Ok! Here's where you start out by answering the question posted last and then you ask the next question. Pretty simple stuff here. Just try your best not to cheat too much!!! If you need a hint, don't be afraid to ask for one if it's been a while since the last q. was asked. Here's the first question:
~What is the name of the governor of the Lone Islands?

Gwenneth
07-13-2004, 09:52 PM
Gumpas.

What are the names of the seven lords that Caspian is searching for in the VDT?

Warrior-Poet51088
07-14-2004, 09:20 AM
The lords Revilian, Bern, Argoz, Mavramorn, Octesian, Restimar, and oh! that last one that's "so hard to remember" would be Lord Rhoop.

Here's and easy one: Who gets the brilliant idea to hack at the sea serpent's body in VDT?

dawntreader77
07-19-2004, 07:08 PM
that would be eustace i believe...i always think its something repacheip would do. hmmm

im not sure if im doing this right. but heres my question-

***what is the name place where diggory and polly find ''the queen''***
way to easy i know

Charn

What's the name of Reepicheep's second-in-command?

Y. Fish
07-30-2004, 12:28 PM
Peepicheek (which is also the name my cat narrowly avoided getting saddled with)

What is the name of the magician on the Island of the Dufflepuds? (which is the name my cat got saddled with)

NiennaTinuviel

I'm guessing we aren't allowed to look in the books at all? I thought it started with an R...

Newp. Try a letter more like C...

dawntreader77

corikon i think...[spelling is now super hard with out the books.]

***what is left of the great king of the ancient giants' ancient script?***

"Though under Earth and throneless now I be,
Yet, while I lived, all Earth was under me."

not sure if I have the wording right

faeriechylde
08-04-2004, 12:58 AM
Wow, can't look at the books? Impossible for me... I'm a "check reference" person. My mind automatically forgets things that I know are easily accessible in written form, though it always remembers exactly where to find them.

Y. Fish
08-04-2004, 11:33 AM
Hmm... well, since there doesn't appear to be a current trivia question, here's one:

What two names are found in both Narnia and Middle-Earth? (Hint: this includes character and place names)

Between_the_Worlds
08-07-2004, 11:42 AM
Ettensmoor?

Y. Fish
08-07-2004, 12:19 PM
That's one. What's the other?

Between_the_Worlds
08-07-2004, 05:24 PM
oooohhhh, I don't know!! is it a character?

Y. Fish
08-07-2004, 09:02 PM
Yes... in one series. Not in the other.

Dragon
08-07-2004, 09:53 PM
oh yeah... now I remember thinking when I saw Ettinsmoor on the map whether it was in LotR as well. But I had forgotten about it. Oh well.

(I just now pulled out the maps of both Middle Earth and the lands around Narnia and noticed in Middle Earth it's Ettinmoors and in the land above Narnia it's Ettinsmoor. Wouldn't have remembered that without looking at the map, but a neat little bit of trivia).

Not sure about the name. Only thing I can think of is Fredegar Bolger in LotR and the Bulgy Bears in Narnia. But I don't know if that's who you meant.

aren3
08-13-2004, 02:31 PM
I think I've found it but I cheated. I'm currently reading through LotR and decided to look at the map, partly to track the Fellowship, and partly to find the answer to this question. Since I used the book, I won't say unless you want me to.

faeriechylde
08-13-2004, 03:29 PM
I think this trivia should be "open book" just because even the ability to find the answers in books or series this size would be impressive to me!

dawntreader77
08-13-2004, 09:15 PM
i must agree with fae...i think we should have a vote though [im in a voty mood if you will...]this is probably the stupidist idea ive ever had...come to think of it all my ideas are stupid.

Dragon
08-13-2004, 11:16 PM
I would suggest that after a day has passed without the correct answer, then people can start looking in books if they're stumped. That way it lets those (not I) who are really good at this sort of thing to show it. But it also is good to those who love to flip through pages to find stuff (like me).

(I've been looking in the books for this other one, but I can't think of what it could be, unless I was right about Bulgy, which I don't think I was... So flipping through the books isn't always a giveaway).

Y. Fish
08-14-2004, 09:46 AM
It's not Bulgy, but good guess. Here's a hint: In Narnia, the name is a character name. In LoTR, the name is a place name.

