View Full Version : Traitors, Jadis, and the Deep Magic

I have been thinking about traitors in CoN. In LWW, Edmund was the traitor and Jadis said that according to the Deep Magic, "every traitor belongs to me as my lawful prey and that for every treachery I have a right to a kill." Because of this, Jadis had a right to Edmund's blood as he was a traitor.

But after Aslan killed her, there was no one left in Narnia to deal with traitors. The Deep Magic could not be appeased without someone to kill the traitor. Jadis announced that if she didn't have blood, Narnia would perish in fire and water.

That is exactly what happened in TLB. Narnia ended in fire and water. Shift was the traitor and had no one to appease the Deep Magic. No one was left to take blood for the treachery.

What does everyone think?

That's amazing, but I think it's coincidence. There were other evil folk like the lady with the green kirtle. It's a matter of the traitor being killed, rather than who kills them.

I agree with the Magister - I don't think there's a connection. I think Aslan's offered blood forever appeased that aspect of the Deep Magic. At the end of The Last Battle, Narnia ended in water (though not in fire), because its time was ended, not because of Shift's treachery.

Though it is a very clever conection, i would never have figured it but i agree with the others...

Yeah, I agree with PotW. I believe Aslan's sacrifice forever appeased the Deep Magic in regard to crying out for the blood of traitors. Narnia ended because it was its time to go.
