Hey everyone,
So I wanted to let everyone know about a great movie that is coming out. ITs called The End of The Spear and its about Nate Elliot and four other missionaries who went to witness to the Woarabi (I think thats right) tribe. This tribe was considered one of the most violent and bloodthirsty tribes in the world. The tribesmen waved at them in a friendly manner and so the missionaries landed. The tribesmen instantly and brutally killed them all. All they were trying to do was share the message of God's amazing grace. Exactly one year later, the wives of each murdered missionary returned to the jungle and began to work again to reach the people. They succeeded eventually and the tribe is now completely peaceful and has been spreading churches and God's word throughout their country. The movie is holding true to this by showing the courage of these men and women. It is being released in limited release and if it does well, will be expanded to other theaters. Everyone please go see this movie. The world needs more movies with good stories, especially after seeing the recent award show nominations.

I will caution that it is PG-13 for heavy violence, so adults and mature teens should go and spread the word to others of the same age. Parents just use caution before taking your kid.

Also, on Steven Curtis Chapman's album "Speechless" the fourth song is about the changed lives of this tribe and at the end of the song is a tribal chant by one of the only living members of the tribe who was alive then. The man was one of the murderers and today he is their pastor.

How awesome is that?!

Hey! I got beat to posting a thread about this...but I don't mind one bit! I am definately going to see this film on Friday. Here's the film site, go see the trailer! It's awesome!

My parents are missionaries in the Philippines and I was born and raised there, so this story is dear to my heart in the way that I can understand it. So please, everyone (unless you're younger than 14), go see this movie!

i've seen the preveiws to this movie and it looks really good and one of the sons of the men that died was on a local christian radio station just this friday morning and he preached about how these people changed their lives and all.
Im hoping to see it soon. I think it comes out on the 20th or something.

The story is amazing -- the forgiveness shown by the families of the murdered missionaries is a real testimony to God's power to heal. They went back to the tribe that murdered their husband and brother, and raised their own families there -- the children of one of the murdered men eventually came to know one of the murderers as grandfather. it should be a very excting movie with a very inspirational message.

hey thanks, timmyofoz. i realized after i signed off last night that i combined two of the missionaries into one name. I tend to do that since Jim Elliot is the more well known name but Nate Saint was my favorite. Thanks for fixing that.

It is sad that I hear the movie will probably only be out for just a week or two in the theaters here in the US and isn't showing at all in Canada. Unless we all see it and it makes some money for the theaters. :(

I'm a big fan of Mrs. Elliot (Mrs. Gren, now I believe) Her radio show she used to be on and her incredible books have really had an impact on my life, so I will probrably go see the movie.

yes, this is definitely a movie that needs support to continue to be played. so if you live in a town where it is playing go see it and take your friends. Apparently the company that produces them is much like Walden Media in that they want to produce quality films. This one however is hoping to produce more like this that tell the stories of the saints and martyrs. So please, please, please go see it right away. Lets prove to Hollywood that the world does want quality movies.

I saw this movie today in a mobbed theater. Wanted to see it Friday night, but the showings were sold out. Don't miss it! It was better then what I expected. Don't pay any attention to the newspaper movie reviewers, there are plenty who don't like movies which portray Christianity in a good light, much less Christian missionaries. Read the reviews of the people who paid to see this movie instead.
If the theme of forgiveness is what captured your heart in the Narnia movie, you will love this movie as well.

I just saw it last night. This movie is phenomenal. The message of Christ is there. Maybe not as strong as I might like but it opens up the opportunity to witness so well. I don't usually cry in most movies but I was bawling in this one. It is extremely well done and very moving. I highly recommend it.

End of the Spear opened up at number 8. not bad for a limited release film and a "Christian" one. Maybe now Hollywood will start realizing people want quality not quantity.

The reason why I'm not going to watch it is because of violence...I can't stand violence or gore in any shape or form! *shudders* I actually leave the room or fast forward during the fight scenes in LOTR and POTC. :o
I'm sure End of the Spear is awesome, but I don't think I could handle it.....

it wasn't as bad as I expected. They don't show all that much. But if it bothers you I'd wait until it can be rented so you can take your time watching it.

I saw the movie tonight. It is hard to follow because most of it is captioned with sub-titles. I still cried along with my date though. There is a scene with angels that is very touching. I will have to get the DVD later to get more from it. Definitely worth your support. :)

I thought the movie was superb!!!! I might dare to say that I liked it better than Narnia! It made me cry, in several places too! The acting and emotions on part of the native Embra and the rest of the cast was terrific. I've grown up hearing about this story and I've read lots of books on it, but it was never quite real to me until I saw the film last night. See, I'm a missionary kid, so I can identify with the missionary families. A very close missionary uncle of mine was killed 3 years ago, so this movie hit hard to home. But I loved it!