08-17-2004, 03:51 AM
good question! well, Bree the horse and Bree the place in the Shire ( does that count) HOw about King lune and I'm sure I rememeber something about mOuntains of Lune in LotR?

Y. Fish
08-17-2004, 06:36 PM
Yes! And rosymole wins the grand prize of... that warm fuzzy success feeling you get when you answer a question right. I was wondering when somebody would get Bree. As for Lune, I hadn't thought of that one, but it sounds like it could be true.

rosymole
08-19-2004, 06:58 AM
The lune is something in the intro of FotR i think, but i wouldn't put money it,

Right, new question..
erm, bit stumped here
ok, Who is Zardeenah?

Y. Fish
08-20-2004, 04:33 PM
Hmm... sounds like Calormen. Not a main character, but didn't Aravis talk about going into the woods to mediate with some godess before her wedding day? Is that Zardeenah?

Ramandu
08-20-2004, 06:46 PM
Hmm... sounds like Calormen. Not a main character, but didn't Aravis talk about going into the woods to mediate with some godess before her wedding day? Is that Zardeenah?

Yeah, that would be one of the godesses of the Calormenes.

Next question.....

What kind of fish is cooked up by the Pevensies and Trumpkin in PC? (I hope they only ate fish once so that there aren't multiple answers... )

NiennaTinuviel
08-20-2004, 11:23 PM
wasn't it trout?

Ramandu
08-21-2004, 03:46 PM
No, not trout......

aren3
08-21-2004, 04:41 PM
I know that one! Pavenders.

Ramandu
08-21-2004, 05:31 PM
Yep! Somebody else can ask the next question.....

Y. Fish
08-21-2004, 07:54 PM
Okay, straight from the official Narnia Trivia book: What is Aunt Letty mending when Uncle Andrew, Jadis and the children return to England the first time?

NiennaTinuviel
08-21-2004, 11:03 PM
This is hard I really oughtn't to guess but it's fun. Sheets?

Y. Fish
08-22-2004, 01:00 PM
No, but close. I only remembered it because of the illustration.

NiennaTinuviel
08-22-2004, 02:12 PM
I remember seeing the illustration too but I just can't remember exactly what she was mending. A dress maybe?

Dragon
08-22-2004, 08:41 PM
um, my memory would say a quilt.

NiennaTinuviel
08-22-2004, 10:48 PM
i think your memory serves you well...

Ramandu
08-23-2004, 03:26 PM
It was a matress, wasn't it?

rosymole
08-23-2004, 04:23 PM
Horaah! - she landed on it when Jardis got moody with her - quite handy 'd say!

Y. Fish
08-23-2004, 07:37 PM
Yep, 'twas a matress to be sure. :D

Dragon
08-23-2004, 10:59 PM
oo oo my turn! This should be a very easy one.

What food was offered to Edmund when he returned to report about his brother and sisters and Aslan? (Edmund didn't want to eat it because his mind was still on Turkish Delight.)

NiennaTinuviel
08-23-2004, 11:25 PM
I REMEMBER THIS ONE!!! Bread! A crusty bit of bread and I think some water.

rosymole
08-24-2004, 05:12 AM
Well done, you win that same piece of bread!

What was the name of giant in the battle that didn't go too well in Prince Caspian?(very badly worded sorry!)

Between_the_Worlds
08-24-2004, 10:57 AM
er......Rumblebuffin?

rosymole
08-24-2004, 11:08 AM
yes! gold star for you!

Dragon
08-24-2004, 04:51 PM
I thought it was Wimbleweather.

NiennaTinuviel
08-24-2004, 09:17 PM
wasn't rumblebuffin the giant from LWW? The one that was stone but got turned back by Aslan?

okay, I've got two questions.

1. What was the name of the young Calorman in LB?

2. Which of the girls of the Seven Friends of Narnia liked him the most?

Dragon
08-25-2004, 07:54 AM
Can't remember his name, but I'm pretty sure that it was Lucy who liked him.

NiennaTinuviel
08-25-2004, 01:33 PM
The Calormen boy who went into the New Narnia?

Y. Fish
08-25-2004, 03:46 PM
His name was EMETH! And I remember that because he's my favorite character :)

NiennaTinuviel
08-26-2004, 12:17 PM
oh yes i remember now. I can totally see him as hot too...

