My dear forum friends:

Urgent and immediate prayer is needed. We are good friends with a missionary family whose daughter Karis has suffered from a congentital intenstinal condition her entire life (details here (http://www.aup.org/karis/index.htm)). About a year and a half ago she got an intestinal transplant which her system rejected, and she's lived on the edge of death since then (story here (http://www.aup.org/karis/latest_update.htm)).

Last night the call came that transplant organs were available, and just today (10 Jan 2006) at about noon, it was confirmed that they were a match. Karis is going into surgery immediately. Please pray that her system accepts the organs and she is able to recover completely without complications.

This is it for Karis: either this transplant works or she dies. Since they have to transplant her liver as well, if her body rejects it - well, there's no living without a liver. Please pray that God would have mercy.

In Christ

Oh wow, there was a boy at my old school that had a problem with his liver, and it wasn't funny at all. I will pray that God will touch her and that he will give her another chance at life.

Karis is doing surprisingly well after her full visceral transplant - in fact, recovering more quickly after this, her second, than she did after her first transplant. You can read details here (http://www.aup.org/karis/latest_update.htm). There was a bit of a scare last night, but it turned out to be nothing. The next six to eight weeks will be the vital time, so please keep prayers coming!

My heart and prayers to all the other posters in this forum. I have trouble keeping up with them all, but as I read them, I say short prayers (equally effective) for all the needs. God bless you all!

That's wonderful to hear, and certainly an answer to prayer. We will keep them coming, and hopefully it's God's will that she recovers.

Will your missionary friends have to stay in the States for a bit while she recovers? My family had to live in the States while my parents had surgery and recovered. It was quite a hassle! I'll be praying for her continued recovery!

Some of them have actually been in the States for some time, though Karis did have a chance for a one-month visit back "home" to Brazil in the summer of 2005. The kids are mostly grown, so there's lots of rotating people around to cover her. She needs lots of care!

She's currently undergoing the typical aftereffects of a transplant, but the transplanted organs all seem to be working! But they're not out of the woods yet - it was about at this point in the last recovery when she came down with pneumonia which nearly killed her, so please continue to pray!

Oh I see...
What's her last name (you can PM me that if you want)? My parents might know her or her family, or know other missionaries that know her. We moved back to the States in June and are still getting adjusted even though it's been several months!
