THE HORSE & HIS BOY!!!
All the way..
I love them all but I just love the subtlety of this book. The fact that it is a snapshot of the Pevensie rule, I like it. It is snugly placed, chronologically, before the end of LWW and before the beginning of PC, because of this, I find it fascinating. It is the only book which doesnt have children falling into Narnia, it is set completely in Narnia, and the culture, adventure and mystery which unravells is truly fantastic.. As i say, i do love them all, but the way that this is so different to the linear style of LWW and the others is brilliant! :)

you're right it is really different from the other books, maybe that's why it's my least favorite (i don't say that i don't like it)
i just love the storys whit the pevensie-children in it. Eustace and jill are great to, and so are digory and polly, but Peter, Susan Edmund and Lucy just make it "real" Narnia to me (can't help it:))

My favorite Narnia Chronicle is The Horse and His Boy. It is also my favorite to listen to on Focus on the Family Radio Theatre version.
My least favorite is either The Silver Chair, because it always struck me as having a "going nowhere" plot, though I love the Puddleglum character. I also have a distaste for The Last Battle. To this day, I cannot resolve Lewis' depiction of Emeth. It just doesn't hold theological water that a dynamic worshipper of another God would actually be worshipping Christ.
But anyway, let's not address that already ironed-out issue in this thread.

I think without a doubt the best narnia book is the next to get the silver screen experience, that's right my best is Prince Caspian. I love that book. In fact it's not only my fav. narnia book it's my fav. book ever.

The Horse and His Boy was my first Narnia book, then Prince Caspian then I read all the books in order. For me it's a toss up between Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair.

I really liked The Silver Chair. I was shocked when I discoverd the White Witch was back in another form. But how did she come back anyway.........

I would have to say, as sad as it is to choose from the best book series upon the face of Earth, well...I'm going with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. It was the first published and the book that introduced me to magical worlds and whatnot. Ever since, it's been almost strictly fantasy for this girl!

I really liked The Silver Chair. I was shocked when I discoverd the White Witch was back in another form. But how did she come back anyway.........
She actually wasn't back in another form, the Lady of the Green Kirtle was just of the same kind as the White Witch. At the end of chapter 16, Lewis says this,
"And now they all saw what it meant; how a wicked Witch (doubtless the same kind as that White Witch who had brought the Great Winter on Narnia long ago) had contrived the whole thing, first killing Rillian's mother and enchanting Rillian himself."
So it wasn't like the White Witch was re-incarnated or anything, it was just that she was related to her in some way.
For me, it is extremely difficult to choose a favourite book, becuase they are all soooo good. But if you had to corner me and force me to choose, I would have to say a tie between Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Last Battle. In my opinion, those two have some of the richest theology and storytelling of any literature I've ever read.

Pardon me for answering this way, but C.S. Lewis mentioned the best of the Narnia stories and I take his word for it:
But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.
When I was four years old, C.S. ("Jack") Lewis turned to page one. One day, in God's good time, I will join him there. Love you, Jack; bear it well Son of Adam. Till then, I think my favorite is LWW.

So it wasn't like the White Witch was re-incarnated or anything, it was just that she was related to her in some way. Not to mention that the same actress, Barbara Kellerman, played both roles in the BBC series. That would seem to imply that the adapter felt there was an important connection between the two...or it could just mean they were lazy in casting. ;)
Its hard to say which Narnia book is my favourite, as I enjoy them for different reasons. The Last Battle is fascinating because its so blatantly religious, the last chapters in particular almost reading like a sermon rather than a children's fantasy novel. However, its certainly not one which has a place in my heart, merely a book that engages my mind. :)
If I was being sentimental, then I'd plump for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, as that has the most associations for me due to the 1979 animation and 1988 BBC film (the new film is obviously a bit too recent to get nostalgia kudos), along with being the first one I read (I think; can't be completely certain, it may have been The Magicians Nephew if I got them in a box set, but I seem to remember buying them individually).
However, as an adult, it would be a toss-up between The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair, because my favourite protagonist (in fact, the only human in all the books that interests me) is Eustace. He is probably the closest Lewis gets to a secular character, though he heavily criticises 'Experiment House' due to its lack of religious teaching. While The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair have some religious aspects, unlike The Last Battle, the interpretative possibilities are much broader, so it doesn't feel like the author is shoving Christianity down your throat.

If I HAVE to vote for only one, I'm gonna go with Magician's Nephew - because I've read the book over and over, and have practically worn out my BBC audio tape version. :p
My other 2 top favorites are Horse and His Boy, and Last Battle.
...And I agree with Son Of Aslan: Horse and His Boy is definitely my favorite to listen to of the Focus on the Family radio theatre...
I get goosebumps every time that it's the part where Aslan (the Large Voice) and Shasta are talking in the mist of the mountain pass, and Aslan says one of my most favorite lines of all the books:
"I was the lion. I was the lion who forced you to join with Aravis. I was the cat who comforted you among the houses of the dead. I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept. I was the lion who gave the Horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you should reach King Lune in time. And I..was...the lion...you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you."

.
I think the main thing that people overlook so often is that the witch depicts a demon of some sort or even satin himself. My point is that in the LWW Aslan doses not necessarily “kill" the witch but he defeats her as Jesus did on the cross. She is not reincarnated or raised form the dead but she takes on many different forms throughout the Narnia series depicting the evil that is inevitably there
My fav would have to be LB and MN in that order. However I would have to agree with The Large Voice that the radio drama of HHB is the best.

there is no book in the world better than the VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER!
it is amazing. out of all the books it is probably the most adult-type book. the imagery the plot and the adventure are phenomenal;
i also LOVE THE HORSE AND HIS BOY because it has this whole exotic- arabian nights theme which i love. also i love the whole calormene culture and how they are always quoting 'the poets'.

"The Last Battle"
I found it very hard to read since most of the story is quite dark, but that's why I found it especially appealing. It wasn't a typical mushy predictable fantasy story; it actually invoked emotions and left me awed. This was one of the two Narnia books I read in one day; I just couldn’t put it down!
The ending is debateable but I found it to be a happy ending. I would have hated if the children had to go back to earth and Lewis ended it with "and maybe, one day, you'll find Narnia too", which is what I expected.
Although this is, IMO, the best book I doubt I will reread it again for a long time. I enjoy reliving the innocence of the other books in the series and I must admit that reading ‘The Last Battle’ made me depressed since it was the end of Narnia and a wonderful series.
2nd favourite: Prince Caspian
3rd: Silver Chair
