Hey! I was just wondering about some of y'all's avatars, what they're from, who they are (maybe of the person posting?), and why you've chosen the particular avatar. Cause, since it represents the person posting, it must mean something to you! (even if you just picked it 'cause you thought it was a cool picture)

Since I started, I'll start. (riiight....)

My avatar is ME! Yup, that's really me. That pic was taken over at Six Flags Over Georgia Theme Park.

I picked this picture 'cause it's me looking cool and not as crazy as I look in some of my other pictures. It's a few years old, but I still look pretty much the same. (I think I was 18 in that pic. I'm 20 now.) Yup, cool and handsome as ever. lol

Because it's a picture of me, this picture represents me!

My avatar is from a Christian band called Five Iron Frenzy, who disbanded in December 2003. They're problem my favorite band, and the avvy's from the advertisements for their last album/concert. So, yea, ummmmmmmm, listen to FIF(though that last 'F' should be facing backwards).

oh, also feel free to explain why you chose your user name (and how to pronounce it if it's not a common word). There are some very interesting usernames out there, and sometimes I wonder where they come from.

My name "Dragon" is based on the main character (of that name) of a science fiction series I'm writing. The stories total up to over 400 page so far, and I'm hoping to get them published some time. hope - hope - hope!

Well, my avvie's a generic-brand, got-it-here goldfish. Mostly just because since my name's Y. Fish, I thought I should have a fish. And my name's Y. Fish because when I was really little, I had a problem with chewing on toys. So I was chewing on this little plastic yellow fish one day while I was playing the computer game DX Ball. And I got a high score, and it asked me for my name. I wanted to be cool and not put my normal, boring name, so I spat out the fish, looked at it, and that's where I got the name idea from. I've still got the fish. I keep meaning to take a picture of it and make that my avatar, or use a picture of the Whark or Fish from Riven. I had a squee for a while, as well, but then I went back to the fish.

Well my avvie was the only CoN picture I could come up with at the moment, so that's why it is like it is. I'm thinking of making a new one sometime. On a MYST site that I came across, my avvie is the MYST linking book lying surrounded by black (Fishy will know what I'm talking about). I think that's all of them although I do make some.

I just changed my avatar from Shadowfax to Arwen. I typically use Arwen avatars on the forums that I post on. I know this one is hard to see, but it is Arwen and Asfaloth.

OK, it's been a month, so I'm tired of that avatar I had. This is a somewhat more recent picture of me. It's not really a special picture, just a pic I took of myself. I'll probably change it again before too long.

Lunis (pronounced loonis, long U short I)means moon.
I didn't choose a full moon because I didn't want to go giving the
werewolves who visit this site (like Specter) any excuse for transforming. ;)

My avvie is Dominic Monaghan because I think he's a brilliant actor and yes he's v. cute. my Username is NiennaTinuviel which are two names from the Silmarillion. Nienna was the valar of sorrow and Tinuviel was the name Beren gave to Luthien and it means twilight. I just liked the way they both looked together so I've been using NiennaTinuviel as my SN and Username pretty much everywhere...hehe.

Sometimes I do that as well, so I get confused with some people whose avatars are photographs of someone who's a different genter than the person represented. You know who you are...

my avatar is a cropped, close-up version of the banners that were released a few months ago. the name JadistarkilleR is based on two characters: Jadis you all know; Starkiller is the original last name for Anakin Skywalker when Lucas was writing Star Wars 30 years ago. i just merged the last letter in Jadis and the first letter in Starkiller, capped the R for aesthetic purposes and there you have it: JadistarkilleR.

kinda fits Jadis too, if she had a last name. true she didnt destroy a star but she did destroy a planet.

oh and Jadis is known to be half Jinn (which is kind of becoming an inside joke among Star Wars fans ;))



and NiennaTinuviel, i think Dom is a great actor, i'm hoping he'll get his break soon. sure deserves it more than that pretty boy Bloom (who personally i dont really find too pretty <_< )

ok don't beat me but can someone tell me what a riven fish is? Obviously I know what it looks like but i'm guessing it's from some kind of book, game, movie...Oh yea and Jadis i totally agree w/u about Bloom. I loved him in LotR because I loved his character, Legolas, but I really don't think he's that versatile of an actor. Dom is much better. Can't wait for "Lost" :D

I'm guessing that only Fishy and I know about Riven. It's a computer game, but it's so much more than that!!! There are actually several that tie together in a story. Here they are in order:

1. Myst (there is a redone version called RealMyst)
2. Riven
3. Exile
4. Revelation

And there is another one that I suppose comes a lot later chronologically (I don't know because I haven't played it yet), and it's called Uru: Ages Beyond Myst.

You're wondering what this has to do with a Riven fish, yeah, I talk to much. Anyways, the Riven fish is a symbol used in the game Riven. That's it. ;)

There are also the Myst books, three of them I believe. Fishy can tell you the titles because I've forgotten them. :)

Well, if I've managed to attach my pic propoerly (not exactly computer genius you see) it's the image of a dragon thats generally used in tatoos - if i was less of a wuss I'd have it done - in small of course, and my name is said as seen - rosy mole - this is not my real name, more linked to the fact that i generally have a very healthy looking face - rosy wind burned cheeks and the mole bit is an old nickname from school - for the sake of ease most people call me plain old 'rosy'

Thank you Y. Fish. You have apparently discovered a bug in the NarniaFans website. I currently see my avatar as Prince Caspian blowing his horn. You apparently see my avatar as my face on Aragorn's head.

