Most people have on here and no she does not :)

The "Green Witch" (or whatever you prefer to call her) is supposedly related to Jadis in some way. (She is in The Silver Chair.)

Well, Jadis is in the Pre-quel, The Magician's Nephew. And in The Silver Chair they say that The lady of the Green Kirtle came from the same race of northen peoples.

My cousin got the all-in-one volume for Christmas.
And I would personally still call it "Chronicles of Narnia"... :)

I have read all seven books at least once. I thought the Green Lady in the Silver chair was Jadis and if it is not how did she get there? She can't be a relative because jadis destroyed everyone from her world, which is seen in the MN

C'mon the magician's nephew is way up there with the LWW. is just that good. but hey its your opinion. IMHO i think the silver chair is just plain boring. i kept wanting to rush through the chapters but the fact that something interesting might happen kept me from doing that.

What's wrong with you people?!
If you read the books you would KNOW... Jadis died, but she was good to the dwarves (she didn't kill them as much cause many were loyal to her.) Later, when there was trouble brewing in narnia, the dwarves suggested that they RESSURECT HER.All of the good guys got mad at them.... But if you read you can tell the Emerald Witch is her, because the Dwarves brought her back with "black magic"!!!! Besides, how can you not see the similarities between "White Witch", and "Emerald Witch"?!

Exclamation marks and ellipses (singular: ellipsis; that's... one of those) do not an argument make. True, some of the dwarfs (don't use the Tolkien plural, the guys that Aule made are not the same as Narnian dwarfs) were for bringing Jadis's ghost back to help out against Miraz and the Telmarines, but that's not to say they intended to - or could - bring her back in bodily form. The Emerald Witch and the White Witch have some similarities, but that's not evidence enough to say they were one and the same.

I don't know that Lewis had clearly thought through the origins of Jadis or the Emerald Witch at the point when he wrote about them. "The Magician's Nephew" doesn't quite ring 100% consistent with the other books. And how Jadis came to have the right to the blood of traitors, enshrined in the Deep Magic from the Dawn of Time, when she was an outsider to Narnia in the first place, takes a bit of explaining. (We can get busy imagining, of course: God, whether in the person of Aslan or the Emperor-Over-Sea had foreknowledge that Jadis would enter the world, and would be "rewarded" for attacking Aslan by being given the post of traitor's bane.) But why worry? Enjoy the story and don't pick nits. Lewis didn't spend as long on his fantasy world as Tolkien did on his, and it shows, but there's plenty to enjoy anyway.

Nobody else might think so but i do.I think that the ending to the whole series is not a bad place to end ,but i wish they made one more book about their life in the new narnia.I think the end is too happy. But i still liked it.Well I have to do my dishes, blah.

There are entire threads on this topic, and the conclusion is always the same: there is no textual support for Jadis and the Emerald Witch being the same person. An editorial comment in some editions of one of the books makes that error, which partly accounts for the widespread confusion, but nothing in the books themselves supports this idea.

Wow, well laid out argument. I have been reading them for about 30 years now and have found frustration with that misleading connotation. I have Paul Ford's Companion to Narnia, which has thorough research on all things Narnian, and he draws similarities, but concurs that it is a different witch in SILVER CHAIR.

BTW: For those of you having difficulties with the books, ie boring, I struggled with Prince Caspian the first time I read them, but as I got older, I found each one better than the one before it. Much like the new Narnia.

Ok, I think, that we were all confused with BBC show The chronicles...coz same actrees played Jadis and Green Lady...they do say in The silver chair, at the end:

"...how a wicked witch (doubtless the same kind as that White witch who had brought the Great Winter on narnia long ago) had contrived a whole thing, first killing Rillians' mother, ..."

and after

"...And the lesson of it all is, your Highness", said the oldest Dwarf, "that those Northen Witches always mean the same thing, but in every age they have different plan for getting it."

That was from the The Silver chair, chapter 15, last page...

But now I wonder, what some1 mentioned...if Jadis destroyed every1 in the MN (by saying forbiden word) from where did the other witches come? Jadis hd a family, housband, lover...adopted...

I read them in first grade (i'm now 20 and reading them all again), Jadis does not come back in the form of another character, however, she is one of few characters in The Magician's Nephew, which is the prequel to the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and explains how Narnia and the Wardrobe itself came to be and came to rest in the 100-year winter LWW begins.

Jadis is also in the Magician's Nephew.

I've only read 2 ( Magician's Nephew and LWW) but this weekend am going to read at least two more. They are soo much easier reading than the LOTR trilogy which took me FOREVER to finish.

Jadis is related to the Green Witch? Interesting. I'm working on a historical fanfic about Jadis' background and childhood, and how she came to be such a strong willful woman. Am also working on what the forbidden word really was.

Next I have to find out a little more, if possible, about the race of the Jinns. I wonder if there will be anything more related to Jadis in any of the other five books I haven't read.

So I did! And then the trailer came out in theatres and I was like OMGsh, this looks so cool! And my dad was like, "we are going to see that! It looks good!" Yes I have but I did think that Prince Caspian and The voyage of the dawn Treader were slightly boring. But I love the Magician's Nephew of how Narnia came to life and how the wardrobe was made. But I also think that the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe is good to but I didn'tread that one first as it isn't the first book but it's the most famous that's why they have done the film first. I think they have done he right film first but I would ahve liked it if they did the Magician's Nephew first as it makes sense and follows on from the film they have just done. But I really enjoyed the film, but questionning if this film was actually better than the orignal BBC films.

