Ok, so you don't like Miyazaki... :o
But has anyone read "Watership Down". I fell in love with this book from page one, the Rabbits have their own society, language and mythology!!
The tales of El-Ahrairah ("Prince of a thousand enemies") read like mini Greek epics!!!!
There's also a lot o environmental and cultural issues explored in it. ;)

I watched the movie when I was little and I read most of the book, but at the same school got in the way so I have yet to finish it. I think next school year is my year to finally finish Watership Down.

I'm so glad someone else likes it!
I find it's comparable to the story of Moses, in that it's about a prophet(Rabbits' can be prophets too, you know!) who leads his people (Also Rabbits) away from "slavery" to a life of freedom.
Because the Owsla of Sandleford Warren could be percieved as slavers, in that they control what the other rabbits do and how they live.
I love Bigwig by the way, he's my favourite character! :D

I love Watership Down. Oh, and by the way, I know someone who has actually been there. The locations are real. He's taken numerous photos and put them on his website.

Wow! ;) That's so cool! I want to go to the Berkshire downs too! Once I learn to drive I'll visit them. By the way, that website was really good. Especially the bit about the number of visitors. HRAIR! :D
Very good!!!!!

I love Watership Down, too. Fantastic story. And I love that little Fiver character. Although he's the one who has the psychic experiences and can sense beyond what the other rabbits can, he's also the one who is least likely to believe in the old myths -- when the scout group is saved by the train (which they term a messenger from Frith or their concept of God), Fiver is convinced their must be a natural explanation for what occured. He is like a psychic/skeptic.
