Ok. I wanted to start this thread because…..well I don’t rightly know :DI just kinda felt like hearing your opinions about it.
Here goes :D
So what did you people think of the White Witch In battle?
Me personally I thought that she did exceedingly well in being
In battle. I loved her chain mail dress and her swordsmanship
Was superb for a Witch, in my opinion. I really enjoyed her in
Battle, I know she’s a bad guy… but I am respecting her sword
Skills, and thought that she is a really great fighter.
What are your thoughts on her in battle. Do you think she was the best swordfighter in the movie?
Me I think the best swordfighter would be Peter, Orieus or Edmund (b/c he broke her wand).
The Witch in the movie also shows her well known battle arrangements, well with the help of her General Otmin of course:D She seemed like she knew what she was doing when she was sword fighting. And by the way I’m not defending her at all, I’m against the WW. I’m just respecting and appreciating her well swordsmanship.
So what are your thoughts of the narnia movies, referring to swordsmanship?

YEAH I thnk that she's a really good...battler. Like, she moved those swords really gracefully. best swordfighter...i don't know probably orieus or WW because of experience. But best person that looks good sword fighting would be peter ^_^
i actually read that the fur the White Witch is wearing is Aslans! I didn't realize that until I read itin the movie companion.
but yeah, Peter acted out of anger when he was fighting the white witch, and you almost always lose when you fight out of anger because yeah. ^_^ but he was very good. there was that one sequence where they were fighting where you could see the white witch thinking 'heh he's pretty good, and im glad that im fighting such a formidible opponent...before i kill him' thats what i got from her face :p

***MINOR BOOK SPOILERS***
I believe the White Witch was the best swordfighter, and exceptionally skilled in battle (after all, don't forget what she said in her ranting one day: "Scum! You shall pay dearly for this when I have conquered your world [Earth]. Not one stone of your city [London] will be left. I will make it as Charn, as Felinda, as Sorlois, as Bramandin.").
The woman knew how to fight! In the book, she fights Peter with that stone knife with which she killed Aslan, and when Lucy saw them fighting their sword and knife were "flashing so quickly that they looked like three knives and three swords."
I love what Adamson did with the battle, and especially his display of the White Witch. Just as I imagined one of my favorite Narnia characters to be. Well done!

Yeh the battle was amazing, and the witch was good in it (i liked the chariot). As we know the white witch is very physically strong as well as magically, (when she is in London she has no magic ability but can still cause havoc) - she is a very tall being with great stregnth. I like the fact this was portrayed and she wasn't just turning people into stone.

Peter was definitely my favorite in Battle he was just the heroic type!
His sword fighting was well done too!

Yes it is never good to fight in anger. It never works. I actually made a thread about her Aslan fur that she wears to battle:D
Her and Ories true, are more experienced in fighting with swords.

In correction to my above post, I called the White Witch a woman. She was most certainly "out of this world," but (from Lewis' stories) it is said that there is giantish blood in the royal family of Charn and that she was also of Jinn descent (apparently descended from Adam's "first wife," Lilith, mythology to add to the fiction of the story).
I believe that was partially another reason why she declared herself to be the "Queen of Narnia," because she appeared to be human, so usurping the throne that originally belonged to King Frank and Queen Helen's descendants.
Anyway, I'm over my tangent now. We can go back to discussing the battle! (Sorry!) :D

I like the Battle with her and Peter was very awsome!.

Yes that was a well liked part. I also enjoy when Ories and the rino take charge and Peter yells "stop" and The great centaur takes out Otmin, that was a great fight sword wise. And when he goes for the witch.

I liked the witch's chain mail dress too!
I also liked when Edmund turned back and charged at the White Witch. It was really heroic especially after what he did. Plus "Peter's not king yet" was so funny!

Having an amateur look at her, it occurs to me that she would have learned swordfighting in a theoretical context. Maybe her sword master was also her dancing teacher. She poses, runs a couple of numbers on Peter, then poses again. A real medieval knight probably would have dispposed of her in a couple of moves, but then a real knight would never harm a woman, giving Jadis a chance to shishkebab him. However her colossal physical strength would have to be taken into account. Those claymores would have a considerable mass even as battering weapons, let alone their effects with an edge. She would probably batter through a conventional defence through shear force alone. The fight caused me to look up medieval swordsmanship on the net. We hear all about the Japanese Samurai but in actual fact they would have been beaten by a medieval European knight, it is just political correctness that leads us to believe anything European was inferior to anything else. What is a bit disturbing is the number of girls on these forums that appear to take Jadis as a role model. I am aware the original poster to this thread is not, however look around.

She kicked serious butt, what more can I say?
If someone says that they take Jadis as their role model, I don't think they mean as evil people/women, but as strong warrior type women...I kick box and want to learn the Japanese art of swordfighting known as KENDO...and what's so disturbing about that?

I'd have to give due credit to the Witch, and Orieos (spl?). Both were extremely skilled in the art of the blade.

Yes, Orieus was totally awesome. I was bummed that he got killed.

I think my favourite witch Jadis is very cool in the Battle  I love the outfit, and I love the swordfighting! It looks very professional when she just picks up the swords from the ground, and starts swordfighting with Peter. They must have worked really hard to get that right!
And once again: Tilda Swinton did an AMAZING job with her character.Power! :D

She's very thin...but check it out...it takes major strength to use two swords like that LOL...proof you don't have to be a huge muscle woman to wield power on a battlefield.

The battle was awesome, and I wished that the fight between Peter and Jadis actually lasted longer. Maybe it will in the extended edition. Anyway, I thought it was cool for Jadis to be using two swords. You have to be very aggresive if you're going to do that, and the White Witch was. I also thought Oreius' fight with Otmin was very cool. In the theater when you're feeling the rush of the battle, you just want to shout "Yes!" when Oreius puts his swords into Otmin's back. Then you want to go "Oh man!" when Jadis just twirls her wand faster than Oreius can bring his sword down on her and turns him into stone.

i LOVE the battle
i think peter did a wonderful swordfighting job, but i got the feeling that the witch was merely toying with him a bit. like, i felt she was holding back her full potential of swordfighting. peter looked out of breath and she was so calm lol
her chainmail dress did totally rock. i want one just like it ^_^

You will be happy to know, LM, that Orieus did NOT die at the hand of the witch. Turned to stone, yes, but Aslan apparently healed him. If you look at the coronation scene when the Pevensie children are going up through the honor guard to be crowned, Orieus is the last Centaur in the row who looks at them. I rewatched the scene there and paused and there is no doubt that Orieus is there. You can also see him in the Official Illustrateed Companion book where they show the same scene only all the centaurs are in tights for the green screen effects. So be happy there, LM.

I wish the scene between Orieus and General Otmin lasted longer...those two needed more battle time. :D

I will agree that the White Witch was a powerful warrior, a skilled battle strategist, and a top-notch swordswoman. But, she was despicably evil, and I don't like her at all. And, even though it didn't look like lion hair, I especially despise the WW for at all suggesting she was wearing Aslan's mane !

Remember though, the WW's strength was on her by magic-- muscle size wasn't everything.
From what I understand of swordsmanship (and the little I have wielded the three different swords I have), the real skill with swordfighting isn't strength, but speed. I think most people here, just as I do, like broadswords. But if you look at the history of swordsmanship, you will see that the blades got thinner and lighter as the steel improved. In a battle between someone with a broadsword, and another with a rapier or other thin sword, I would expect the person with the thinner sword to win, unless the person with the broadsword was very effective at blocking thrusts with their heavier (and designed for cutting, not thrusting) weapon.
