A gentle wind blew that morning. As he walked out of his house walking to the university, all he could think about was getting the day over with so that he could go out in the evening and take yet another stab at romance. As he drove, his mind shifted into a subconscious state of thought like it always would when he would forget to take his morning coffee. Upon passing a chapel in the road, this serene state of mind was broken abruptly as he realised that he hadn’t said his morning prayers. His first reaction was embarrassment, followed by a hint of shame knowing that some rather unpleasant things would always seem to come up whenever he would miss them.
“Okay let’s see,” he thought as he took a sudden glimpse at the clock in his car, “I’m twenty minutes away from university, the lecture starts in thirty and morning prayers take me about ten minutes- This is definitely going to be a close one.”
It was at that moment that he remembered the chapel located on the university campus. As he pressed his toe on the accelerator, he was determined to succeed. After zooming onto campus and parking, he made his way to the chapel, gasping for air.
“Note to self, start training more regularly,” he mumbled to himself sarcastically as he genuflected before the sacrament.
He sat down on the nearest chair he could find and did the sign of the cross. What followed was a seven minute litany of the ‘Hail Mary,’ ‘Our Father’ and the ‘Glory’. Feeling a lot better knowing that He had performed his Christian duties for the morning, he genuflected and made his way out of the chapel only to find out that it was raining and cold.
“Yeah, tell me God doesn’t have a sense of humour,” he said, feeling somewhat vexed at the fact that he had neither a jacket nor an umbrella and there was no shelter leading to the lecture theatre.
“Oh well, as the saying goes- ‘Into each life some rain must fall’ and all that crap,” he said as he neared the courtyard outside the chapel which looked like it was under bombardment by little bullets of water.
At that moment a sudden flicker of light seemed to have come from behind him. Suddenly startled, he looked behind only to see what looked like a bangle lying on the floor. He could have sworn that it was emanating a faint blue glow for a second as he approached to examine it. Upon picking it up, he noticed that it was incredibly light. A sapphire was embedded in the middle of it and around it, once could see some very strange carvings, some of which resembled some old Latin Christian characters he had seen in his younger days. Since nobody was around to claim it, he picked it up, planning to take it to a police station for it to be claimed, although he found it very strange that someone would drop a bangle right off their hand without hearing it drop.
And so he ran to the lecture theatre with all of his strength, managing to get there somewhat dry. Once the lecture ended, he went on his way to run a couple of errands, at the end of which he would take the bangle to be reported as lost. On his way to the stationer to buy some pens, he could see a black robed figure walk past him. He was always put off by men in black due to the stereotype bad guy on television that he would always see dressed in black as a child. As he tried to steer clear of this figure walking in his direction, the man’s pace accelerated. It looked like he was coming straight for him. As the figure walked by, the air suddenly became thick. It was as if time had stopped for a second and he felt like his life force was being plucked right out of his flesh. All he could hear was a voice in his mind.
“Give it to me. You don’t deserve that power!” the voice exclaimed. It was a deep and resonant voice, the likes of which he had only heard in nightmares.
As the figure passed by, he looked behind only to see that he had disappeared into the crowd. It was only lunch time and he was already feeling somewhat freaked out by the day’s events. This however did not deter him. Somehow sensing that something was wrong, he went to the university chaplain and showed him the object he had stumbled across earlier on. The priest examined the item closely, only to give him the answer “It’s yours now”.
And so the night arrived. As he got ready to go out, he figured he might as well try on his new accessory, hoping it would have some positive social effect. It was a pretty ordinary night. As usual, he’d buy a drink for whichever girl he thought looked desperate enough and try to get something started.
As he sat at the bar waiting for a new prey to enter the club, his eyes were drawn to the main entrance, where he saw his next potential target enter. She was petite in stature, wearing a shimmering red dress and netted tights. Her eyes were a light ruby red, causing him to imagine that she used contact lenses. He made his way towards her, only to find that she was very ready to go for him, having offered him a drink first. After a short chat over martinis, she led him outside to the back alley where she pushed him against the wall. His first reaction was one of surprise as he didn’t that someone so small could be so strong.
“You pack quite a punch for someone so small,” he said flirtatiously.
“A girl like me has to know how to get what she wants,” she replied looking him in the eye.
“And exactly what would that be?” he asked.
“I like that bangle you’ve got,” she said, eyeing it lustfully.
