Sorry I can't remember if it was officially announced. My Dad said he saw something recently that they might not make the movie because the second one didn't make as much money as the first one.

Yes, it is. Here is all the official word we have on the movie thus far....

http://www.narniafans.com/movies/mov_vdt.php.

It has been pushed back due to the writers strike, but to the best of my knowledge it is currently in preproduction and sceduled to start filming this fall. It is the other ones that the producers are wondering about.

They already have actors contracts and everything. I will point out something that I heard from a operator of a toy store, Disney is releasing PC on DVD at Christmas time. They expect to make the most of their money from the DVD market. This lady told me that they would probably not even get the PC toys in until then.

I hope so too. and I hope that if they make silly changes, at least they take their ideas from us at the silly changes thread.:)

I heard they were going to make all seven in the order of when they were published. They're considering "The Horse and his Boy," but I don't know for sure. They've already announced they're going to make "The Silver Chair," so I don't see why they wouldn't take a step further to make more movies (and more money ) to complete the series.

Exciting! :D

The PC toys were in Target stores, but most of them are gone now. Ebay would be a good bet for you to get some. I'm sure some things will be released with the DVD as well. We'll have to wait and see.

As for the films being made, even with VDT, time will tell. It has the green light, but I'll be more optimistic when they actually start filming it. With the way PC did and the way the economy has been I'm not getting fixed on it as a done deal. Disney contracts have provisions so that they can get rid of the project if necessary I'm sure. I hope they make VDT, provided they stick to the books. I just don't want to get my hopes up and see it not happen.

Of course VODT is going to be made !!! Why Not ?? They have all the actors they need, and if you go on different website, there are official announcements !!!!

I loved PC !!! I don't understand why people disliked it, even if it was REALLY different from the book, I thought it was SPECTACULAR !!!

Contracts and actors don't matter. There's always a way to cancel if the powers that be decide to. I hope it will be made, but only time will tell. Yes they have official announcements out, but many were made before PC didn't do as well as hoped. Many were made before the economic crisis that is hanging over the heads of people in the USA. One needs money to make films regardless of the actors they have. If the money is taken away, they won't have the film. If the investors are too wary of making another film that won't make what they hope it will, they won't invest in it. It's that simple.

I'm glad you thought the movie was spectacular, but many people were going to see the story that they loved. Since it was way different from the book and since it changed the spirit of several of the characters it's not hard to figure out why several people didn't like it or struggled with it. I struggled with a lot of it myself. I would like to see VDT as long as they follow the book. If they're going to change it up all over the place in the manner they did PC, they needn't bother making it as far as I'm concerned. But that's me...and several others. We're entitled to that opinion and it's honest. I love the cast and crew of the films, but I want to see the Narnia I've treasured for the last 30 years. No more, no less.

you're right, it was really different from the book, but it wouldn't have been the same, the actrors wouldn't have played together so much and everything, but you're right, it was really different and I wan understand you're disapointed :)

I hope VODT will stick a little more to the book

After watching Stardus, I feel like VotDT will be something similary maybe. Meaning th level of drama they have. That would be alright, and it ouldbe different from LWW. PC was kind of ...wel the whole book was kind of like...an intemission or summary or prologue type of thing.

It will be made as I expect monstrous success for PC DVD and toys during X-Mas. You know that in 1999 Episode One of the Star Wars series was profitable before it is evem released? That was thanks to the toys.

No, but I can understand your confusion. There's an entire forum called The Dawn Treader which is devoted to RPGs (and I wish they'd called something else). But there's also a section (http://www.narniafans.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=25) devoted to the books themselves. There you'll find a forum for each book, as well as several threads discussing all the books. The threads to which I refer are down in the forum devoted to the book Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

With the news about possible dropping of filming in Malta, let's hope the entire film isn't dropped. Remember pre-production is just a planning stage where you just set thing up. Production can still be cancelled. Even if they delay, that could cause them to lose the actors as they get to old to use and move on. I feel they are just trying to cut cost. They really over-budgeted on Prince Caspian and money was wasted on things that I fell didn't help the story. I do know that family films do well in economic downturns, as people try to find ways to entertain their families for less money. Going to the movie is still less than family trips. So let's hope VDT is still a go.:D

On a world-wide basis PC made a lot of money - nearly 500 million.

