Hey just thought I'd share my story that I had been writing for awhile.
Let me know what you think of it :) BTW it taks place in Old Ireland (medieval era)

The Roscommon Betrayal
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a starry and peaceful night over the little town of Roscommon. All of the lads and lasses were asleep in their beds, dreaming softly, all except one. Robbie Gannon was rushing through a vast forest, stumbling as he went. He occasionally looked back, as if in there was some one trailing him. Missing a low stump, Robbie tripped and landed face down among all the twisted roots. Grunting in pain, he hurriedly picked himself up, & began moving again at a slightly slower pace. At a nearby tree, He slumped down against it and pull a few things from his torn vest, a candle, flint and map. Lighting the candle, he unfolded the map and glanced at it as best he could in the dim light. After making sure he was in the right direction, he folded it back up, and stuffed everything back intohis vest. Unslinging a water skin from his should, he took a large swig of cool water. Shoving it back, he stood up and continuedon his way. By this time it was getting quite near dawn, which only made him quiken his stride. As he finally departed the dark forest, he caught sight of his destination, O'Neill Castle. "At last" whispered Robbie as he took the view all in. At this point he was dreadfully tired and yearned to take a nap, but he knew he must complete his mission so he jumped onto the main road and began the long ascent up the path to the castle gates. Along the way, several villagers passed him with mule-pulled wagons full of produceand the sort, probably hurrying to set up a vendor to earn some profit. Upon arriving at the castle gate, Robbie found that the peacefullnes of the countryside had erupted into extremely loud noise. People all around were rushing this way and that, starting arguments over prices, children were running all around fighting with sticks or gettin scolded by parents. Nearby guards kept a close eye on the crowd maintaining order or at least trying. Oh how Robbie longed to close his eyes and depart from this noisey, hot place, but he pressed on in spite of this. Shoving his way through the crowd, he made his way to the castle hall entrance. Once there he was questioned by the captain of the guard. The captain eyed him suspiciously as he asked "What business do you have with the king?" "My business is my own" said Robbie tiredly. "Unless you provide enough reason that your busines is harmless, we will have reason to detain you" replied the captain as he brandished his sword and shield. He beckoned for the nearby guards to surround this sloven villager. "That will not be neccessary, captain." commanded a voice. Bewildered as to where the voice came from, the captain quikly turned to look.
Go for it. Consider something besides lighting a candle. One cannot light candles in the woods in medieval ireland without a non-existant phosphorous match.
Suggestion...a lantern. Open the lid to let light out, then close it. Even so, that's risky. Maybe it's a moonlight night?
