Does anyone find these things kind of weird?

Mr. Tumnus tells Lucy of his fond memories of the time before the White Witch's rule. Jadis had already reigned for a hundred years before the Pevensies arrived...so that makes Tumnus over a hundred years old!
But thats understandable I suppose, maybe Narnian fauns are long lived like Tolkien's Dwarfs...

But then there's this...

How do the animals having Christmas Dinner or the Beavers aquire their food (Potatoes, vegetables, that sort of thing)?
Surely if there's been a 100 year winter, enchanted or not, surely nothing would grow?

I think the issue of food went unresolved in Narnia by Lewis. I guess we're not meant to think about such things!

I think we can chalk some of it up to magic. Come on, we have talking animals. At this point I am willing to believe Narnia might have had some remarkably resiliant plants.

also some theories on this site suggest that the witch controlled the food. eventually an underground network may have risen up.

and fauns can live to be quite old as can centaurs, unicorns, and other magical creatures. 100 years is no big deal.

well c.s.lewis probbaly neva thought about the food.its possible the white witch gave food to the creatures if they were loyal to her.

I'm not so sure that C.S. Lewis didn't think about food, I agree with the resiliant plants though. CS Lewis had to think about everything if he wanted his books to succeed.

1. It's very possible that Mr. Tumnus was over 100 years old.

2. The food listed was Beer (Can keep for a very long time.) Fish (Gotten from the pond.) I'm not sure about the potatoes though.

One thing to keep in mind, that it is a children's story.
It's more acceptable for things to not make sense in children's stories.

Ummmm....
I think any "creature" in Narnia could live more than 100 year.it's not a big deal for them.Right guys?

And for the food, they weren't ate food that have to grow in a field first right?(except potetoes maybe). In my mind, there was father xmas, and maybe he can give some food kind of potatoes...

I would have to say that is one of the things that we will never know. It shouldn't be dwelled upon, because every book has its loopholes.

But do you forget that Archenland, Calormene, Telmar, and the Wild Lands of the North were not under 100 yrs of winter? It was only Narnia, so I am very sure that the animals/humans would travel to Archenland or wherever.

yeah, but that opens up the whole debate on why didn't they all just leave Narnia and get away from the witch? i think lewis just left it open. It is a fantasy story after all.

True, true. But the White Witch COULD have allowed Calormene and Archenlander traders come into the country to bring the food and then go back out. She didn't have a desire to rule those countries, because if she did, she would have already taken them over in 100 yrs. She wanted Narnia because it was Aslan's "chosen" country and she wanted to overcome Aslan.
