LOL, I didn't think it was so much unnecessary as kind of funny ... as if you were saying, "I'm not a Baptist myself, but I know there are such things as Baptists." Like in the Middle Ages when people thought the Knights Templar were still around as a secret society, and everyone would accuse everyone else of being a Templar, although there weren't really any Templars left.
Now that was unnecessary!
I am not a Baptist, but my pastor came out of the Baptist tradition and founded our non-denominational church.

I'm Southern Baptist. My dad's a Southern Baptist pastor. We have Methodist, and maybe a Catholic church here. We also have a Masonic Lodge. In case you don't know what that is, The Knights Templar, as mentioned were a secret society. Sort of still is. I'm not entirely sure what a Mason is, you'd have to ask someone who knows.

I was a Baptist for a long time. Now I go to Calvery Chapel. It is like Baptist, but there is no membership. I might have to go to a Baptist church in Utah, since there are no close Calvery Chapels near Logan.

Ah, the Knights Templar were European Knights who helped "liberate" Jerusalem in the Crusades, then stayed on in order to protect the temple and Christian pilgrims travelling from Europe. Eventualy of course they were turned out of the Holy Land, so they went back to Europe and tried to be Temple Knights there, but it didn't work out because there was no temple, and people accused them of being a secret cult and what-not, and the whole deal fell apart. They really have nothing to do with being Baptist, or a Mason. I think the Masons are a civic group with secret hand-shakes and stuff. Like a lodge.

"and other religions" doesn't that defeat the purpose of saying its for baptists?

Okay so I go to a southern baptist church and consider myself baptist if you ask me my specific denomination. But I would rather just be called a Christian.
Aslan the Wise One - although we are all devout and loyal fans to Narnia, unfortunately Narnia doesn't actually exist. I hope Narnia isn't your "religion", but just a wonderful story that is full of symbolism of the one and true God that you love and serve.

Hum, I'm a bit Baptist...ok, not really very much. I go to Baptist services, but I have some major theological differences. But that doesn't get in the way of the fact that Baptists are my brothers and sisters in Christ.
