View Full Version : Narnia or Middle Earth?

Both worlds of two brilliant authors are breath taking and magical. They pull us out of this world with such creativity; but which world would you rather live in? Would you rather visit the beatiful hobbit cottages of the Shire and visit the City of Kings (Minas Tirith) or would you prefer to sit and have tea with Mr. Tumnus and speak to the animals of Narnia?

Actually, in Tolkien's view, Middle Earth is our world, in the distant past, so it would be more a question of going "back then". ("Middle earth" is a medieval term for our world: in the middle between heaven and hell.)

Hard choice. I think I'd go for Narnia, primarily because the Shire is off limits to men by decree of King Elessar! Still, the prospect of Rohan is pretty alluring, and "Gondor, between the mountains and the sea!"

Since I have a great love of horses and King Theoden is my favorite book character of all time, I'd have to say I'd much rather live in Rohan. Or possibly Rivendell because that's what I think Heaven will be like.
Besides, the descriptions Tolkien provides for the places within Middle-Earth are so much more vivid to the mind, it makes it easier to visualize. My choice will probablly always be Middle-Earth over Narnia.

Oooh I don't know. I wouldn't mind living in Rivendall or somewhere like that in Middle Earth but I'm not sure about Narnia. There don't seem to be any established cities or villages where we can live! (well not until Prince Caspian)

I would live in Rohan(see user name), but I could vacation to Gondor and visit my ole pals Aragorn and Arwen. Or even go visit the empty Rivendell.[FONT=Arial]

It would be awesome to be in both, but I voted Narnia!
I'm an animal lover, so it just would make more sense to be able to live in a time where I can converse with animals.:) - particularly Reepicheep, and Glimfeather because they are both hilarious!

Elastigirl, I LOVE that picture of Jadis you have in your signature! That is awesome!

I would prefer to visit Middle-earth, simply because there is so much more to see and such ancient history that one has learned thanks to the great imagination of J.R.R. Tolkien. I would truly love to visit Minas Anor, Orthanc, Edoras, Mithlond, etc. But I do get to visit them quite often through the use of my own imagination, and that will do plenty for now. :)

This is an easy one, I would rather be in Narnia. Middle Earth is always in a state of war, and a rather dangerous place to be roaming about. Except for brief periods of time, Narnia was a very peaceful place, and fairly (though not completely) safe to explore. Much more variety of creatures in Narina to make friends with then in Middle Earth, most of whom you rather not want to meet to begin with.

ag! middle earth boring, not that many races?? hm... i admit that narnia has quite a lot of them, most of which are animals?.. in the lotr there might not be that many, but in the whole of middle earth... uve got valar, istari, elves, men, dwarves, hobbits, dunidain, mayar, eru, (not a race.. heh..) spiders, gobins and orcs (which are tortured elves... :( ) ents.... dragons..... ect... there arnt really that many bad peoples.. even from above listing, only 4 o those are 'bad' (not that a few o the others might not be bad...).. anyway.. yea. there are quite a few races, not that a high # races is nessesary to make somthing good.... yea? do u follow, or am i rambling? Middle Earth! Definately!! And then I would choose Hobbitton. I love to visit Rivendell and Lothlorien. And it would be an honor to meet Galadriel.
Both worlds are amazing. And as far as evil goes, I think evil is not only in ME. In Narnia there is also evil. In both books there is eil from the beginning. Iluvatar created ME and there was Melkor who became jealous and we all know what he did. And in Narnia, there was Jadis who was there from the beginning and she was evil too. I believe in every book or world, you have good vs evil. But back to the topic....Yes, I would love to walk through ME.

Elves (more elvish races are mentioned when you read the Silmarillion)
Dwarfs
Hobbits (Yeah!!!) (but also more than one race of periannath are mentioned)
Men (many different races here also)
Orcs (Hahahaha, how many Orcs are left???)
Trolls
Spiders (Shelob was I believe the last giant spider)
Eagles (weren't they a famous band also?)

Well, look at Middle Earth after Aragorn gets to be king! Things are pretty peaceful for a looooong time. The hobbits are happy, the men are happy, the elves.....well the elves leave, but I guess you could call them semi-happy at least. Middle Earth looks a lot prettier than Narnia. And I'm more attached to the characters, and how the places are described in the books.I think I'd go to Middle Earth just a little before the Lord of the Rings, be escorted around by Tom Bombadil, since nothing in Middle Earth, not even the ring, bothers him. Then I'd stick around with Aragorn, as the Fellowship goes there merry way, because nothing really happens bad to Aragorn, and he'll take out ANY amount of orcs or WHATEVER to get his kingdom back and marry Arwen. So if I just stick by him, he'll protect me from whatever thing is out for my blood. Then I'd hang with Eowyn in Rohan until the Helms Deep thing blew over (Perhaps using my bow from Galadriel -a girl can dream!-on a couple of orcs along the way). Then I'd either get my courage up to charge with the Rohirrim, or kind of chicken out, and go with Pippin and Gandalf to Minas Tirith and get to hang with the ever sweet and lovable Faramir (sigh... More dreaming) and his ever insane and rude father, Denethor, until Aragorn came in and saved the city. Then I'd probably hang out with the houses of healing people until the last battle was over, but I'd ride out on an eagle to greet the poor hobbits once they were done tossing the ring in Mount Doom. Then I'd just stick around with the Fellowship, and maybe I'd find a nice man from Gondor or Rohan to marry, or maybe a nice elf who wanted to stick around Middle Earth. Anyway, that's why I'd like to go to Middle Earth. It's what I've dreamed about ever since I read the books.

The characters, the epic adventures, all of the different cultures and diversities are just so mind-blowing. Ah....my imagination is going loopy right now! well, i was first introduced to narnia when i was in the 3rd grade, and i was first introduced to middle earth when the fellowship came out in theaters ( :o ). so i think it's very obvious where this is going! ya know?

well, i've said before (although i love narnia with every breath in my body, does that sound weird? hmmm...) The Return of the king is the greatest movie of all time, but if it came to the books, Narnia sweeps in every cataogry. ya know?

now, if it came to where i would most like to visit? it's a very hard decision. ya know? there's the animals and the pure goodness of the land in Narnia, but there's the elves and the wonderfull (not that Narnia doesn't have landscape) landscape of middle earth. it really comes down to what you love the most and in this case i have to say i would most want to be in Narnia! (although, middle earth does have pretty elves (liv) ya know?). i say Narnia because i would kill to visit Cair Paravel (i can't believe i dunno how to spell that, well it's late) and just everything else i can think of. ya know?

peace and love

LOTR is something magical. It is a world in which you get lost so easily and never want to return to real world.
Maybe it's the way Tolkien has written the story. But Narnia is definitly worth to buy a summerhouse. A winterhouse in ME and a summerhouse in Narnia.
