View Full Version : Any Members Here Over 40????

This is perhaps a good means of introducing myself as I'm new here, but also I'm curious if there are any members here who are in the over 40 group--and to be honest I can actually be consider in the 50 and up range, as I turned half a century on November 19th of last year.
I have a multitude of interests--being of course a Narnia fanatic--my editions of the books are over 20 years old---I also happen to be a great fan of Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter--in other words for an "old" geezer like me, I think I read more children's/young adult books than "adult" books.
I'm into everything--a classic Renaissance person--photographer, artist, craftsperson, and writer--I have the honor of having been published with my first short story, and ironically with Minas Tirith-Evening Star, the journal of the American Tolkien Society--
Love to hear from fellow old geezers like me--LOL

I am 46, but no matter how old I become, you'll always be four years OLDER. :D
When you came out with the "half century" remark, you pushed me from third oldest known member to fourth oldest. Whoo-HOO!

My mother is 43. Does that count?

LOL, no, it does not! Everyone's mother is getting up there in years ...
I am 42 or 43 -- I can never figure it out. I was born in December in 63, so whatever I think that makes me 43 cuz 2006 - 1963 = 43.
But I am like you, Pye, always reading more children's and young adult books thatn adult books. They're more fun, a nicer escape. Welcome, anyway, Pye. There are a few geezers around.

Welcome to the forum, pyewacket! I'm not exactly over 40 (honestly, not by a long[I] shot!:D) but I would still like to say welcome! I love Narnia too, obviously, and am glad you've joined! :)

Yes.
But, as the above posts underscore, it is not how old you are but how old you feel.
We "old-timers" just have a little more experience and time behind us to help us deal with the "changing" times of the present. Sometimes I find myself learning from the younger generations just so I can cope with this "Brave New World." :D

Love all your responses :)
Yes, age wise I'm 50----but inwardly I'm a demented 9 year old :p
People tell me I don't look my age, that I could pass for about 32 or so----mmmm.....yet there are days and I guess this is true for all of us, that my body feels other wise--you know getting those aches you didn't have like 5 or 10 years ago--
Years ago, I was a die-hard mystery fan--this goes back to when I was a kid and read Nancy Drew--then later gradutated to Agatha Christie--now I'm pure fantasy books--think that has something to do with age and getting older??? I just found out too, that the Chronicles of Narnia DVD is coming out April 4th and there will be a special edition of it as well---can't wait!!!!
Oh, and the "Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire" is coming out too---oh, yes, I'm a HP fan too!! ;)

When people used to say I had no life, I used to tell people "Life begins at 40." I've had six and a half years to think of a new excuse and I'm still clueless... :D

The King of words at a loss for them...Please note, the Magister didn't say he was at a loss for words, simply that he was clueless. I've never seen him at a loss for words no matter what his condition. :)

If he is clueless as to what to say then he is at a loss for words. If he wasn't clueless he would be able to say something and then wouldnt be at a loss for them POTW!!

My, my--it's been awhile since I've popped here--no it's not my age causing my failing memory--LOL  It's just that lately I've had a lot of serious heavy duty work to do at a computer--that's the one thing about getting older--one has to contend with so much serious stuff in life--thought I'd goof off though today and have some fun.
Well It's only going to be a few more days before the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe will be out on DVD--this might be blasphemy to say, being that I'm also a die-hard Lord of the Ring fan, but I don't ever remember wanting a DVD movie so much before--Anyone else here feel the same way ???

I always waited for the November Extended Edition Release of the LOTR movies, so now I am wondering ... is there going to be an extended edition of Narnia? Cuz if so, I will wait for that.

Why do you think this? If it's that Narnia is a children's series, keep in mind it speaks of much deeper spiritual truths. Or perhaps you weren't aware? If you pop over to the Christianity and Narnia forum, you will find a bunch of adult discussion, a lot of it just using Narnia as a leaping off point. There's a lot more to the Forum than Fan Clubs and the Land of Duffers. :)

I will be 34 at the end of next month  Still young but not a teenager anymore. At the LOTR fanboards where I'm a member, there are hardly people younger than 20. The oldest is 67 and the youngest 10. I must admit that although I love LOTR, those boards are not like those here. I love this and I am happy we have a lot of older members here. You don't feel lonely :p

I can fully imagine myself on forums like these in 30 years time. I don't think I'll ever stop loving children's books.