From everything I have heard this should be an excellent movie. I just wish I could find a theatre that's closer to me that's showing it. Right now I think that only the biggest theatres have made room for showing it.

It's a shame that movies like Big Momma's House 2 will get shown in more theatres than a truly inspiring movie like End of the Spear, but that's a rant for another day.

So far it has made $8 million out of the $10 million production. I hope it gets out of the red before it leaves the theaters. It really does deserve the support.

I went to see the End of the Spear the other day and it was so... Gut wrentching, no mascara wearing, pillow hugging, tear jerking, GOOD!!! I was so moved and captured by the story of these faithful missionarys who gave their lives trying to help the Waidoni (sp) and about their families who WENT BACK to the people who murdered their husbands/fathers and won them to Christ!!! It was a compelling story and VERY well done but so many "Christian Peaopl" Have either refused to see it, or gone in with a sorry attitude because the ACTOR who plays the main character is gay!!!

I'm sorry but this is TOTALLY naive and VERY immature... that these people believe that our God is SO big and perfect but not big or perfect enough to use a homosexual to His will?
How ignorant is that!

Not only is there thrashing and belittling of the movie but the people who went and saw and enjoyed the movie!!! Umm... hello the Bible talks about judgement!!!
This makes me SO mad!!!
Anyone else?

I agree completely Willsgirl. My school went to see the movie as a field trip (Christian school) and some of the kids didn't go because their parents wouldn't allow them to watch a movie with a gay actor. They missed a great movie because their parents were so judgmental.

Anyways, if the movie is still playing in theaters, I encourage everyone to go see it. Nate Saint's son, Steve Saint (I think that's right..), came to speak at our school way back in November and it was very moving. The movie starts out slow (I was grumbling because the Seniors got to go see Narnia  ) but it soon had me near tears.

There was one part I didn't understand though- Why was the man who was lying in the grave in that rainy scene demanding his baby boy be buried with him? Anyone have an explanation?

I think it was some Waidoni tradition or something, I dont know though, thats just what I thought from the movie.....

OH my gosh! the actor was gay?!.....that is sad, but even if I had known that before It WOULD NOT HAVE STOPPED ME FROM SEEING THE MOVIE!

something that made me cry really hard, beside the story which was so sweetly sad and wonderful, was the main actor looked almost exactly like my brother! who I have not seen since the end of DEC. And it made me so sad, the movie was so awesome, and I agree, God can use anybody to do his will, ANYBODY ........you know what I THINK is cool, is that the gay man played in a christian film, I mean I dont think that a gay man can be a christian,.....like not even in their own eyes.....whatever I am rambling.....so anyway....the movie totally rocked!

when we walked out I said 'Dad, can you get that for me for x-mas, or my b-day?' he said he'd think about it!

Yes, the actor who played Nate Saint is gay. He has acted in a lot of TV shows and the producers of the Movie wanted at least on professional actor. This problem occured in Chariots of Fire back in the 80's because one of the actors was gay also. Both movies are still worth seeing. I would have prefered an actor who could have identified with the part more and thus had been more able to be a spokes person for the ideals of the movie. It may have helped also in getting a better return for the movie at the box office. So I do feel it was a mistake to cast Chad Allen for the part.

The Waidoni (sp) believed that when you die you have to jump the great Boa, and that was crossing over to the ofter life. If you were not strong enough to Jump the great boa you came back to earth as a termite and that was below anything else.
The Waidoni did NOT think that children were strong enough to jump the great boa and if the Dad was dying he would often ask his son or daughter to be killed and burried with him so he could help them jump the great boa. Does that make sence?

I'm a VERY compassionate person... I cried at this movie as hard as I did when I saw Hotel Rwanda.
It just got be all choked up... expecially when they are watching the film that Nate had made right before the masacre and then that girl recognizes her family and she's all excited until she realizes what they had done! It was SO sad!!!

yeah that was so soo sad!! I felt so bad for Duyumae! But she had a great line (it made me laugh, my sides hurt, then I cried again) 'You look like a man, but you dont fool me, you are (name? forgot his name...)' ok excpet forgeting the name I love that line!

The boycot was insane. Just because one of the actors is gay doesn't disqualify the quality of the film and the message. My church encouraged us to see it and Calvery Chapel isn't pro-gay.