Between_the_Worlds
08-26-2004, 03:00 PM
Yay for Dragon and Fishy!!!! Yup, thats it!

Alright, someone else ask a question.

Dragon
08-26-2004, 07:32 PM
What was the name of the fisherman who "owned" Shasta?

Capstick
08-26-2004, 08:46 PM
I believe the name of the fisherman was "Abib" (did I spell that correct?) Of all the books, The Horse and His Boy is my favorite.

If that is the right answer, then my question is this: what is Bree's REAL name (extra points if you get the spelling correct!). :)

NiennaTinuviel
08-26-2004, 09:48 PM
Oh goodness wasn't it something like breeheeheehinny or something ridiculous like that?

Between_the_Worlds
08-26-2004, 11:15 PM
yes, something like that. but I could never spell it without looking at the books.

Capstick
08-26-2004, 11:48 PM
I just checked the books and found out I was wrong! :o The fisherman was not named "Abib", but it does begin with an "A."

By the way, Bree's real name was "Breehy-hinny-brinny-hoohy-hah," so, yes, you were very close! :)

Between_the_Worlds
08-27-2004, 12:05 PM
wait, wasn't the fisherman's name Ashish or something? I know it started with an A. Ashish I think it was, although I don't know how to spell it.

GrayCloak
08-27-2004, 12:09 PM
Yah, it was Arsheesh I believe

Y. Fish
08-27-2004, 04:47 PM
Ha ha. I have a friend named Anish. He's not a Calormen fisherman, though.

Warrior-Poet51088
08-27-2004, 07:25 PM
I believe it was "Asheesh."
Pretty sure, soo....

What was the original name of "The Horse and His Boy"?

NiennaTinuviel
08-28-2004, 03:38 PM
Wasn't it something about two brothers? I don't know but I think I remember something like that being mentioned in reference to THB

rosymole
08-30-2004, 06:47 PM
That sounds about right, the 2 brothers thing, but haven't a clue really!

Must apologise about my GIANT  mishap - thinking about it now, i was wrong and send grovelling apologies to all!

Well, the old triv game seems to have lost its sparkle, so I shall take the liberty of re-starting it! Ready, Steady, Go...

What is the first recipe Jill reads in the giants recipe book at Harfang in the SC?

GrayCloak

Yes, it would seem that Aragorn51088, is too smart for the rest of us....(I remove my hat to you sir.... )

As for the new question, I believe the first entry in the cook-book was 'Mallard' followed by 'Man,' and then 'Marshwiggle.'

Do tell me if I'm right....

Could I get some knee-bending action too? Groveling? Bowing, at least? No? Oh well...... :D

GrayCloak: I hate it when I forget, and then have to ask ppl ?'s about htemselves, but you sound like you're from the UK ("ready, steady, go", as opposed to our American "ready, set, go") Also: Are you a guy or a girl(I was gonna say something like "and I tip my hat to your manners, sir," but I didn't wanna go and make you all mad if I got your gender wrong.)

GrayCloak

I'll bend my knee, but only because your name happens to be Aragorn....

In terms of where I'm from, your right on both accounts. My Mum is English but my Dad's American. I was born in England, giving me dual citizenship, and have been back there to visit family, though currently I live in America. My grammer, I have been told, falls more under 'English' then 'American'

I wouldn't have gotten mad if you'd said sir, but it would have been incorect as I am a girl. (at least I was last time I checked....) I'm often mistaken for a guy on the internet (I blaim having four brothers), and as long as you still don't think I'm a man in person, we'll get along just fine.

I don't think there's been a new question yet since the answer of "Mallard" by GrayCloak.

I'd post one, but my brain's fried now. which is why I'm studying for my test I take later today. Wait. Reverse that. I'm studying for my test I take later today, which is why my brain's fried.

So anyone who wants to post a new question, it seems to be open for anyone to do this.

Rhindon

Who told king Edmund of a secret way to get into Archenland?

GrayCloak
09-30-2004, 11:28 AM
It was Sallowpad the Raven, correct?

Is so:

What was the only other thing in the spare room besides the Wordrobe?

Rhindon
09-30-2004, 11:37 AM
Correct.

Hmmm... My guess is either a window or a chair.

GrayCloak
09-30-2004, 12:42 PM
Nice try, there was a window, because what I'm thinking about was on the windowsill... Want to try again?

