Yup - though she's never exactly named. She refers to herself as "The Lady of the Green Kirtle", the enchanted Prince Rilian refers to her as the Queen of Underland, and Puddleglum just calls her The Witch. Narnia fans conventionally refer to her as The Green Witch or the Emerald Witch.

Well, I think Tilda Swinton should, she did such a great job as Jadis, teh white witch, I would think that she could play the Emerald Witch (aka the Green Witch, its actually the Emerald Witch). I hope they come out with more movies!!! The first was so great, I cant wait til Caspian comes out!!

There is no arguing that Tilda would do such a great job at the part but she was the white witch and the White Witch and the Emerald Witch are not one in the same. Like with the BBC people automatically connected the two as one in the same and they are not. So as for Tilda I think, like I said before, she would do it so well but I don't think that they will recast her as the Emerald Witch especially if they are planning on making the MN.

It would be important to pick someone who can be enticing, charming, and yet still get the sense that the person is wicked. I would rather see some fresh play The Lady of Green Kirtle instead of Tilda. Live Tyler and Uma Therman would be intresting choices, since both are beautiful. However after seeing Uma in My Ex super girlfriend, I don't thin kshe has the falre for evil. Liv Tyler however is majestic, beautiful, and enticing, and yet she coudl be pictured as some one wicked. technically, since the GW is a throwback to the WW, she needs to act and somewhat look like her. not exactly like her, but some resemblance since she is of the same kind as the WW. I still think an unknown actress should be used because they're normally the best. I can't stand either Liv or Cate so that would just ruin the movie for me. she dies at the end of the story anyway; so I don't see why you'd have them in there. :rolleyes:

as others have said, that would confuse the audience if it was Tilda Swinton, because, and this has been pointed out as well, the WW and the GW are not the same exact person. the Green Witch is of the same kind as the WW. Meaning, they're not exact, but similar. Which also means, someone who can act similar to Tilda but not copy her performance; someone who's similar to her in appearance, but also different.

Tilda would just confuse the audience and if the filmmakers stay true to the spirit, they'll get someone who can pull off a very similar performance given by Tilda.

That idea has been gone over already a zillion times. The Green Witch is NOT supposed to be the exact same person as Jadis--despite the fact that the Russian translation of the Chronicles changed the text to say she was Jadis. The Green Witch ought to look younger even than Tilda Swinton is NOW; and by the time "Silver Chair" actually gets filmed, I'm afraid Tilda WILL have lost her looks.

How about having the Green Witch portrayed by the actress who played Inora in the TV series "Firefly"?

The problem with using Ms. Knightley is that she has already established herself as a tough-as-nails macho-woman. The Green Witch should APPEAR to be soft and sweet, so that for anyone not already knowing the story her true evil will come as a surprise. It's like when George Lucas was filming "Return of the Jedi": he considered casting Patrick McGoohan as Emperor Palpatine, but then he realized that anyone seeing Mr. McGoohan in that role would be EXPECTING the Emperor to turn out to be dangerous and powerful.

There are many great choices, but I think they will settle for unkown or not yet famous actress who is young, beautiful, and who has the charm of the Lady of the Green Kirtle.

I still think Nichole Kidman should play the Emerald Witch if she's not too young. Tilda doesnt look like the Emerald Witch, and nowhere in the books does it say the White Witch and the Emerald Witch are the Same Person.

Not only has she already played powerful-women roles, they have already been in a sci-fi/fanatsy setting (Knightly was also Padme's decoy in Star Wars Episode I). She also brilliantly played Elizabeth Bennet in teh 2005 Pride & Prejudice, and though Elizabeth isn't a "Grrrl-power girl" she's still a very strong character,

The same could be said for Natalie Portman. She is certainly very beutiful, but she has already played a touch girl as Padme, ( though Padme was a bit sweeter than Elizabeth Swann.) I'd favor Portman of Knightly by the virtue she always retains this "innocece" and "sweetness" if you will. I'm not just talking Star Wars but V for Vandetta, and The Other Bolyn Girl.

While some could make a similar claim with Liam Neeson playing Aslan, to Kierra Knightly being the Lady of the Green Kertle, the comparison is really apples to oranages. Liam Neeson is an older male actor. He even joked when Batman Begins came out that he, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman could ONLY be wise mentor figures as they are too old and ladies don't swoon over them.

I definitlys agree that The Lady of the Green Kertle should come off as sweet. I've already posted some of my ideas elsewhere, but at least when I've read the books I've always pictured the Green Witch being a bit like the angel Monica in the TV show Touched by an Angel. ( not sure if any one remembers that show.)

I had a funny thought when I saw the title of the thread. "I wonder who COULD play the Green Witch". Matter of factly, any actor or actress could have a dress made for them and play the Green Witch. It's more a matter of who SHOULD do it. :D

I'd prefere a mix of the first two. She should be sensual and seductive ( I picture it being akin to the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact when she is "tempting" Picard and Data) yet at the same time come off as innocent and kind. like the girl next door. She should capture Rilian's heart as Caspian's was captured by Ramandu's daughter ,except for the fact that where Caspian wasenchanted by the beuaty, Rillian was bewitched a la Ursula with Eric in the Little Mermaid.

I'd stay a way from making her a Jadis remix.They are two completly different villians. They are like Coke and Pepsi.