She reached out to touch it. As her hand approached the little silver trinket, a sudden flash of light pushed her across the alley leaving her hand in flames. He looked in utter amazement, not understanding what was going on. There she lay screaming as the fire began to spread to the rest of her appendages. Suddenly a cloud of black smoke began to rise from her, causing the flames to subside. The smoke slowly began to collect itself into a solid substance. At this point he was outright terrified to see a naked pitch black female figure with bat wings, blood red eyes and horns protruding from her hair. He screamed in terror as she slowly began to approach him, her hands slowly changing into talons. He was sure that this was the end and began praying for forgiveness, thinking this was his own doing. She raised her arm ready to strike him as he sat curled up in fear. Then she slashed downwards to give the coup de grace, only to find out that it was ineffective. Undeterred she began attacking repeatedly, each time blocked by a strange wall of force.
Having noticed this, he took courage and stood up, noticing that the wall of force was expanding with his courage. He noticed that the sapphire on the bangle was starting to emit a faint light again like it did the first time he saw it. As the light grew stronger, he found himself on a field of ice. All he could see were trees covered in snow and snowflakes descending around him. As he looked to the sky, he was amazed to see the starlight bending in the air looking like curtains. At that same moment, he realised that in spite of that fact that it must have been freezing over there, he was feeling as warm as ever. In the distance he could see what looked like a human figure waving to him. As me braved his way across the field, he could see that the figure was doing the same. Driven by wonder and curiosity, he picked up his pace until they were both running towards each other.
Promptly, he could see the figure and begin to discern its nature. It looked like a human being. He was wearing a turquoise robe and his hair was deep blue, just reaching his shoulder. As he kept approaching, he could finally see his face. It was like looking in a mirror. The two stared at one another, until finally the figure began to speak.
“Blessed are the meek, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven,” the figure said, his voice soft and reassuring.
“Who are you? Where is this place?” he replied in concern.
The figure looked the boy straight in the eyes and began to smile.
“Always asking the wrong questions I see. I must bring it to your attention that you are in grave danger even as we speak. I shall explain it all to you later but now, it is most important that you tell me your name, so that I may tell you mine. Trust in the Lord your Saviour, and I shall come to you whenever you call me,” he replied taking him by the hand.
Taking a leap of faith and not seeing any other solution, he replied, “My name is Matt, Matthew Frost.”
The figure, looking ecstatic, replied, “And I am Glaciel- Virtue of Ice. Call on me in the Lord’s name and my power will be yours to wield, my friend.”
After hearing these words, Matt found himself back in a gruesome reality where it looked like a cross between a succubus and a rakshasas was attempting to have him for dinner. Trusting in what he just saw, something awakened inside him. His heart began to beat faster and his blood went cold. Holding his left arm with the bangle to the sky, he began to utter strange words he was hearing in his mind. Finally, he exclaimed, “Glaciel! Enter the Bangle!”
The air went cold as what looked like blue smoke began to appear and fly into the sapphire. Once all the smoke was collected into the sapphire, a blue orb of energy appeared on Matt’s hand. He placed the orb on his chest in began to push it into his chest, saying “Soul Drive, Empower!” Once the orb entered his chest, he was covered in what looked like mist, leaving the creature confused and seemingly frightened. As the mist cleared, it looked like Matt was no longer there. Indeed, he had been replaced by a new being, part human, part Virtue. His eyes glowed blue and wings of ice extended from the back of his shoulders. His old clothes were now adorned in blue ribbons that wrapped elegantly around him, making him look more ethereal than physical. This was no longer a one sided encounter and the creature, now trembling due to the intense temperature drop brought about by Matt’s metamorphosis, knew it.

The creature let out a shriek, and lunged with its talons only to find that they would become brittle and snap upon getting too close. The ribbons around the new angelic presence began to attack the creature like wild snakes, completely immobilising her. At that point, the empowered one’s shimmering wings spread refracting light onto the creature, causing it to burn.
With the danger gone, Matt collapsed. The blue smoke exited his body and reformed into the ethereal shape of Glaciel, who grabbed Matt before he could fall. Glaciel waved his hand over his face causing him to revive. Upon waking up, Matt was completely disoriented due to the rush of power. Upon coming to his senses he turned to his new angelic acquaintance.
“That was just too cool,” he said, swooning over the memory of what he had become.
Glaciel smiled back, nudging him in the direction of the fainted girl who was lying down in the corner of the alley.
“Isn’t there someone we should be taking care of?” he retorted ironically.
Upon noticing the young lady spread across the floor of the now cold alley, Matt began to panic, “Oh no! What can I do? I don’t know first aid!”
Clearing his throat, Glaciel replied sarcastically, “I don’t suppose the fact that I’m an angel might be of any help would it?”
Getting a little vexed, Matt replied, “You mean you can heal her?”
Glaciel solemnly replied, “No- We can.”

never heard of him. i just decided to write this book as a sort of Christian fantasy novel which pushes the envelope a bit. it's not candy coated or implicit in any way. The idea is to create a work for youths of our time to read and be able to relate with.