Dragon
09-30-2004, 01:24 PM
um, a plant? I remember there being a fireplace in the Pauline Baynes' illustration in my book.

GrayCloak
09-30-2004, 01:51 PM
Nope! Lol! Sorry this is kida obscure.

Here's a hint (and a big one at that): It *was* alive at some point....(But it wasn't a plant.)

Capstick
09-30-2004, 07:22 PM
I believe the only other thing in the room besdies the wardrobe was a dead fly on the windowsill, correct?

If that is the right answer:

QUESTION: In Prince Caspian, what nickname did the four children give to Trumpkin the dwarf, and what did it stand for?

Rhindon
09-30-2004, 08:19 PM
DLF and it stood for Dear Little Friend.

Dragon
10-01-2004, 12:11 AM

AlwaysHis324
10-01-2004, 01:02 AM
mothballs :D

Dragon
10-01-2004, 01:50 AM
Yay! Mothballs is correct!

QUESTION: In Prince Caspian, what was the order that the Pievensie children saw Aslan? (Who saw him first, second, third, and last?)

GrayCloak
10-01-2004, 01:57 AM
I want to say Lucy, Edmund, Peter then finally Susan. *sigh* poor Susan, I'll never get over what happens to her....

Dragon
10-01-2004, 02:43 AM
That's correct, and I agree. I always thought Susan had a tragic twist to her. Very interesting storywise, but very sad.

I'll let someone else do the next question. It's almost 3 in the morning and now that I've finally finished my paper for tomorrow morning (er-technically today morning), I'm going to bed.

You guys just ran with other questions after that, but this actually was not the right answer. The answer is, I think, an empty blue-bottle (whatever that is...), right, Gray Cloak?

GrayCloak
10-01-2004, 04:47 PM
You're right faeriechylde, except it's a *dead* blue-bottle, which is actually a fly, so technically both yours' and Capsticks answeres were correct. Though yours' was more acurate. :D

*sticks out tongue at Capstick* :P

faeriechylde
10-01-2004, 05:16 PM
 I've got to admit that I had no idea that a blue-bottle was a fly, so my hat's off to Capsticks after all. Having read the books when I was very young, I automatically assumed it was actually a blue-colored bottle, and that by dead the author meant "empty." Afterwards when I read it again that's always the way I saw it just because of my first impression. Isn't that strange?

Okay, here's another question:

What animal goes crazy when the White Witch insists that Father Christmas can't have come to Narnia, causing the Witch to become angry and turn it to stone (along with its friends and family)?

Y. Fish
10-01-2004, 06:01 PM
The baby squirrel. (Heh heh, I remember being so excited that there was a dead bluebottle fly on the windowsill when I first read LWW. I'd just read The Borrowers and there were bluebottle flies in that, and I just thought that was the coolest name for a bug ever.)

So then, um... question, question, question. Oh! Okay, here's a question to which the answer is a running joke between my brother and I:

Behind what were Lasereen and Aravis hiding when they saw the Tisorc? (and you get extra brownie points, redeemable for brownies, if you answer the way my brother did :) )

Dragon
10-03-2004, 01:20 PM
I believe it was a sofa. How did your brother answer it?

Y. Fish
10-03-2004, 05:34 PM
Well, he answered it wrong when I was quizzing him with my Narnia Trivia book. So after that, he answered every question "a SOFA!" in his little Zukeenee-voice. Now, whenever I ask him a question that he doesn't know, he says, "a SOFA!"

... yeah not that funny if you weren't there, but trust me, it was hillarious at the time.

rosymole
10-06-2004, 07:14 PM
Oh, and the triv seems to have ground to a halt again, so again the herculean task of restarting i shall take upon myself,

Fill in the blanks - from memory if poss!

Taken from MN, when Jardis is rampaging around London:

"Not one stone of your city will be left. I will make it as Charn, as ______, as ______, as ________"

First correct answer wins a prize!

rosymole
10-12-2004, 01:57 PM

Any takers now? It's lonely in here :(

Dead Rain

but i don't remember what she said. man, and that's my fav. of the books! *sad Sigh*

Of course you can! Welcome aboard! The last question was
Taken from MN, when Jardis is rampaging around London:

"Not one stone of your city will be left. I will make it as Charn, as ______, as ______, as ________"

as no one else has the guts to answer this one it seems, i shall allow some minor cheating (not usual practice i assure you). ONce you've answered it correctly, you post the next question and on it goes form there - have fun, and play nice B)

Y. Fish
10-14-2004, 04:05 PM
*cheats*

"I will make it as Charn, as Felinda, as Sorolis, as Bramandin."

