I was at a used book store yesterday, and I found a book called, Fifty Works of English Literature the World could do without, and one of the books was Silver Chair, I was so maaad!!! The Silver Chair is one of my more favorite of the books! The person who wrote that  : book is stupid. I didnt even read what he had said about S.C. Next thing hes going to be telling us not to read the entire Narnia series!! Where did he get off telling me what books to not read?!?! The only person alowed to do that is my mom!(that wasnt the only good book he had in there that 'should not be read' but you wouldnt be intrested in the others)

Oh, my gosh, that person sux. Well, his opinion sucks anyway...

In and of itself, The Silver Chair is one of the best books ever written, as it has an incredible plot-how Lewis develops the 4 signs of Aslan is amazing and extremely well done. I guess it would have to rank as my 4th favourite book in CoN, behind LB, VDT, and MN, but just barely, and this is more a testament to how great the other books are, because this is a fantastic story.

Over the year, Silver Chair has grown into my favorite of the entire series. It is the closest thing to an "adult" novel of the books. Character development, plot twists, and intricate themes make it a wonderful read. The "fireplace" scene where the Witch is trying to bewitch them all is one of the most subtle slams on materialistic rationalism in all literature.

If the author you referenced includes Silver Chair in his book, then I'd suggest his list is one book short...:D

I was half afraid that I was alone on my opinion....but that was probably the stupidest thing ever did!!...I like the S.C. best (well really I like them all the same but that one especially) because of the breaking of the chair....

WHAT!!!! OMG...are they stupid or what??? They just can't call SC like that!!! My fave character appears on it...I found boring the beginning of the book (in fact, it was the one I spent more time reading), but it is a great book. I really like it, and if that writer has something against CoN...he/she will see the NarniaFans!!! :D Ok...I exaggerated...but it's true!!! Or we wouldn't do anything???

First of all...anyone who thinks the world would be better without a book is not someone anyone should take seriously. *laughs at the irony* Okay, maybe his book is the exception... :D but seriously...

Books are people's thoughts or dreams put into print, while we may not agree with them or their views saying the world or even literature would be better without them is a bit harsh...yeah, some books are bad, but no books is that bad...LOL

For the record, I like The Silver Chair just fine, thank you and I thank God for it's existance...the series would have been poorer for not having it.

But yeah, while it isn't my favorite book in the series (The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe is...c'mon with a title like that how could I resist? LOL I love it *glomps the book*) it is a very strong book, and one of the better ones. So no. The Silver Chair is a very good book...both as a solid story and for what it has to say more subtly...

*goes off to reread the bewitching scene*

Ohhh, that's a shame. I wonder why even write a book like that? I mean, I might write one that lists my least favorite books, but that doesn't mean anyone'll be interested, or even concur. Huh.

And... *shrinks back* ...well, okay, honestly, SC has always been my least favorite of the series, but that doesn't mean I don't love it! I mean, it's Narnia! It has Puddleglum! I loved the others a trifle more, yes, but they were all utterly fantastic. Narnia wouldn't be the same missing ANY vital piece.

I'd have to agree with Dr. Cornelius. Sliver Chair *is* a Narnia book, therefore it's awesome. I liked the owls and Puddleglum a lot. But I'd have to say that it's my least favorite of the Narnia books.

Hmmm I dont see how any of them could be your 'least favorite'but thats your guys opinion, I am not here to make it for you! I think mainly I love them all equally, just that, that book made me need to like the silver chair better so it would be 'fair', cuz I am just weird like that, Now as to what was said 'books are peoples thoughts and dreams set down' I can understand that but there is one book that I have not discovered the plot to, all it is thourgh the book is this girl wining because her butt is too big, and she is afraid this guy doesnt like her because her butts to big and so I didnt see the point in that book, I dont think guys are worth it if they want a specific figure, take me as I am or leave me be! So yeah that was a bit of topic

I am still trying to think of an actor to do Puddleglum, besides Ben Stein as the voice.

I think Johnny Depp would be a great Puddleglum...

Hmmm, I think he's to showy to be puddleglum. Anyway, SC was my favorite as a kid! I think the others have, w/ multiple readings, pretty much caught up in the runnings, but SC is still a really great one.

Be nice now -- just because a person's favorite book is different from yours does not mean that person "sucks." Minimoose has a right to her opinion. I personally like all the books in the CON.

Not you, Reep. EIP said Minimoose sucked. No, I had no problem with what you said. You are fine. I thought EIP's comment was kind of uncalled for.

If I were to rank the Narnia books one to seven, SC would probably be number seven. The pace just seems slow in places. I mean, did we really need to see so much of Harfang? By the time we got to Underworld, it seemed almost anticlimatic. Of course, once Rillian is free, that's the best part of the book, and one of my favorite scenes in the series.

Rhyanidd

its been awhile since I read that one, but I dont remember it being slow, in fact I remember begging my mom to read more,

Inkspot I think that EIP was talking about the guy who I mentioned in the very first post, the one that said that the world could do without The Silver Chair, I dont think that she meant minimoose...

I think EIP was referring to the author of "Fifty Works of English Literature the World could do without."

I think the 'that person' is a dead giveaway. ;)

A lot of people didn't like SC because it was so different from the other books. Some people don't like the characters, either. I've talked with many-a-people about why they didn't like the book, and it's mostly because of a) they didn't like Puddleglum (because he's so pessimistic), b) they didn't like Jill (because she was so whiny), and c) because Aslan wasn't as present in this book as he is in others.
I can understand why people don't like it, but it is one of my personal favorites.

I wonder if the bible was on his list of books the world could do without. I read anarticle written by a woman who was blasting LWW (movie) She was livid about the fact that it had a thinly veiled christian theme.

What a sad, sad person. I don't understand people like that. I guess misery loves company, so they feel a need to ridicule what they just don't understand.

I'm the same exact way. I'm not Christian (although I was at one point in my life, but not anymore) but I still love the Narnia books. They do have a light Christian theme to them (although Lewis didn't want them read that way) but I still love them nonetheless.

i guess everyone interprets it differently, and maybe thats what Lewis wanted- to have evryone have their own narnia :o :p
