Right. I made a thread like this months back and the only responses I got was that people didn't know about it or weren't particularly that bothered about the game.

So, now that there are 2000 extra members, I'm hoping that I might find someone with whom I can discuss this PC game, which is like the one thing I'm more obsessed about than Narnia!!!

Please let someone else love this game like me. If not I'll just talk to myself about it...

I've never heard of the thing. what's it about, other than monkeys on an island?

Ah well. As I said, if no one else was particularly bothered I'd talk about it with myself.

Well I really like CMI best, it was the one I played first and I just think everything about it is great. What are other peoples thoughts?

Monkey Island was absolutely fantastic! Guybrush Threepwood is a magnificent comic creation, with a multitude of excellent puns and jokes peppered throughout - for example, the fearsome sounding Captain Dread turning out to be so-called due to his hairstyle. :)

I've loved the games since I first played Monkey Island 2 on my Amiga years ago - most of the people on this forum are too young to have owned the original Monkey Island, released in 1990 (when you were two year old, waterhogboy... ;) ), or the sequel I had from 1992, but the UAE emulator is one way of experiencing the classics today.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone else who loves it!!!!!!!! get in!!!

Yeh I started with CMI in 97, then got EMI in 01, and then decided to get the original two after that. I cant wait for number 5 to come out, but apparently they havent even started it yet! :(

What were you playing them on? A PC, or perhaps like me, an Amiga? I've always had trouble getting older games to work as the hardware became too advanced for compatibility; hence the joys of emulators. :)

Nostalgia seems to be the driving force in the kind of games I enjoy, so I'm glad my computer from undergraduate first year back in 1999 is still functional; there are a number of older PC games it can run that don't seem to get along with faster models.

My husband loves the Monkey Island games.

I however, prefer Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. Especially Grim Fandango.

Monkey Island is the only point-and-click game I ever really enjoyed, though admittedly I haven't tried too many. I tend to get bored with other examples of the genre; none of them seem to have the same consistently entertaining wit of Monkey Island. Matter of taste, of course.

Have you ever tried Simon the Sorceror? I love him even more than Guybrush, and that's definitely saying something. He's a nastier, more sarcastic wee chap, but the games are every bit as good, or better. Plus, the second one is called "The Lion, the Wizard, and the Wardrobe".

Its something I remember from Amiga Power magazines of the time, but I never actually played it. Like Lure of the Temptress, which I have played, I remember it getting rather good reviews; however, not usually being a fan of point-and-click, I never tried it (suffice to say, I got bored of Temptress too ;) ).

My genre has always been RPG - if I can't create my own character, I get very upset. Monkey Island was a rare exception.

monkey island is awesome (love guybrush!), i played one of them... escape from monkey island, i believe... the adventure-puzzle genre is my favorite (the sims being an exception...) i also played grim fandango, but found that the dominance of black and white and the flushed-out look in the scenes did not appeal to me...

My fave is definitely Curse of Monkey Island. It was the one I started on, but I think it has best graphics, music, storyline, characters and overall atmosphere. I dislike 4 the most....

My favourite is definitely Monkey Island 2: Le Chuck's Revenge, but like others thats mainly because its the first one I played. I'm don't think I've ever actually tried 4, but I do remember going through the third one and being slightly irritated by the shift in graphical style.

Definitely don't like the look of number 4!

I'm very much a retro-gamer, which is why I love emulators - I was a real computer geek until about 7 years ago or so, and my taste really hasn't moved on; Bards Tale and Amberstar remain two of my favourite games ever ;) . Although there is the odd 'new' game I enjoy, like that X-Men thingy for the Xbox.

I played Kings Quest V back in the day, but it wasn't especially thrilling. I liked the fantasy setting, but the fact that all I can remember about it is a chicken (or some kind of bird - think it might be the one in the below screenshot, which looks more like an owl) would seem to imply it wasn't all that memorable. :p

Yeh - I was a bit dissapointed with the Monkey 4 graphics, but I loved the Monkey 3 ones. Probably like you say cos it was the first one i played. However, I did think Guybrush was overly tall!!! And his hands annoy me.....he was a big gap between two of his fingers!!

So - when do you think 5'll be out?

Haha!!! The thread dredger strikes again. Thought I'd bring this one back and find any new members who love this series and want to discuss it!!