Cool names. Wonder where he came up with them.

So, next question: in which direction did Jill and Eustace face at the beginning of The Silver Chair to ask Aslan if they could go to Narnia?

Dead Rain
10-14-2004, 04:22 PM

It may, possibly, have been noticed than I do like a bit of the old triv, so again I shall be Hercules, or Heracles if you prefer, and attempt yet again the mighty task of trying to re-start the triv-ness, so here goes..(runs off to find a book)

What was the name of the cheif Black Dwarf in LB?- and no cheating now!

(if any n00bs want to join in - do, you might win a prize!!)

Y. Fish

Since I'm new around here, I don't know if its my place to interrupt here, but you see, I have a few bits of trivia that I've been asking all over the place. I've yet to find anyone who can correctly answer them, and I want that to change! So, I'm gonna ask them here.

In VDT after Lucy reads "The Story for Refreshment of the Spirit" in the Magician's Book, she tries to recall the story in her mind. She mentions four things that the story was about, before she realizes she can't remember. What are those four things? (in order)

rosymole
11-25-2004, 02:16 PM
In a Stable - i thank you greatly fore kickstarting the occassionally sticky triv!
That's a v good question, without looking at the book (which would be cheating and therefor wrong) all that springs to mind is something about a wood, or trees or something, one i do remember however is how Lucy wanted to carry on reading the story for ever and ever (something i can identify feeling as a child, esp where the LB was concerned!)

In a Stable
11-25-2004, 02:55 PM
Almost. You're getting warm. A tree is one of the things she mentioned. I'm sorry this one is so tricky, but it was one that really stood out to me.

rosymole
11-26-2004, 05:48 AM
Don't be sorry! It's good to have some new questions.
Out of interest, do you just find them your slef or use a triv book ,if there is such a thing?

In a Stable
11-26-2004, 12:45 PM
I've never seen any trivia books. I just read (and listen to) the Chronicles of Narnia ten times a year or so. I devour the books like a hungry animal, and each time I read I find something I never noticed before. That was one of the things I noticed this time around!

Dead Rain

htat's cool. must be fun to do that. do you have anyone that you quiz yourself with?

i'm almost to that part in VDT cause i'm reading it now for the first time. i've seen the movies though, but can't remember what the things were.

when i get to that part, may i tell everyone, or no?

Actually there's this one person online I sometimes quiz, and he tries to quiz me. And yeah, once you know it, go ahead and post it here. I have a feeling no one will be able to get it from memory.

12-21-2004, 06:14 PM
Aha, that is indeed a good question, becuase I would say Rhindon, (sorry Rhinds beat you to it lol!), but i think that in some versions of LWW published in the US the sword was called Ulfsbane, or something similar? anyone lese hear about that?

Dead Rain
12-21-2004, 08:53 PM

but next question.

what was the name of the lord from VDT who was thought to have died on Dragon's Island?

I would say Rhindon, (sorry Rhinds beat you to it lol!), but i think that in some versions of LWW published in the US the sword was called Ulfsbane, or something similar? anyone lese hear about that?

Interesting. In my early version of the book, the last sentence in the chapter "Peter's First Battle," Aslan says "Rise up, Sir Peter Fenris-Bane." and the same place in my newer book says "Rise up, Sir Peter Wolf's Bane." I don't remember seeing it call it Rhindon in either version I have. Where more precisely does it say the name, if you can remember? Now I am interested...

GrayCloak
12-22-2004, 12:14 AM
Peter mentions the name of his sword in PC when the children find their gifts from Father Christmas. He says something to the extent of 'Ah my old sword Rhindon with which Aslan knighted me'

ahhh, it was something like that; I don't have time to look it up at the moment.

Amanda
12-22-2004, 12:42 AM
Smile...Ah, the joy of like minded people!

When I crafted the question, I was thinking of Rhindon. Reference is the PC scene where Peter runs across the sword in the treasure chamber of the dilapidated Cair Paravel.

