I truly don't understand how we can have all these fantasy worlds and not a discussion of Tortall. Anyone on here know what I'm talking about?
And I voted Aly, she's my favorite character by far. I know I left people out, but its hard to get everyone. I tried to keep it to Tortallians.

I have to be honest, I've never heard of it. :o
It sounds kind of cool though.

they're by Tamora Pierce. There's the Song of the Lioness Quartet, The Immortalls, Protector of the Small, Trickster's Choice & Trickster's Queen, and the Circle of Magic. They are really good fantasy stories. So was that your vote for George? Because if so, you picked a good choice when you don't know the characters.

I love Neal! Hes so cool! I told my friend about him, and she was like 'He sounds obnoxious' then I made her read 'First Test' which is the only one of the books I own, (she wasnt gonna read it till I was laughing so hard over 'Lady Knight' when she was at my house, I wasnt being rude she told me to finish it since I had to return it to my other friend the next day)and her absolute favorite character was Neal! I knew she would love him! Everybody has to! Anyway I was kinda dissapointed in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th books, they had good plots. But the way Kel goes all wishy-washy made me so so soooooooooo mad!

What can I say, I've always been a Rogue at heart ;)

George was my favorite character until Trickster's Choice came out. then I fell in love with Aly because she's her father all over again. i don't like how wishy-washy Kel is either but Alanna's worse than she is!

the first ones came out in 1984 and she's been writing more ever since. you should definitely read them. They're great. All about girl warriors and mages. (wizard/druid type people)

Yeah I haven't read the Alanna books, the only ones I have read are the Protector of the Small Quartet, but Slyvia told me this 'The Alanna books are kinda weird shes like 'oh a man, wanna get in bed with me?'' anyway I want to read The Tricksters books but I havent gotten the chance!

the alanna books are not like that at all. alanna does sleep with a grand total of 3 men in her entire life. which is not much in the grand scheme of things. also, the reason it is included is because the time period is the middle ages. the author has commented numerous times that sex happened much more frequently in the middle ages (people just kept it quiet and took care of their problems.) also, at the age of any of these girls, they would have been married already. girls married at 14. alanna, keladry, aly, are all against the norm in some ways but they are still girls and grew up in that culture. and most of the books have nothing about that in them. the books are primarily the story of the girls becoming knights, spies, and mages.

I had to pick Daine, mainly because I wish I could live with the wolves and change into different animals. Though I almost picked Alanna, but the animal thing, so cool.

i would love to live there and become a knight. but even more i think being a spy would be cool. I've always wanted to work in the field of international espionage.

I really like the books. I read "Trickster's Choice" and "Trickster's Queen" when they came out. First though, I read the Wild Magic series. They really are good books, perfect if you like the Narnia books. :)

Apparently there is either a trilogy or quartet about Numair coming out over the next 2 years. Supposed to tell the story of how he became a mage and changed his name. I can't wait. The Circle of Magic series just wasn't enough for me. I wanted to learn about Tortall mages.

Really? Cool! I really need to reread some of the books since it has been awhile.
What series/books are the favorites of everyone here?

I heard too that there are supposed to be a trilogy on George's great x a lot grandmother. Its set like 200 years before Alanna's story and she's one of the early rogues. It sounds fascinating to me. I'm really hoping they'll start making movies out of the books. After all, fantasy is making Hollywood lots of money right now. The only hard thing would be dealing with the immortalls. I think most would be decent with CGI but I don't think you could pull off the right effect of the Stormwings. And I always liked the Stormwings. Just for the fact that I think our world today could use something that disgusting to remind us why war and death is so horrible.

I voted for Keladry but Aly and Nawat are close. Keladry's my favorite though because she became a knight even though she was a girl. It was easier for Alana because she disguised herself as a boy. Keladry had to do it the hard way.

I ended up saying a Shang Warrior, like the Wildcat from Kel's books. I thought about Alanna, but after the first two books I didn't like her as much. I liked it when she was training for her shield, once she got it I wasn't as enthralled. I still loved the books, but it wasn't the same. I thought about saiyng Daine because of the animal element, but I hated the fact she ended up with Numair. And I just don't like Kel.

I don't like Kel that much either. I like that she protects people but I hate that she can't have any sympathy for Jonathan. I mean, Jonathan may have his problems but Kel just acts like he should do whatever she wants him to and not worry about cooperating with others. So far, I still like Aly best. She's much more spunky than the rest of them.

Prince in the Alanna series, king of Tortal after that.

Ok, that would explain why I don't really remember him, I've only read the Protector of the Small Quartet. And he didn't have a very big part in that
I like Kel in the first book, but in the 2nd,3rd, and 4th book she was just so wishy-washy! I can't stand wishy-washy people.
I liked Neal and Dom, they were so sarcastic...and the knight that took Kel on as his Squire, he was cool too

Raoul is the knight and he is fabulous. He shows up a lot in the Alanna quartet too which is great.

Oh yeah, bad one to start with. It can be really confusing if you start on anything but the first book. Just because so many of the later books reference the others. It would be like trying to read Return of the King without reading Fellowship or Two Towers.
If you feel like trying again, I'd suggest starting with Alanna The First Adventure.