I've read all of them several times. I began by listening to them - when I was a child my dad read us the whole set at least twice - and then when I was older, I read them for myself. I'd really recommend reading all of them! LWW is great, but you get a much better sense of Narnia as a world (and learn a lot more!) if you read all of them.

And yes, Jadis does show up again in The Magician's Nephew. (Perhaps I should say she shows up "before"!) I know MN is now considered the "prequel" to LWW, but I'm old-school and like to read them in the order Lewis wrote them.

I read the books when I was about 10 or so, but I didn't really get into them....just the LWW.

Now, I've just reread the LWW, Prince Caspian, the Magician's Nephew, and am part ways through the VDT. And loving every moment of each book!!!!!!!! Also I've been reading a CS Lewis bio called THE NARNIAN, and planning to read Mere Christianity, Surprised by Joy, and Screwtape Letters. So much reading, so little time!!

I find myself in agreement with you, IM. I've read the Chronicles through once, and I recently read through LWW, TMN and PC for the second time; and I have found that reading through them the second time has been a loving-every-moment-of-it experience for me, too. :)

POTW, I just finished that in record time. It seems like that book doesn't have as many young fans as LWW because as you said, it's more complex. But I enjoyed it, and I loved the Green Witch :D

ive read them all once, but after hearing how adamson treated the book when creating LWW, i want to read it again and instead of just reading the words, i want to start taking the paragraphs into more detail, skecthing out my thoughts on whats happning. turn c.s lewis's minimilist writing into a broader idea.

i know when i read the books, they seemed so sort, but looking back on em i feel like there was so much in there that i just didnt grasp right away since h wrote it so short.

so i plan to read them twice, once to create a larger idea for each story, a second time to read it through enjoyably as the thoughts and ideas are easily fabricated in my head. i dunno if that made sense to you guys, but i know what im getting at lol :D

Meg I totally agree. I've read my favorite books as much as a dozen times over the years, maybe more. And I plan to do the same with the Chronicles.

I just finished the LAST BATTLE so I am done with ALL OF THEM, at last. I had a lot of free time this week to read, so I read VOTDT, SC, and the LB in like, four days LOL.

Now that I'm done reading them all once, I will go back and read them a second time as well. I find that you can pick up a lot more of the meanings and symbolisms behind the book when you go back and read it again, and again. It's like watching a movie for the first time. There might be things in it you don't always understand, but if you go back and watch it again, if you feel it's worth reviewing, then you can get a better understanding of it.

The Last Battle made me cry at the end.

I've read every single one, and I love them all. I'm not really sure if she does come back, but I think that the Lady of the Green Kirtle (spelling?) is Jadis. Pretty much all of the evildoers in Narnia are ladies, so you'd think they were all Jadis.

The Last Battle made me cry at the end.

yea the last battle was rather sad, even though the ending its supposed to be somewhat happy.

i tend to reread things to pick up new finds, like in harry potter, there's a whole lot of foreshdaowing or mention of names of people who you learn more about later. as for movies...it took me 4 times of watching LWW to realize that edmund draws on that statues face and in the end the animal still has the markings lol :p

The Silver Chair doesn't seem to figure among a lot of people's favorites. I wonder why? That book was eerie to me...but certainly enjoyable just to read about someone like Jadis...the Green Kirtle Lady rocked in there! When and if they make a movie of the SC they better stretch out the battle scene between Prince Rilian and the Green Witch when she turns into that huge serpent thing.

I'm working on the Magician's Nephew again and reading the NARNIAN, a bio about CS Lewis, which really gives a lot of interesting insight into the Chronicles.

I've read them all twice. I still have to say LWW is my favorite, though each of them were great and had something completely unique about them. It's funny how every time I finished one, I almost felt sad, because there was something final and bittersweet about all of them. Especially the Last Battle.

LucyQueenofNarnia, that's a perfect word to describe many of the books...bittersweet. You were happy for the characters and yet sad that certain things also came to an end. Like when you know the Pevensies ( other than Susan of course) have made it into the New Narnia, you also are saddened by their deaths in the train wreck in the real world. That's what makes CS Lewis books so special though...that he's able to make his readers feel deeply and care about the characters he created.

Since there are so many fans of the Chronicles of Narnia Series, why do you suppose Disney started with the second book, chronologically? It is confusing to me as The Magician's Nephew (again, chronologically) comes before The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe.

Maybe it would conflict with the various theological creation stories?

Hi Wendy, I think that it's because the LWW was the most well-known of all the books rather than the Magician's Nephew. When I was a kid, for example, I had the Chronicles...and the number one book was the LWW, not the Magician's Nephew. I think they changed the order of it some time later. I am not sure that the MN would conflict with creation stories, because it only explains how Narnia came about ( by Aslan) and how the White Witch got there...it's sort of a preface to the LWW. But in some cases, I've also seen that book as the last book ( no 7 ) of the seven book series.

Yes, I heard it was not the first book written in the series by Mr. Lewis, but just thinking of the story line.

Maybe it is like Mr. Lucas with his Star Wars series – 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 . . .

Well, they're making the movies in the order CS Lewis published them. So LWW came first, and MN will be one of the very last, right before LB (and possibly before or after HHB, not quite sure about that one).

and I heard that they might not make HAHB.