See here: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=narnia2.htm

If they return to what Lewis wrote instead of tweaking it to substandard attempts to appeal to what they think an audience wants these days, they'll make huge bucks on VDT.

The next producer and the executive producers really need to read PLANET NARNIA by Michael Ward to realise what they are fooling with. That includes the adviser, Mr. Gresham. Also, all Narnia fans above 11th grade will benefit from the reading of this book. But be warned, it is not light reading. Still, after 35 years of reading TCN, I learned a lot from my first reading. I am re-reading it. It is that good.

Merry Christmas, Brother Inked! I have not seen you in so long!

I hope you are right, that the films will be made, but even more so, that if they are the producers will return to the real meaning and spiritual themes of the books. I will get the book you suggest - maybe someone will get it for me for Christmas!

Now with the news that the filming in Mexico is being scrapped, I really feel that VDT will never get out of pre-production. The Mexico filming was critical for most of the sea sences. To have to move to another location would mean starting from scatch, which means months of delay. And if Walden Media feel the actors are no longer suitable (they are getting older), the problems of recasting could kill the project. I never felt we would get all 7 books made into movies but I had hoped to get maybe 4 or 5 made. I know that PC made enough money to justify continuation of the series, but I just don't feel the film industry wants to make movies for a mainly Christian audience. And that is how they see it. And with Walden Media owning the rights to the movies for now, they won't have to worry about some competitor doing the movies.

Tim I also fear you are correct. I echo Inkspot's sentiments.

I really wanted the films to be made and wanted to see Narnia in the movies...but that's just it. I wanted to see Narnia as I did with the BBC series, as cheezy as they were in production value. If it's not going to be the Narnia in the books...at least sticking to the spirit of the characters in the books, then it's not worth it to me because people won't see Narnia. They won't see the amazing work that Jack made. They'll see something much less. No amount of costuming or speciail effects can make up for where scripts are lacking.

I think the film will still be made. According to imdb, Will Poulter has already signed on for the fourth movie

Besides, as I said on the other thread, Apted and Knight, to my knowledge, seemed extremely enthusiastic about the project when they signed on, and they also seem to each have a genuine interest in the Chronicles themselves (Apted has been a fan since he was a child--at that time, Lewis hadn't even finished the series yet). I don't think Disney's dropout is going to deter them...hopefully Walden finds a new partner soon so the film can be made without further delay and then they can pwn Disney in the face for being so stupid.

I think they'll find a partner soon...I highly doubt studios would snub an opportunity to make a fortune off this...lol...Disney is dumb if they think that dropping out of Narnia is going to be financially good for them. :D

But I bet you Walt Disney himself is turning in his grave. If he was still alive, none of this would have happened--I don't honestly think that man would've turned something as iconic as Narnia away. He always embraced whatever fairy tales he could make into films for children to enjoy, and he did it because that was what he loved to do, not because he was money-hungry. And Narnia is one of the best fantasy worlds out there to adapt to film. He certainly would not have dropped out.

And honestly, does Disney think it has stuff bigger and better than Narnia? The only things keeping them together are POTC, PIXAR, and people's undying love for the classics. NOT the new crap that they keep pitching to us. Their live action movies, for the most part, suck because they're cheesy or badly-done remakes. The only good ones recently have really been the ones that they've done with, guess who? WALDEN MEDIA! Other than that, their movies/tv shows have really sunk in quality...the only exception to that (besides the Disney/Walden collaborations) have been the Pixar films. Without Pixar, Disney would already be a joke. They're lucky that the people at Pixar are such geniuses like Walt himself was or else they'd be in the gutter.

So...yeah. Let's hope Disney gets pwned in the face or that they miraculously see the light and try to live up to their founder's original ideals. ;)

Disney is dumb for it. All the stuff I've loved about Disney and Disney world is the stuff that Walt had a hand in, like the Magic Kingdom in Disney world. He designed it all, and it beats Epcot, MGM, and Animal kingdom by far. The magic Disney had was in Walt, and now that he's gone, they lost it.:(
