If we just talked about CoN on the surface, the conversation would end shortly; this forum would have 1 thread. http://www.narniafans.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

Oh, and the weather...
I'm in Seattle at the moment, and it's...raining! (gasp!). I here it's nice at home in Colorado; it's supposed to get yucky tomorrow when we fly back...go figure...

When I first found this site, I was looking for people who would be interested in discussing all facets of the books and movie. everyone can "just enjoy it" but not everyone wants to talk about all the details and hidden meanings ... My family certainly didn't want to! It would bore them to death. But then, here, I found people who are interested in debating and discussing all the details and related issues! I was so happy. Now you are saying we should not debate and discuss these things? But why? What is your rationale?

Inkspot and others, I could not agree more. The issue of symbolism (specifically symbolism drawn from Lewis' rather rich Christian literary "vocabulary") has been a matter of discussion since the books were published. Whether they contained symbolism was never a debate, since not only are the metaphors/allegories/symbols or whatever else you'd like to tag them so glaringly obvious to anyone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of the Christian and biblical worldview (whether you agree with it or not), but because Lewis himself said his final product was indeed loaded with them--however he may have ruminated later concerning the process by which that final product came about. On top of all that, basically all his other writings are Christian apology, meaning Lewis making a "case" for Christianity.

Now, Narnia has hit the mainstream through a blockbuster movie. And a bunch of people want to talk Narnia, but (gasp) they have found out that a bunch of crazy Christians "got there" first, planting the terrible banner of Christian thought on Aslan's How. So the response is to tell Christians to keep Narnia nice and neat, and free of confrontation and offense, meaning "religion," and Christianity, and Jesus, and any possible reference to any of these things by reading Narnia in the light of the faith of the man who created Narnia.

That leaves us to discuss special effects and how cute so-and-so is (for the movie) and order of publication vs. chronological order (for the books). A sterilized Narnia is no longer Narnia, folks. I feel very much as if I were Edmund or some other slave of the White Witch, threatened with death if Aslan's name is mentioned again.

Well, atop Aslan's How I blow Susan's horn and shout to the sky that Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Only Lord, God Incarnate, through Whom all was created that has been created, sacrificed for my sin yet raised on the third day, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah--Lewis' Aslan--that one and only Sovereign--yes, Him--well, He's on the MOVE. Blessed be He. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.

Boy that felt good.

Wow, I couldn't agree with you more, PK-I too will blow the horn of Susan and proclaim that Aslan is on the move; although I still don't mind a little discussion of how cute "so-and-so" (ahem, Anna Popplewell) is ;)

cool! parthian king that's really cool!
by the way: the books are serious and they are meant to be an apologetic of sorts to kids mainly people everywhere.
the book and the movies are supposed to be enjoyed but the fact is that they have an important deeper meaning that cannot, logically, be ignored. AND debating is really fun. :D

I totally agree!! The movie and the book totally tie in with the Bible!! C.S. Lewis wrote the book to be based on the story of Jesus Christ!! I am soooooo glad that there are other people (mostlyChristians) out there that know the truth, that the movie and book is based on the Bible.

Oh, lots of people know that the book has biblical symbolism. There are even books about the symbolism, such as "Finding God in the Land of Narnia." I think only recently non-believers have begun trying to say that the books have nothing to do with God or spirituality.
