What's Your Favorite Of The Chronicles?

My favorite is Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Partly because of the end of the world theme. But also because of Reepicheep. Here's my list of favorites in order.

1. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
2. The Silver Chair
3. The Magician's Nephew
4. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
5. Prince Caspian
6. The Horse and His Boy
7. The Last Battle

I was wondering when someone would start this thread. My favorite has always been The Horse and His Boy.

By the way, I appreciate you listing the books in the order that they were written, NOT chronologically (it always irritated me to see the Magician's Nephew put first, then LWW, and then Horse and His Boy, etc). :)

I'ld have to agree with Capstick, The Horse and his Boy has always been my favorite. (But then again there a few little girls who aren't enchanted by the idea of a talking horse at one point or another)

My favorite character, however, has always been Reepicheep, so Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a close second.

I changed my mind. "The Last Battle" is my least favorite. Not because it's the most inferior. The reason is because when my father first read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" to me and continued to read the books one by one, I was praying every night that I wasn't too old to go to Narnia and that I would be whisked away at any minute. But when Papa read "The Last Battle" I knew then that Narnia was no more and that I would not be visiting in this lifetime. In other words, my whole world came tumbling down!

yeah, i voted for HHB though i have two favorates. ''HHB & MN'' last battle has been a enimy of mine too. gets me real depressed. :(

Last Batttle is definiatly the most depressing, not to mention I have some theoligical problems with it. (Though still a really good book)

There was a thread like this before, but I don't know where it went. I voted for MN, just because it was the first one I read and sentimental value and all that. I also really like flying horses.

6 The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Again, like most of you, it's not because I don't like the last several, it's just that I really like the first several. Eustace and Puddleglum are about my favorite characters, and I also really like the idea of the Dragon Eustace and how he becomes "undragoned" (as Edmund eloquently puts it).

As far as the order of reading them, I tend to read them chronologically. It doesn't bother me seeing them listed either way. (I remember reading a quote from CS Lewis that he prefered the chronological way) That being said, I believe that the best way to read them for the first time is in published order.

I am having a beast of time choosing! They are all special in there own way.., although i'm not sure if a agree with peoples views on the LB - it's up there in my top 3 i think - it is a shame that the narnian world ended but then,as a child at least, it gave great scope for imagining what would happen after. Oh i just don't know, SC, VDT, LB ..... HELP!!!

the last 4 i've never read. but for all but the Last Battle, i've seen the movies. and from what my friends say about the Last Battle, i AM going to like it. i'm still on the Horse and His Boy. i'm reading them in chronological(sp?) order.

I have to put them all to be equal. I can't rate them. Each one has that moment that just makes you smile really big. My favorite chapter is X in PC (see my second reply in the "who do you want as the voice of Aslan" thread for the reason why). LB is the one that has evoked the most emotion from me, though. I didn't cry, but boy was I happy/sad.

Everyone loves LWW - probably because it was the first one everyone read, or was subjected to on the telly! :-)

I feel so out of it because I have only read The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe, myself. And saw the BBC production. Next should be what? The Magician's Nephew?

Well, that all depends on which way you decied to read them. I myself have read them in this order:

The Magician's Nephew
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
The Horse and His Boy
Prince Caspian
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The Silver Chair
The Last Battle


Or, most people I know have read them in the publication order. From '50 to '56. Which would be this order:


The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Prince Caspian
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The Silver Chair
The Horse and His Boy
The Magician's Nephew
The Last Battle



Some say different things about each order. But it's up to you. Or you could just make up your own order.

I like the way I read them because I feel like I got more out of the story than people that read them in pub order.

I like them all but I said VDT because thats the one were it gets closest to acually calling Aslan, Jesus. I really like them all though and i don't understand what it is about LB that you don't like because thats one of my favorites.

LWW is a classic. I like PC too, because i read LWW and i thought it was the only one, but like 5 years later i was like, WHAT!?! THERES MORE!?!?! and i read PC first. my return to narnia was so happy. :D

I love MN and LB the beginning and ending of a world. I love the imagery and they, perhaps since they were the last written, have a perfected writing style in comparison to the others. I cannot clearly express why I love them so much, but they, in my humble opinion, surpass the others by far.

I loved reading the whole sort of 'reunion' of the 4 Pevensies and Narnia. It had so much meaning, I loved it!
