View Full Version : Bernard Hill As King Miraz

I really think that he could pull it off. We've already seen him as a battle commander in "The Lord of the Rings" and he plays another complex role in "The Ghost in the Darkness".

Not sure about that, he seems too 'round', if you know what I mean, I've always seen Miraz as being quite a spikey chap, someone like a guy called Rufus Sewell - he was in A Knights Tale, and has a rather brooding, scary look about him

Bernard Hill? Round? I disagree. http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0277296/Ss/...Hill,%20Bernard (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0277296/Ss/0277296/5621.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Hill,%20Bernard)
As for your other actor, he might be able to pull it off if he were old enough.

'Round' probably wasn't quite the right word, but he's always seemed a little to fatherly for me, he has this caring side to him which wouldn't fit Miraz that well, also the Telmarine connection, as i would imagine it doesn't seem to fit, seeing that they came from pirates, saying that if we were going for a dream/comedy Miraz, then Johnny Depp doing his Jack Sparrow would be pretty fun!

Just had a wee look around and found some pics of Rufus (such a good name!) He has aged a bit since these were taken, and make up can add many years - let me know what you reckon??

(and I'm not just suggesting him cos he's super attractive????)

If you think Hill is too "fatherly" you should watch "The Ghost and the Darkness".
And why shouldn't Miraz look the way Hill does. After all, the books are very clear on the fact that Caspian is a blonde.
Bernad hill could pull it off i think, but in danger of becoming too typecast as his last role as theoden is a similar part, except he's good in that not evil but if he was to play miraz he would end up looking almost exactly the same as he did playing theoden, the styles and the time era are too similar. But if he could pull it off without little kids going "look its the king from lord of the rings" when he walks on i think he will be great at the acting. (sorry if that made no sense, i'm very tired)
Rufus Sewell is far to young in my opinion.

SPOILER FOR GHOST IN THE DARKNESS! :( :( :(
NO NOT THE GHOST IN THE DARKNESS!
poor king theodin never saw that lion coming...

I'll admit, Hill was great in Ghost in the Darkness, but I love the guy to much to play the villian. Somehow the man who was Theoden, King of Rohan, just doesn't hit me as the kinda guy who would kill his nephew....I'd much rather see him as King Lune (My origonal hope was that he would play the Professor, but that's out of the picture now.... :( )
Rhindon

He doesn't strike me as "cheerful" enough to play the professor.
GrayCloak
09-09-2004, 09:11 PM
Hmm. Maybe you're right, but it would be interesting to have seen him step up to the cheerfullness of the Professor; I think he could have pulled it off. (He just gives off an air of knowlage when you see him on screen...)

Problem with this idea and the idea of karl urban. LOTR was done already. They need to find new people to fill these roles, because people will recognize them and it wont have the same affect, it wont work on the people, you may be able to see the people fit these parts and they may be able to, but people wont get past them already having been in a fantasy series of movies not long before this series comes out. So if you get my drift it wont happen for that reason and i think it shouldnt. Hope i dont sound like a prick or anything but thats just how i saw it when i saw both threads.

I think Bernard Hill wouldn't be bad but I sorta agree with tg.

It is a very good point. He would be good, but there is the problem about having him holding a sword as an evil uncle after seeing him as a kind king. There are a few cases where it would work though. Someone like John Rhys Davies could pull it off because it's sometimes hard to remember he was Gimli when you see him without the beard, nose, voice, and axe.

I hope you arent still confused by what i wrote, as in the first line i mentioned THIS and then karl urban which was another thread you had. I think you figured out what i was talking about though.

My opinion he's not evil enough plus I rather have an actor that is not well known.

i dont know if he would fit for that role lol, he just doesnt seem right for king miraz , in my opinion

bernard hill doesn't strike me as an evil usurper type! :) maybe christopher lee??well...he might be a little old BUT...he does a pretty darn good usurper( saruman, count dooku, the scientist on grimlins II-the grimlins movies are pretty darn freaky, like twisted muppets,i don't recommend them...).

