I think one of the most amusing moments between Aslan and Jill is when Jill asks him:

"Do you eat girls?"

and Aslan says:

"I have swallowed up girls and boys, women and men, kings and emperors, cities and realms."

Obviously, he's not being literal, as a city really wouldn't taste very good. So what did he mean? I'm wondering if it might be something about how he is both a creator and destroyer of worlds ... like it could be said that he 'swallowed up' Charn, and Narnia eventually. Presumably, he reabsorbs the materials those worlds were made of. Anyone have any other theories?

Short answer: Aslan can do whatever he jolly well likes coz He be da boss! :)

Long answer: Yes. I do believe Aslan is referring to how he can end things as quickly as He starts them, and how He is the one always in control. Like it says in the Bible - the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. About reabsorbing all the materials of the worlds...I don't know about that, but He definitely is trying to show Jill that He is the be-all and end-all of all Creation.

I get this perverse mental image of Aslan wearing a "Clean Plate Club" bib, seated at an "All you can eat" Diner and licking his lips as the manager shoots himself in despair.

OMG! LOL.

Well let's put it this way. Does God eat girls?

After all, they are sugar and spice and everything nice.... :D

I think about a friend of mine who made a snide remark once about his rottweilers. I complimented him on their shiny, healthy coats. His reason:

"I'm not sure if it's the carbohydrates in the Girl Scout cookies or the protein in the Girl Scouts...." :p

I'm pretty sure he was kidding. But then again, he tended to wear his briefs on the OUTSIDE of his pants, so who knows?

I think furcoats is on the right track (and, no doubt, Magister Badger as well, though he insists on being a goof on principle :)!) I think Aslan was making a statement about His greatness and power, and that all things ultimately return to Him. Note He uses the verb "swallowed" (implying "taken into Himself") rather than "eaten" (implying "consumed and destroyed"). In a sense, Christ has "swallowed many" - He's certainly taken me into Himself! Problem is, I keep trying to scramble back out!

I agree...this whole swallowing up everything is absolutely symbolic...as my fellow Narnians above have just said, it is merely a display of Aslan's power.

i think it means, Aslan has got people into his world. Just like Jesus "swallows" up men, women and children. Basically they enter into his kingdom. i think that's the best way to explain what Aslan means. Basically that. :)

I hope that was clear.
