I was looking to see what could be the competition to Voyage of the Dawn Treader. So far that we know, HP Deathly Hallows pt. 1 is planning to be released in Nov 2010. I just discovered another movie that is tentatively scheduled to come out mid December 2010--The Smurfs  That's right, the Saturday morning cartton in the 1980s is reportedly being made into a movie.
Personally, I just hope they don't make the Smuirfs, but it could take a little of the viewership of VotDT, but I doubt it would be of too much consequence.

Let's see... the smurfs or VODT..... tough choice.... NOT! Of course I'll go see VODT. I mean I don't want to go see little blue gnomes! Well maybe I want to... but just a little.

But what if Walden scrambles up the Dawn Treader story SO horribly that a movie of Smurfs ends up being CLOSER in spirit to Narnia than the Dawn Treader movie is?

I doubt the Smurfs will be very popular...I mean seriously.
I don't know when The Hobbit is slated for release; the last I heard about the movie was the resolution of the thing between the Tolkien Estate and New Line. I believe that if Dawn Treader's story is good, keeps close(r) to the book, has a lot of publicity among secular and religious groups, and is released during the Holidays of 2010, then I see no reason for it to be trumped.

I will save up my note money and I'll go see VOTDT the second day it comes out like I did with the 2nd Narnia movie! If it is at all posible.

NO NO NO.
*prays this doesn't happen*
I highly dought this will happen because Michael Apted is a good film director. I'm keeping my hopes high.:)
As for VDT competition, I don't care what is playing I will go see VDT opening night!! It's one of my favorites of the series and I wouldn't miss it for any Smurf movie.

The Hobbit is slated to be released in either 2011 or 2012 . The whole affair with new Line and the tolkien estate ahs been settled.
AS for the Smurf movie, I don't think most audeince members who are chidlren now will be as enthusasitic about it as say some one who grew up watching it. I think kids today are more entracned with SpoungeBob then the little Blue guys who live in 'shrooms.

Yeah it is a generational thing. Several adults may try to take their kids to see the Smurfs because they grew up watching it, but not many kids today would be overwhelmingly interested. Since this will be the 3rd Narnia installment they may want to go see VDT instead.
The film does have an upward hill to climb. It's not only fighting the competition in the box office, but fighting itself vs. the book. If it doesn't stick close enough to the book then it will have a lot more to worry about than just the other films being released. Disgruntal Lewis fans can do more potential harm than competitive films.
knowing may indeed be compitison the dawn treader and the smurfs shud stay a tv show it had its day

Hahaha.
The Smurfs.
Well, I suspect that won't take any viewers from VDT.
I hope.
But I didn't know there was going to be a The Hobbit movie. Darn...now my parents will make me read the book. They'll definitely want to see that movie xD

Yeah Narnia 1 beat HP 4 by a narrow margin. So with some of the fallout from the fiasco that was PC plus a stronger fanbase for HP, this movie could be trouble if VDT isn't up the fans expectations.

The Disney animated film "Rapunzel" will be released on Christmas Day, but by then the sales will start to drop for VDT.

^Not if the fans are happy with the film. LWW stayed up in the top 5 for several weeks after opening day. Some reasons why:
1. The Fans were happy with the film
2. It had a lot of publicity
3. It had a lot of church groups and youth group backing
4. It was a great movie, period.
PC fell short of the first 3 reasons. the resource site for the first movie doesn't exist anymore. I am puzzled as to why; Disney should have realized that all those resources that groups and church groups purchased was part of the success behind LWW. I have a feeling that the reason there was no church publicity for PC was it was a little more adult and the book isn't quite as popular as the first.
