Has anyone read the story of Monkey, or "Journey to the West" as it is known?

I've heard of it, I found out about it when I used be into the anime dragonball z, and reading about it on the internet, i found out dbz is loosely based off it. I cant really remeber but isnt journey to the west meant to be about a monkey that travels to japan? to learn how to become a magician or something? Correct me if im wrong plz, i read it ages ago.

No, Monkey is a deity that was banished from Heaven after demoloshing the great banquet of the Gods and attempting to supplant the Jade Emperor or "Kami-Sama".
"Monkey", or Sun Wukong/Son Goku is given the task of retrieving the sacred scrolls from India by the Great Buddha.
