hey fellow Narnia fans.

um, I have a question. does any of you know What the "Deplorable Word" is? did CS Lewis ever tell his readers in one of the books what it is? (I've only read the Magician's Nephew so far.)

thanks!

I know - but I can't say it (or, at least, you don't want me to...)

Just kidding - no, Lewis never tells us what the Deplorable Word is. It's a good guess that it wouldn't work anywhere but Charn anyway - Jadis' other magic didn't work in our world.

He didn't use it, I always figured it was becasue that nothing that he could imagine as the worst or, most wicked word possible would ever come of nearly as bad to us as what we could imagine in our own minds. Just like horror novels are scarier than most Horror movies because you come up with the scary images yourself.

Perhaps if it didn't work in our world it could be something that we find really trivial - how funny would that be?

I think asparagus may be the deplorable word.
