142 million people are supposed to die IF the bird flu strain H5N1 mutates into a pandemic. Please pray that this doesn't happen!!!! Because we only have enough respirators to give to the young and healthy!

Don't get to panicked about bird flu, it's only killed a very few people so far - those who spend all of their time with poultry, the people who need to be really worried are poultry farmers, who will lose their livelyhoods if it takes a strong hold.
There will be a lot of scaremongering about the potential disaster of the H5N1 virus, but at the moment there's no need to worry!

yes i do realize...but the fact that it could mutate ANY day is worrying a bit....especially since it is now in Germany and Austria and working its way towards us...

I know, because since it is discovered in Germany, we have our rules in Holland too. We already had the birdflu about two years ago, and I agree with Rosymole, people are far too overreacting. When the birdflu comes near, it is almost like we should walk in special clothes etc. It was on the news that it is absolutely not true the flu will kill millions and millions of people. Because the chances people can be effected is not that big.
I do hate what will happen to the birds. Many birds must be killed when it comes in a certain area. It reminds me of Mouth-and-foot disease almost 4 years ago. We had it here and a huge number of cattle was killed. It was sad to see no cows or sheeps and I am happy it is over now.

LOl peter lover you are sooo confused! Right now, the bird flu will only kill like 100 people, but when it mutates, and can be passed from human to human, that is called a PANDEMIC lol...we dont have a vaccination for it! that is why it is worrying!

No, I am not sooooo confused. Hahaha! We hear already nothing else than the last couple of weeks and especially since it is coming closer to my country. germany is our neighbour. It is not like a bird is flying over your head and is having the flu, you have it, and all people around you will die. That was said on the news also. There is a huge panical situation about this, because people are informed wrong. There are some things you should keep in mind: You should always wash your hands when you have touched a death swan or bird or duck and you should call the experts when you don't trust it when you see dead birds. It is now a bit made like: Help!!! There is birdflu and we can get it and now we are all going to die. That is the panical situation. If it is this bad, we must all stay inside and don't come out without masks or special suits. And I can tell ya, there is nothing else on the news right now than all this panic around the flu and the experts said it was not that easy to get, because otherwise there already should have died millions of people.

it's a deadly disease that goes through birds. it combined with one of our viruses and mutated into H5N1. if it mutates again werre in big trouble.