As for Fenris-bane/Wolfs-bane/Ulfsbane, it's essentially the same thing. In Norse folk-lore, Fenris is the wolf son of Loki. Fenris is bound with the dwarven forged chain Klepnir through trickery, and in the process bites off the hand of the god Tyr. Norse lore states that when Ragnarok (which is comparable to Armageddon in Christianity), anyway, at the end of the world Fenris break Klepnir and run around devouring everything and eventually slays Odin, the father of the Gods.

Anyhow, my point is that Fenris is a familiar term for wolf in many European cultures, but they probably changed it in the American version of the books since publisher seem to think (sometimes rightfully so) that Americans are completely oblivious to anything outside the States.

Fenris-bane, Ulfsbane, wolfsbane - I believe that these references refer to Peter, not his sword.

Oh, let's see... I know the first one:
The first person Eustace will see is someone he knows. Talk to him and he will give you help.

Prince Corin
01-01-2005, 03:03 PM
1. As soon as the boy Eustace sets foot in Narnia, he shall met an old and dear friend. He must greet that friend at once! If he does, you will both have good help.

2. You must journey out of Narnia to the north, till you come to the ruin city of the Ancient Giants.

3. You will find a writing on a stone in that ruin city, and you must do what the writing tells you.

4. You will know the Lost Prince if you find him, by this: That he will be the first person you have met in your travels who will ask you to do something in My Name. In the name of Aslan!

And no, I didn't cheat.

Q: What was the name of Cor's and Aravis's son, and what was significant about him?

Ram the Great.

Jadis, the White Witch was the daughter of whom?

Capstick
01-03-2005, 11:45 AM
I think it's in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and isn't it Mr. Beaver who makes a comment about Jadis being the daughter of Adam's first wife Lilith? However, this seems contradictory to the Magician's Nephew, in which Lewis says that her origins were from the world of Charn. Anyway, is that the answer you're looking for?

Amanda
01-03-2005, 01:10 PM
Mr. Beaver says that Jadis was a decendent of Lilith (you're right) and a giant. The Charn thing...Lilith's decendants probably stumbled into Charn in the same way that people stumble into Narnia.

And I made a mistake, I should have said decendant instead of daughter...good catch!

The bottle is made of diamonds. Is that what you were asking?

Prince Corin

It's made from the fire flowers in the mountains of Aslan I think. (Something like that.)

Capstick
01-04-2005, 11:47 AM
"[Father Christmas] gave her [Lucy] a little bottle of what looked like glass (but people said afterward that it was made of diamond)..."In this bottle," he said, "there is a cordial made of the juice of one of the fire-flowers that grow in the mountains of the sun..." -The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, chapter 10, pg 109 (in my edition).

So the bottle is made of diamond, but the cordial is made of fire-flowers; I think Milton will need to clarify exactly which answer he was looking for.

Close Dragon, but sadly no cigar for you- wouldn't that be really really crowded? (not to mention the bird droppings..)!
Milton and Dernhelm nailed it, so lots of cigars to you two, only smoke them if you're old enough tho!

Impatient little me...
Does anyone know the answer or part of it? Half of it is good enough. *pleads*

If no one knows, can someone ask another question? I would like to expand my Narnian knowledge (and avoid my math homework, lol)

*searches memory for a great deal of time*

Aravis's father was Kidrash Takaan, and, if memory serves (which it often doesn't) he was lord of the provice of Calavar. (Uh, I think that's spelled right) So, did I get it right!?!?!?

And just to keep the triva going:

Who were the four other people to live in the house with the Professor in LWW?

What were the names of the cat and calormene in LB who were plotting evil together? who were they using to carry out their plans(in the begining, at least)?

Dernhelm
02-19-2005, 11:37 AM
The Cat was Ginger; the Calormene _____ (I don't know).
And they were useing the Ape, named Shift.

Dead Rain

next question:

What is the name of the North-star of Narnia?

Edit: Hint(but no cheating): To help refresh your memories(but again no cheating), this was mentioned in LB.

DryadofLanternWaste
02-27-2005, 06:07 PM
DR: I know it what it is and that it was from LB, however I as you so eloquently stated "cheated" hence my answer will not follow here. Is there any chance that we might have another question because it does not seem as if anyone knows the answer to this one? *pleads*