I always wanted to be in a film of "The Lord of the Rings". But I was too young and I was prevented from trying that. So I decided to put my face on Aragorn's just for the fun of it because I figured it was the next best thing.

Oh well, now I can try out "The Chronicles of Narnia"! I might be cast as Caspian! Or Rilian! Or Tirian! Or the guy that is screaming on the mountain in a long distance shot.

The question about the word "avatar" came up recently. This is what dictionary.com says:

AVATAR (av╡'-e-tär) - (in context of chat or virtual reality) An image representing a user in a multi-user virtual reality space.

Apparrently the word derives from Hindu origin. Here are more original definitions of the word avatar before it became linked to cyberspace:
1. a new personification of a familiar idea
2. The incarnation of a Hindu deity
3. A temporary manifistation or aspect of a continuing entity

There are other definitions that has to do with incarnation and manifistation. I guess I can see how it carried over to mean something that represents a computer user.

I'm thinking about doing a new avatar. One inspired by the main character of my fantasy story I'm writing (the character's name is.....Dragon!) Thanks. I took the picture of me last night (so it's a very recent picture) and I took a screenshot from Attack of the Clones where Jango Fett uses a flame thrower. I cut out the flame and pasted it over my mouth (rotating and resizing the flame). Oh, and I used Jasc Paint Shop Pro.

I changed my signature to a quote from one of my all time favorite books (besides CoN and LotR!). It's actually a trilogy, but the quote comes from the last in the trilogy. They're beautiful books, and while they may seem childish in a way, they're fantastic and amazing. They kinda remind me of C.S. Lewis's space trilogy, only not in space.

Anyways, the trilogy that my signature quote is from, is these three books: Swan Lake, A City in Winter, The Veil of Snows. If anyone else has read them, please tell me! :P

The books are authored by Mark Helprin, and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg.

They might be children's books, but I find them wonderfully in depth, intriguing, and fascinating. But that might be just because I like these kinds of stories. And, I've always loved CVA's illustrations. I think he did some for the covers of the Narnia books once. Ah yes, here's a link...(go down to the bottom of the page)

hey, Green Cloak. well first, what are you into? do you have any hobbies that you would like to incorperate(sp?) into your avatar? at this point in time, my avatar is a picture of three tiger cubs floating down a river in a basket. tigers are my favorite animal. but the reason that i chose that picture for...well just right now is because it look Dead. and the water like Rain. so it's like my name. of course it's super hard to see when the picture is so small, but i know what it is, and that's all that really matters! haha.

also the colors in my avatar i like. and trees i like too. there ARE trees in the picture of my avvie, but i doubt that you can see them. before this avatar i had a pic of a tower at night that i made on the paint program.

so if you could give us a little info about you and what you like and what not, it would be much easier to help!

Sure Dernhelm, go into your user CP and then there should be a list of 'edit' options off to the lefthand side. Click on the 'edit avatar' button, and if you have a picure already picked out for your avatar on your computer then you can upload it.

Click on the 'browse' button for uploading from your computer, and then look in your pictures until your find the avatar you want. (you're gonna have to have picture already saved that you want to use) You'll have to make sure it's the right size as well, the size/pixel limit should be in in by the browse button so your should have no problem finding it. Make sense? Hmm, maybe not, I'm not to good at this stuff myself...Aw well we'll fingure it out yet. ;)

p.s. Black, your avatar scares me...is that bunny smoking?

sorry for the constant stream of updates and changes everywhere, but I just made a new avatar and sig.

The new avatar is a dragon I illustrated for my story. He's Dariken, one of the main villains in my third story. I also put him in my sig, which also has my own pencil-drawn logo for theta and fixed digitally so it doesn't look like a pencil drawing.

Hey, I thought of a avie for Rosymole.

Anyone here ever seen the cartoon "Kim Possible" on the Disney Channel? Well, a character in the show, Rufus, is a "bald mole rat" and he's adorable. I thought he would make a good temporary avatar for her, at least until we get some good pix from CoN.

Your problem may be that the format of your image is wrong; to show up on a web page it has to be in .jpg or .gif format.

You can...if you can find the right grafics program to do it. In mine, I just go into it, click "Save As...", and save it in the format I want. But mine is an Apple, and the program is freeware...so what you have might work differently. Someone else might be more help.

...Here's what you do. Instead of saving the picture to your hard drive, copy it and paste it into a basic "paint" program. Then save the "paint" document as you normaly would. I use this simple bypass all the time when the file formats on the internet are not compatable with my computer's software. This technique also works great for desktop wallpaper...
...No charge for this one, but next time you need help I will have to put you on hold for an hour first...

I use my computer manly for writing and the internet, which is what Macs are excellent at. However, for a high speed, gaming machine you would need a PC, probably a 2.4gh Pentium 4, with about a gig of ram. (I really, REALLY want a Mac, because the PC I have is always crashing or deleting my work :mad:, however I can't afford a Mac right now :( )