I dont think they should use anyone who has been a king/evil guy in other well known films - otherwise it will shade everyones view of Miraz to begin with..... I agree with the someone unknown.
Gondor Knight of Narnia
10-08-2005, 02:02 PM
they'll probably cast just about everyone from an unknown? :) i just hope they don't make tash too creepy looking in TLB.i read the part when it floated past tirian, etc, gave me the jeeby-heebes(heebie-jeebies backwards?)

They have to make Tash creepy looking! I mean you wants a cute Tash? He's ment to be creepy, scary, evil, etc. (You get the piture) And they better make him that way!
Gondor Knight of Narnia
10-10-2005, 08:14 PM
yes but there's a limit to scariness before it becomes "make a small child wake up with nightmares for three years after" freaky.... :D
she-elfwarrior19
10-11-2005, 06:08 PM
I agree with Elendil, He is suppose to be scary, so make him scary and firghtening, i dont care about the childrens age, it is just common sense to make a scary charactar in a book look scary in a movie?right? well thats my opinion anyway.
Gondor Knight of Narnia
10-11-2005, 07:06 PM
as long as they make the ending EXACTLY like it is in the book i've no problem with them making a freaky tash... :D

The King Miraz in the BBC video reminded me of Bernard Hill actually. I'm not a big fan of the BBC tapes so I don't think he would be very good.

Hey welcoem here, can i call you macmarshy?
anywho, the miraz in the bbc's reminded me of Theodin, the king of rohan from the lotr movies

Yep - I think exactly the same. Miraz from BBC totally reminded me of Thoeden/Bernard Hill from LotR

what about robin williams for a miraz? :D
Robin Williams as MIRAZ? one word: shocking...lol
I can't think of an actor I'd like to be King Miraz...hmmm. I can think of lots of guys to be his evil backstabbing assistants (Lord Glozelle and Lord Sopespian). hehe

I have 2 ideas for actors to play King Miraz:
John Glover
http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/6682/315bfcf0282ad39d92af627acf99ac1.jpg
Michael York
http://www.tribute.ca/tribute_objects/images/stars/michael_york.jpghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/4766/137704ca826ea16c28ced55383db22.jpg
They have the dashing yet evil look, don't you think?! John Glover is Lionel Luthor from the WB's "Smallville", and Michael York was Stone Alexander in "The Omega Code" and "Megiddo: The Omega Code II".

John Cleese? Imagine his powerful performance:
"Ay, treason again? I shall have you burned at the stake, and then, if I am REALLY angry, I shall scatter your ashes on the dung pile behind the royal stables. And that's for starters!"
Rowan Atkinson? Awe inspiring:
"And if I compared you to a squashed mushroom after the flies have had their way with it...and I am currently so inclined...I should be treating you more charitably than you deserve."

I've always imagined Miraz not to be that old and looking like Rufus Sewell..........yum but Bernand Hill is a fantastic actor and maybe he could do the part justice but it's just not who i would have imagined.

Oooh I really like Michael York as Miraz....but I always thought of Tim Curry.....

JOHN GLOVER!!!! I am a big Smallville fan and he would be so perfect. I mean if they want no name actor than that wouldn’t be the best pick but John is such a good villain and he visually fits the part. Go JOHN GLOVER
Aravis Kenobi
02-27-2006, 03:07 PM
I was thinking either John Rhys-Davies (Gimli from the Lord of the Rings trilogy) or even Andy Serkis (Gollum/Smeagol from the Lord of the Rings trilogy).
Saruman
02-27-2006, 11:30 PM
If he wasn't so old, I'd say Christopher Lee. ;)
John Cleese? :D Or better yet, IAN McDIARMID!!!! He plays a mean sinister villain. Vision of glorious actors are flashing through my mind!

I was thinking of the great actor Peter de Best, but when I told my friends they laughed at me.
Does anyone know why they did? self  :D

For your information: I'm Peter de Best. I'm from Holland. I'm not very good at English and I hate talks (/lecture/engagement). I'm afraid I'm not good at acting, but I never tried.

I think bernard hill would be really good.....Martin Csokas (Celeborn in LOTR, Decker in Timeline, Guy de Lusignan in Kingdom of Heaven.) would also be easy for me to picture.

Yeah Bernard or Martin would be good!
