Hi!

Currently I'm reading the lord of the rings, absoloutley wikid book, and i found something in there that was perhaps something to do with tolkien and lewis in real life.

On page 178 of the fellowship of the ring, the group are troubled by some unpleasant and strange crickets that make a sort of "neek-breek, breek-neek" sound and sam names the neekerbreekers. Now, in prince caspian, we have an unpleasant character by the name of Nickabrick, a possible connection?? Maybe both tolkien and lewis had some unpleasant experience related to that sort of sounding 'thing', or maybe its some sort of inside joke, or maybe im just crazy, lol. Whichever it is, id like to get some input from you all

haha, wow, that seems like a stretch to me, but interesting connection you've found nonetheless. I have never heard of any connection there, but maybe someone else has...

It could be that the harsh sounds sounds made by the letter 'k' and 'e' mixed together appealled to both men for conveying something unpleased?

I'd like to think that Tolkein lost many an hours sleep to crickets- to whom the neeker-breekers may well be linked and wanted to partiaklly demonsie them eternally i his writings..and the Lewis had an unfortunate incident with a small bearded man who stole part of his garden wall...well maybe..

I know for certain that the horse Bree was named after (and Lewis intended in honor of) the town of Bree in the Lord of the Rings. Interesting specualtion about Nikabrik - I know that Lewis referred to him originally as "Nick-a-brick" - which sounds a lot like neekerbreekers. I don't know if you can make much of it, but it's an excellent observation!
