Did anyone else find it strange how the tradition of the king being called caspian stopped? Why do you think he was called rilian instead?

Rilian and Caspian were not the same person.

Matter of factly the Narnia stories took place over several centuries. Time passed so much faster in Narnia than it did on Earth ath the entire history of that world went by from about 1890 to 1946. That means the entire universe rushed by in under 60 years. By Narnian time, of course, it did not seem that way at all.

The very fact that Digory (the Professor) was alive througout the entire history of Narnia shows you just how surreal the mismatch in our universes was.

Yes, but I don't think that was the point - the point of the OP was that after Caspian the Tenth, suddenly there were no more Caspians at all.

Perhaps it was because "Caspian" was a Telmarine name, and after the "restoration" of Narnia as a kingdom of talking beasts and fabulous creatures ruled by Men, rather than a kingdom of Men, the Kings thought it would be a good idea to ring the changes a little through the ensuing eight generations or so that Narnia lasted.

I agree with that - after all, "Caspian" being the unbroken (until Miraz) name of the ruler of generations of Telmarine oppressors, it would hardly become a "true Narnian" king - i.e. one seeking to rule by the will of Aslan in the pattern of King Frank and High King Peter - to take the name.

Maybe they all got bored after the tenth Caspian! It was probably time for a change and it would have been confusing if all the kings in the last books were called Caspian.

Plus Caspian the 10th sounds cool as an official title, but Caspian the 11th is repetive.

i just think that caspian and ramidus daughter talked it over and decided to go with something different. i mean who wants to name their kid the same name that you and all your fathers farthers had?
so i think they decided to go with a change!

Well, Caspian I thru Caspian IX were obviously cool with it. :p

yeah, all of the ideas make sense really, probably the reason was a combination of all the reasons above

They have always done that in European royal families. They'll name all their first-born-sons one name (like Henry) and then someone will decide to give their first-born-son a different name. Maybe the Roman numeral becomes too long, like, “Henry XVIII” so time for a new name? :D

It depends on the royal family, though. Kings and Queens of England have mixed it up a bit. We went from Henry IV to Henry VIII in rapid succession, and also from George I to George IV, but we've brought in Richards and Edwards and Charleses and Williams and so on. OTTOMH though I don't think we've had anything but Charles, William and George since the sixteen hundreds, at least as far as Kings go - the Queens have mixed it up a bit (but then you have to remember that the Queens weren't named with the intention that they'd be ruling, because if they had subsequently had a brother he would have come ahead of them in the succession, just as Edward VI did over Mary and Elizabeth).

Charles, Prince of Wales, may or may not reign as Charles III. Neither his grandfather (George VI) nor his great-uncle (Edward VIII) reigned under their first names - they were respectively christened Bertie and David.

I personally think that it would have been really confusing to have Jill and Eustace trying to rescue Caspian 10th's son Caspian. I would strat to think they were the same person, so the changing of the name keeps the characters straight.

Of course, just to correct myself, we've had a couple of Jameses and a couple of Edwards too.
