she moved away from the fire. She suddenly remembered Arinatha's half-spoken warning, that they would be safe, until we begin our journey. She shivered.
